NBC Developing NEW AMSTERDAM Sequel
March 19, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
NBC is in early development of a NEW AMSTERDAM sequel, Give Me My Remote has confirmed.
In the potential new series, tentatively titled NEW AMSTERDAM: TOMORROW, “Luna Goodwin steps into her father’s role as Medical Director of New Amsterdam Hospital, 30 years after the events of the original series.” The possible new drama is being developed by NEW AMSTERDAM showrunner David Schulner, with NA vet Peter Horton set to direct if the series goes to pilot.
The possible series was set up during NEW AMSTERDAM’s series finale, which jumped ahead 30 years in the future to Luna working at the hospital. At the time, both Schulner and Horton told Give Me My Remote they were hoping to revisit the world of the series again.
“CRIMINAL MINDS was rebooted two years after it was canceled,” Schulner said at the time.
“We would love to have it rebooted; we’d love to try again,” Horton said. “It’s not up to us yet, but we’re you know, we’re trying; we’ll see. You never know.”
In the finale, Molly Griggs played the adult Luna, and Horton called her presence in the hour “a gift.” (It is TBD whether Griggs reprises the role if the show gets picked up to pilot.)
“We were really concerned about finding the right person that had the right look, had the right spirit, the right age, the right kind of everything come together,” he said. “And we were like looking at different tapes and suddenly this one popped up and David and I jumped on the phone, and went, ‘Wow. Did you see that?’ And so that was just our casting director David Caparelliotis. He’s just phenomenal. Done this over and over again for the last five years—found the perfect person.”
Deadline was first to report the show’s development.
