9-1-1, DOCTOR ODYSSEY, GREY'S ANATOMY

DOCTOR ODYSSEY – “Pilot” – Max Bankman is The Odyssey’s new onboard doctor, where the staff works hard and plays harder. It’s all-hands-on-deck as he gets acquainted with Capt. Massey and his medical team, Avery and Tristan, while treating crises miles from shore. THURSDAY, SEPT. 26 (9:00-10:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. Disney/Tina Thorpe)
PHILLIPA SOO, JOSHUA JACKSON

Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

9-1-1: Dennis is requesting Athena to transport him? Oh, that’s evil/vile. (And other words I probably shouldn’t type out.) And now they’re trapped on a plane that’s in distress? After she already saved him? As usual, Athena deserves the biggest break in the world. (Where no disasters can happen, please and thanks.)

But welcome to the bee-nado!! I’m not sure if anything on this show this year will make me laugh as hard as I did while watching Eddie running from those freaking bees. Such a hilarious and light moment in the middle of all the mayhem. (And also brilliant, to be fair.)

Not to blame a kid, but WHY WOULD YOU SMACK A BEE?! Especially if you have an allergy? She’s so lucky her panic didn’t kill her mother. (I am actually serious when I say I wonder how many people that EpiPen tip will save. I had no clue there was a second dose of the medicine if you could crack the device open.)

(And LOL to Bobby being an advisor on a firefighting show and trying to give help on things like dialogue…and getting put in his place.)

BIG BROTHER: Yeah, I think I’m done with the show for the season. Makensy only thought to talk to Leah after she backdoored her? Everyone is playing this game so freaking dumb.

DOCTOR ODYSSEY: I truly wanted this show to be more fun. There were flashes of it (the double-meaning comments about the start, the meta “Is every week a theme?” and even the dancing on the beach), but it didn’t quite come out enough for me.

The cast is strong. The premise is interesting. The aforementioned theme weeks intrigue me. But Thursdays are also the toughest night of the week for me to add a show on (I already have nine shows on this night alone), so if episode 2 doesn’t grab me, this may end up being a “catch up on the weekend” show.

CRIME SCENE KITCHEN: Okay, having an actual COP could make things interesting.

I’m glad they’re upping the game since contestants can (and should) have watched two seasons of the show to prepare for this. It’s fascinating the contestants made so many different dessert possibilities. Either they’re very bad at this or the clues were that much harder.

GREY’S ANATOMY: In hindsight, of course the Bailey slap to Catherine was a dream…but it would have been gratifying if it was real.

Chandra Wilson was the episode’s MVP, though, dream or not. Bailey’s face when she recognized Sydney’s voice?! Incredible. I do love that Sydney hasn’t really changed…and the interns are still as skeptical of her/wanting Bailey back. The more things change…

Catherine and Meredith’s reluctant—and quasi-forced—alliance could be interesting. It won’t end well, to be clear; Meredith having to keep this from Richard and Jackson is going to be miserable for her and they’ll be furious, even if they understand. But I’m at least intrigued to see what the show does with this. (And it was a good/easy way for everyone to get their jobs back, too.)
