FBI: Missy Peregrym Previews Maggie’s Grief and Newfound Responsibility
March 29, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
Maggie’s (Missy Peregrym) life changed in the blink of an eye on the Tuesday, March 26 episode of FBI, as her friend, Jessica (Charlotte Sullivan), died…and left her young daughter, Ella, in Maggie’s care.
For Maggie, who had just started thinking about pursuing motherhood via IVF, she’s suddenly thrust into the position of being the sole provider for Ella on the Tuesday, April 2 episode, “Behind the Veil.”
“Obviously, this isn’t something that she was planning on doing…it was a huge surprise to kind of accidentally get custody of Ella through Jessica dying,” Peregrym tells Give Me My Remote. “She was considering wanting to be a mother at some point, and figuring out how she would even do that with having a baby herself. She doesn’t have a partner. Her job is really demanding. But it’s something that she’s wanted to do. So how does she bring those two worlds together?”
While she navigates that, Maggie is also still trying to contend with losing her friend. “I think it’s really painful; it’s really scary,” Peregrym says. “It’s so different when you’re the person who puts their life on the line. But when you lose somebody that’s close to you…life is so fragile and serious in a different way now, and I think it’s probably pretty gray for her at this point, in terms of understanding that part. And grief is a really tricky thing to move through, to also care for Ella while I’m also grieving—it’s confusing.”
And the first case Maggie has to tackle in the aftermath of Jessica’s death is a big one: A bomb goes off, gravely injuring many people, including a congresswoman and Isobel’s (Alana De La Garza) neighbor.
“I think it’s a really difficult switch, immediately, because her instincts are to sacrifice her life for the greater good,” Peregrym previews of the case’s high stakes.
Though Maggie may be facing uncertainty in her life, the storyline did allow for a really fun off-screen dynamic: Peregrym got to work with Sullivan again for a handful of episodes, after the duo spent six seasons together on ROOKIE BLUE.
“I was extremely excited that she said yes to doing this,” Peregrym gushes. “It was such a huge win for me to have a friend who I really love come and play this part—it brought me right back to ROOKIE BLUE days. I think she’s a fantastic actress. She’s just so professional and fun, and the energy that she brings to set is really important to me. It was so nice! I was so happy every time she was working. You know, bummed that it’s a shorter arc, of course, but I’ll take what I can get.”
