THE SIMPSONS, THE EQUALIZER, and BOB'S BURGERS

“The Lost Ones” – McCall races to rescue two siblings who run into trouble after stealing a grocery truck carrying firearms. Meanwhile, Harry and Delilah help Mel through her trauma in the aftermath of her kidnapping, on the fifth season premiere of the CBS Original series THE EQUALIZER, Sunday, Oct. 20 (9:30-10:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). The series will move to its regular time period time on Sunday, Nov. 3 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT). Pictured: Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall. Photo: Michael Greenberg/CBS ©2024 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

THE SIMPSONS: It was an interesting narrative choice to have Lisa be the center focus of the episode, with really minimal attention on the other members of the family. (But LOL to her falling in with artists—some of whom are well-known—who were just scammers.) This definitely felt like an episode I might appreciate more on a second watch when I am less focused on the obvious things and can appreciate some of the subtleties and (presumably) inside jokes.

THE EQUALIZER: I miss our team so much, but I absolutely get why things aren’t perfectly back as we want them yet. We kind of need to feel the pain, like Robyn has been, to make the (presumable) reunion actually impact us more. But…I miss them. I want them back, please and thank you. (And hahaha to Harry playing matchmaker and prompting Dante and Robyn to call each other.)

As much as it hurt, I loved the beat of Robyn having her breakdown at home as she washed her hands. We know she’s a badass. We know she’s a superhero. We also know she’s isolated in a way she hasn’t been in a while, missing her team, and just went through a serious trauma. Those powerful moments of her kicking butt mean so much more when we are granted the privilege of seeing her humanity, the moments when it’s clear this is taking a toll on her.

Also, my God, Mel. I just want to give her a (very careful) hug.

(Okay, and I laughed out loud at Robyn bribing her way into an impound with a sandwich.)

BOB’S BURGERS: Oh my God, the animation when Bob found out he used a dead woman’s shampoo was incredible. The astonished expression was great. And poor Teddy really was trying to be there for Kathleen. I’m glad they made it.
