THE VOICE: Gwen Stefani Uses Her Coach Replay Button on a Teen Crooner

Gwen Stefani utilized her Coach Replay button on the Monday, October 7 episode of THE VOICE.

Prior to auditioning, 14-year-old Jaylen Dunham expressed his hope of making the show, especially given where he was in his life. “Just this past year, my voice started changing, so I’d love to work with a coach,” he explained.

But after performing “Listen” from DREAMGIRLS, no one turned their chair for Dunham. However, when the coaches saw who was actually singing, they were visibly shocked.

“Are you kidding me? I need a hug from you,” Stefani said. “They switched out a person, right? Was that you singing?”

“Your voice is different,” Snoop Dogg said, noting he thought Duhman was a woman performing during the audition.

Stefani, however, acknowledged it seemed like Dunham struggled with the song as he got more and more worried they weren’t going to press their button. And with this newfound information, she made a decision. “We have this new thing on THE VOICE,” she told him. “Basically, if [I’m] like, ‘Dang, I should have pressed my button but didn’t press my button, you can press your button.'” And then Stefani pressed her Coach Replay button.

“I had to use my Coach Replay button for Jaylen,” Stefani said after filming the audition. “In that moment, I was like, ‘Should I use it, should I use it?’ I was like, yes, you have that feeling right now. You have that regretful feeling. That’s what it’s for.”
