About Last Night…BEAT SHAZAM, AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, THE QUIZ WITH BALLS, and More

Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!BEAT SHAZAM: Oh my goodness, I think the worst final song outcome is for the person playing to get it wrong and the partner who stepped aside to know the title. I feel terrible for Jessi and Milan; I’d be thinking about that final song forever.

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Okay, doing ballet on glass bottles surrounded by fire may actually be the most nervous I’ve been while watching this show, ever. My goodness!!! Ashlee Montague really is incredible.

I am a bit surprised Sky Elements didn’t get the Golden Buzzer, because it felt like they really elevated their act, but Airfootworks were good. I cannot believe the trouble that Simon Cowell almost caused by trying to push the buzzer. (To be a fly on the wall in the control room/wherever the EPs were situated…)

THE QUIZ WITH BALLS: The first question being a BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 question?! Please, I would have done so well. Glad the Lees family got it right.

But, importantly, the Lees family got $75k and a perfect game?! Truly incredible. It’s also bonkers that Jason was basically coasting on vibes for the final thing—how was “carpal” not the first thing he went to?! Did he not know carpal tunnel syndrome?! But he guessed right and won the family $100,000, so I guess it worked out.

HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: I’m guessing this is going to be noted a lot, but it’s incredible how many conversations the characters are having that are relevant and could be had in 2024.  (In “A Shot in the Dark,” it was the conversation about affirmative action and how no selections are truly sans any bias—the Oscars comparison was brilliant.)

This Chris storyline is so difficult (and I mean that in a positive way) to watch. I didn’t realize until I started the show that the first season was only nine episodes, so I’m guessing this will be a throughline for at least the rest of the first year. (I had no clue when Lee Tergesen first popped up that he’d be in more than that one episode.) Also, hello Edie Falco?!

Such a great moment of Frank going to Bayliss so they can do the arrest together. He’s still marching to the beat of his own drum, at points, but Frank is coming around to the idea of a team/partnership. (Maybe.)

I thought Munch pitching a double date was going to be the most hilarious moment of the episode for me, but then he sang “Mack the Knife” at karaoke…oh, I miss him so much.
