CHICAGO P.D.: LaRoyce Hawkins Teases a Potential Love Interest for Atwater

While many of the CHICAGO P.D. characters have become entangled in complex romantic relationships, it’s been a while since Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) had an on-screen love interest.

But with season 12 around the corner, could things be changing? “I think it might be,” Hawkins teases to Give Me My Remote.

Naturally, if it happens, things won’t be entirely smooth. “It’s hard to say how long it’ll last, but I wouldn’t be surprised if within Atwater’s journey, as he’s intentionally envisioning [forward movement] about his career, if love just happens to find him,” Hawkins previews. “But I don’t think he’ll be looking for it.”

Romance may be in the air next season, with Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) potentially tying the knot. (The duo got engaged in season 11, but it’s still TBA when they’ll actually walk down the aisle.) 

If there is a wedding, “he’s gotta marry them; Atwater’s ordained,” Hawkins says quickly. “He deserves to be the one to have a little bit of fun. He probably wrote Ruzek’s vows. It’s going to be one of those [situations].”

One thing fans may have to wait for, though, is seeing Atwater’s family again. “From what I know, I’m not sure [when they come back],” Hawkins says. “You might not see Atwater’s dad, at least in the first half; he might pull up in the back half, but I don’t know either way.”

But even if it’s not apparent on-screen, Hawkins imagines Atwater’s father is there, being supportive, in the moments we’re not seeing Atwater. “[I’m] playing it like he’s doing his best, in the background.”
