Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

CRIMINAL MINDS: EVOLUTION: Emily being forbidden from reaching out to Jill…what did you think she was going to do, David?! But oh my God, such a mess. David is clearly not going to handle this reunion with Jill well, and Jill…well, despite her initial “I’m breezy!” attitude is also impacted by all of this.

But, man, the case of the week was so messed up—the best case element of the revival and the first time it’s truly felt disturbing. I watched the episode very early in the morning and kept thinking about it; both how well they utilized the “twist” and how great the performances were. Like, yes, it was clear something was off, but I was thinking maybe one was gone—and, uh, buried—not THAT. As basic as it may sound, it’s very, very, very tricky to write/act/direct something like this, where tipping your hand too much blows the twist, but pretending everything is normal makes the revelation feel unearned and unbelievable.

I really want to rewatch to see those beats play out with the actual context of what was going on. (And, honestly, that is the fun of TV done well/right: Shows should give us something—enjoyable/interesting—on a rewatch. I love being able to watch things I enjoyed with a fresh perspective.) A great case. (And I feel weird every time I say that, yes.)

LOVE ISLAND USA: How is Rob the adult in the freaking room out of most of these men? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

But, also, what happened to Rob and Liv? They separated pre-Casa kind of, maybe, crushing on each other. We saw nothing, really, of them deciding that door was closed this go-round. And it’s not to say Rob should have saved her if he was genuinely insanely into Daniela, but he seemed to have real doubts about her given the Aaron of it all. (Which…he should. And she should feel embarrassed, too.)

And the Aaron of it all…eesh. It’s not helping matters Kaylor wants so desperately to forgive him that it feels like he doesn’t have to really reflect on any of his bad actions. He’s apologized, sure. But he also went wild in the Villa, after, like, minutes apart from Kaylor and then came back to tell Kaylor he loves her. Again, we’re only seeing edits, but the apology (and love confession) feels superficial and reactionary versus how he actually feels. To go back to the first point, Rob was very correct about Aaron needing to think about how Kaylor felt and how he would feel if he saw videos of Kaylor doing what he was doing. It’s…mess.

I cannot believe Serena and Kordell reunited. I want her to be happy. I do believe he’s sorry. But, yeah, after those Casa videos and her reaction when he returned with someone else, I’m shocked. (Anyone else get “Summer Lovin'” vibes from the groups talking about Serena and Kordell reuniting and closing themselves off?)

That being said: Kenny’s speech for JaNa?! I died. Please let them stay happy. We need one good couple.

(And I’ll miss Liv. The only thing I have hope for this season is that the girls’ friendship will remain.)
