CHICAGO MED Reveals Zola’s Professional Fate

[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Wednesday, May 1 episode of CHICAGO MED.]

CHICAGO MED is down a doctor: On the Wednesday, May 1 episode, it was revealed that Zola (Sophia Ali) had been fired from Gaffney in the aftermath of repeatedly crossing the line—including trying to orchestrate an organ donation from a patient who wasn’t actually brain dead.

A source confirms Ali—who joined the series in the second episode of season 9 in a recurring capacity—has exited the series. She appeared in six episodes of the medical drama. (MED, however, has occasionally welcomed past doctors back, so never say never about a potential return.)

Ahead of her introduction, co-showrunner Andrew Schneider previewed Zola would be a wild card for the department. “She’ll be a problem—or a headache—for Archer who runs the ED,” he told Give Me My Remote at the time. “She’s someone who tends to overstep.”
