Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

AMERICAN IDOL: Okay, first of all, in “Adele Night,” shouldn’t the first performances be, uh, Adele songs? It’s crazy we had to wait until the second hour. Adele is a hard artist to take on, and, again, was the theme of the freaking night, so those performances should have had the most impact on voting. Alas.

That being said, America keeps voting in the wrong people, which makes me less than confident about how this season is going to shake out.

THE SIMPSONS: TEAM MAGGIE FOR BEST SILENT BABY. She was robbed!!

Not to be this nerd (of course I’m this nerd), but this was an interesting flip of the “someone gets a secret stash of money and has to figure out how to spend it” trope that the show has done before. In the past, Homer won money from the lottery and had to spend it without tipping off Marge (because he lied about where he was when he bought the ticket)…in this case, Marge was just (fairly) annoyed with Homer. It’s valid she reached her breaking point and it’s even funnier she bought something absolutely ridiculous and frivolous versus something that even makes a lot of logical sense.

THE EQUALIZER: This sounds like a complaint, but it actually isn’t: It was an interestingly paced episode, because it didn’t really feel like there was a main storyline. It just felt like a look into a very bad day for everyone.

Obviously, the biggest emotional arc was Big Ben and Dante, and oh boy, what an absolute mess. Big Ben hasn’t been a great father to Dante, and now adding in the complications that there’s another son in the mix? That’s a gut-punch. And how/when Dante can really process this all is still very much in question due to Big Ben’s precarious health situation.

I do love that Robyn didn’t realize Miles was trying to woo her and it took Aunt Vi to see what was going on. But also thank you to Aunt Vi for making it clear what we can all see: Robyn has someone who can be a real partner in her life, who wants to be her partner in every possible way. Will she listen? Well, that’s still TBD.

THE GREAT NORTH: Beef and his mystery friend being basically Romeo and Juliet of ships? Incredible. So sad for them that it wasn’t going to work out, but absolutely fitting that’s why they fell apart.

And oh my God, Judy is bad at juggling dates. (Which is probably an overall positive statement to make.) I love that rather than it blowing up in her face, everyone was just dating everyone, so they were all fine with it. Good for all of them.
