“Condemned” – McCall races to help Dante and Big Ben (Danny Johnson) after they are ambushed by a group of suspicious attackers and a major family secret is revealed. Meanwhile at a party celebrating 50 Years of Hip-Hop, Harry helps Mel overcome her stage fright, on the CBS Original series THE EQUALIZER, Sunday, May 5 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs).

A reluctant Dante (Tory Kittles) accompanies his father, Big Ben (Danny Johnson), on an out-of-town trip on the Sunday, May 5 episode of THE EQUALIZER…and the duo is quickly ambushed.

“When it first happens, they are under an immense amount of fire and his first thought is to stay alive,” Kittles previews to Give Me My Remote. “How do we stay alive? And they have limited resources. They don’t have a lot of firepower. And it’s just the two of them and they’re under attack by eight men, a small unit. And so that is his first thing: How do we get out of here alive?”

Unfortunately, as they’re literally fighting for their lives, things get complex between the father and son. “As they are evading fire and evading capture, all of these other things start to unroll between him and his father on a personal level,” Kittles teases. “And his father reveals a family secret that just rocks Dante to the core, because his idea of who he thought his father was has just changed. It’s changed tremendously once he learns the secret.”

Of course, things didn’t exactly start off great for the duo before the trip started. “Every time Dante deals with his father is a struggle for him,” Kittles acknowledges. “He harbors so much resentment because of the relationship that he has with his father. His father has not only let him down most of his life, but now that’s even bled over into his father letting down his children. And Dante is very defensive when it comes to his father.”

“But even with that, Big Ben is still his father,” he continues. “And as much as Dante would like to not have anything to do with him, he just can’t not continue to try. And that’s the ultimate struggle for him. And in this particular episode, what’s interesting is that among many things, it’s both of their pasts that collides and comes back to haunt them when they’re ambushed by these suspicious attackers.”

While Dante is fighting for his life, there’s another battle he doesn’t know about occurring: His possible love interest, Robyn (Queen Latifah) is spending time with her ex, Miles (Stephen Bishop).

“I don’t think that’s something that is a deterrent to him,” Kittles says. “I think, in his mind, him and Robyn have an absolute connection. And I think the way they’ve worked together over the course of the last four seasons and how they built their relationship on trust and respect, he isn’t worried about anyone else. His major concern is simply with her, and how can they move forward, whether they’re ready for what could come next. But I think it requires a leap of faith from them both, and they both are gonna have to make big choices about their futures.”

“I think Dante and Robyn are both at a point in their relationship where it’s time to put up or shut up,” he continues. “With Dante’s truth serum confession, that’s been something that he has not forgotten about. There is no secret that she puts a smile on Dante’s face in a way that no woman ever has. And I think he knows that it’s time to make a move on that.”
