THE EQUALIZER, AMERICAN IDOL, and THE GREAT NORTH

“Legendary” – Dee asks McCall to help find her transgender friend when the teen goes missing. Meanwhile, Dante is surprised when Big Ben’s parole officer approaches him to chaperone his father for an out-of-state trip, on the CBS Original series THE EQUALIZER, Sunday, April 28 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

THE EQUALIZER: While it would be nice if every trans child could be accepted, it’s sadly realistic and plausible some would be as terrible as a handful of these adults. It’s absolutely horrifying, both in this fictional world and the real one, some would deem it okay to send kids to conversion camps.

I wonder how much Robyn’s talk with Dee will actually sink in. Dee’s ambition makes sense, but—forgetting Robyn’s fears for her daughter for a second—the point that she would have to follow all the rules and never stand up for things she believes in is really, really important. Will it make a difference?

It also feels like we got a lot of setup to potential mess to come: Fisk and Harry? Dante’s boss seeing the photo of him and Robyn? This trip with Dante and Big Ben? Uh oh…

AMERICAN IDOL: Oh, okay, the “year they were born” has made me feel absolutely ancient. I logically know there are young contestants, but being reminded they were born in the 2000s? Sigh.

McKenna Faith Breinholt’s take on “Iris” was the highlight of the night for me. Shania Twain was also a great mentor who seemed to actually give good feedback.

As for the eliminations? Yeah, it was a mistake that Kayko was eliminated. He wasn’t my top performer, but he should have been around well beyond Top 8.

THE GREAT NORTH: I know this is the wrong lesson, but being trapped inside for a few days sounds fun. Maybe not the losing your mind thing, but..an experience. (Okay, fine, maybe I wouldn’t need Beef being a fake captain and the trial after he was accused of eating the specialty snacks. But…the trial still seemed fun? And they all went crazy together.)
