QUANTUM LEAP ended its season 2 fall finale with one heck of a shock: There might be a way for Ben (Raymond Lee) to come home.

Of course, the news comes at the messiest of times: Addison (Caitlin Bassett) and Hannah (Eliza Taylor)—AKA a woman Ben met in a leap and may be falling for—just “met,” formerly engaged duo Ben and Addison finally got back on decent footing and can work together on leaps, and, oh, yeah, Addison found a engagement ring that her now-boyfriend Tom (Peter Gadiot) was hiding.

On the bright side, the collision of everything allows Addison to take a very big step. “Finally Addison gets to make a big decision, right?” Bassett tells Give Me My Remote in the video below. “So much of the show has been [her having] to deal with what Ben decided…We couldn’t get him back. And then now it’s been three years and he’s [presumed] dead. She had to become a whole person that she wasn’t before. And now he’s back and we’re dealing with that.”

“[Addison] and Tom did the best that they could; [we saw them] be wildly mature adults about it,” she continues with a laugh. “Wildly mature. And now all of a sudden, something exciting is happening, but also, again, changing right as we right as we accepted where we were. Right as we’re okay with [there being] a Hannah—we can be friends, Hannah knows who I am, Addison and Hannah have like almost a little exchange—okay, this is where we are. We’re okay. This is good. [Then we discover] boom, something different.”

As the series ramps up for the final month of season 2, “the next five episodes are my favorite episodes that we’ve done, hands down,” Bassett previews. (She does also clarify she means outside of the “freakin’ cool” season 1 finale: “I got to be two Addisons. That was so fun.”) “This is my favorite run of the entire series, and it’s because, all of a sudden, Addison starts making decisions for Addison. ‘What are we going to do? I’m going to make a choice now. I’m going to figure this out. I’m going to move forward.’ And instead of just responding to what is happening to her, she starts driving her own ship.”

“It’s crazy how much that, even as an actor, I was like, ‘Oh, it’s different now,’” she continues. “And it affects every relationship around her, which is so much fun.”

As Addison is going through this transition, there are still leaps to contend with. On the Tuesday, January 30 episode, “Off the Cuff,” Ben and Addison get mixed up in a messy bounty hunter situation.

“What’s so fun about this show is that no matter what’s happening for Ben or Addison or Hannah or Ian or any of us, the show must go on,” Bassett acknowledges. “There is a leap to deal with. And it’s human beings whose lives need you to do your job. So there’s a constant balance in the show, which is, I think, what makes it fun…the characters having their own journey and then also being like, ‘But this person’s whole life is in the balance right now. That has to take precedence.’ Which is why it’s fun.”
