FBI: INTERNATIONAL’s Supervisory Special Agent Wesley “Wes” Mitchell (Jesse Lee Soffer) has his hands full when viewers meet him in the Tuesday, October 15 season premiere.

“In the first episode, he’s following a robbery crew, working with his partner, Mike Brooks, and they get into a gunfight, and Mike gets shot,” Soffer previews to Give Me My Remote. “The offenders flee to Budapest, and Wes is a man on fire and just wants to bring these guys to justice. He flies to Budapest, and he enlists the help of his old trainee, Cameron Vo.”

“When she got out of West Point and got into the FBI, Wes was her training officer,” he continues. “So there’s a relationship there. And he gets the Fly Team to help him bring these guys down, and then he has some choices to make because they’re in need of leadership.”

That history with Vo (Vinessa Vidotto) is a double-edged sword for Wes, though, initially. “He’s definitely apprehensive, because he knows that he was really hard on her—that’s just how he was as a training officer,” Soffer acknowledges. “He was an LA police officer first. So he’s seen some s—-, so to speak. And he’s like, ‘Alright, you want to do this job, I’m gonna put you through the wringer so you’re ready. He knows that she was not a fan, and he’s uncertain of how it’s all going to work out.”

“But he soon finds out that Vo appreciates it now and respects how hard he was on her because he gave her the tools [for the job],” he continues. “And that’s a nice little full-circle, mini backstory arc for the two of them that sets them up to have some nice partnership and a nice dynamic going forward.”

Things might not be as smooth with other team members. Normally, the Fly Team has to adjust to the local governing rules and coordinate with the law enforcement in each country, while being more restricted than they might be back in the U.S. Wes, however, might play by different rules.

“I think he’s not really adjusting to it,” Soffer says with a laugh. ”I think he’s just kind of going, ‘I don’t need to adjust to this. I’m just going to keep doing what I want to do.’ And then Smitty is the one who has to adjust to it…he just ends up going, ‘We’ll get in trouble with this, but so what?’ And then she’s the one chasing him around asking, ‘What are you thinking?’”
