CHICAGO MED: Luke Mitchell on His ‘Really Special’ Promotion to Series Regular

Just days after it was revealed that Luke Mitchell has been promoted to be a series regular on CHICAGO MED, the actor acknowledges getting to stick around on the show “means a lot.”

“It feels really special,” Mitchell, who debuted as Dr. Mitch Ripley in the season 9 premiere, tells Give Me My Remote. (The series was also recently renewed for season 10.) “I’ve been lucky enough to work on a few different shows over the years, so I know what it’s like [to be a regular]. But I have to say that there is something particularly special about CHICAGO MED.”

For Mitchell, whose past TV work includes roles on THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, AGENTS OF SHIELD, BLINDSPOT, and BIG SKY, even getting the job was a whirlwind. “For me, the beginning of this was a very fast turnaround,” he explains. “Last year was a bit of a weird year with the strikes; I spent a lot of time back in Australia. And then just out of nowhere, I had an audition. Before I knew it, like within 48 hours, they were like, ‘We need you in Chicago.’ And then I was here and really just hitting the ground running.”

“It was such a big deal to just to be suddenly plucked from this weird hiatus year to going back to work on the other side of the world,” he continues. “Every single step of the way, I’ve just felt so welcomed and supported and encouraged.”

And the bump from recurring to series regular just makes it even sweeter. “I love all the people that I work with: the cast, the crew, the drivers, everyone,” Mitchell gushes. “The city has been really welcoming. It feels like a really special place.”

CHICAGO MED reruns will air Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC in April; the series returns with its final four episodes of the season in May. (The show is also available to stream on Peacock.)
