FBI: MOST WANTED Post-Mortem: Roxy Sternberg on the Fallout From Remy’s Warning to Barnes
November 12, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Tuesday, November 12 episode of FBI: MOST WANTED.]
FBI: MOST WANTED’s Barnes (Roxy Sternberg) returned to the Fugitive Task Force on the Tuesday, November 12 episode of the CBS drama…and immediately found herself in hot water.
After Remy (Dylan McDermott) made it clear he wanted Barnes to pass off the call center case to another part of the FBI—even though Barnes was the one who received the scam call that she discovered was actually a hostage situation—Barnes opted to continue investigating.
Though they were able to take down the call center ring (and save most of the innocent victims who were being forced to work), Remy was livid Barnes went against his orders.
“Just because something feels personal doesn’t mean you get to drag the entire team into it,” he told her. “Especially without me knowing it.”
Barnes attempted to defend herself, pointing out how Remy had utilized the team for his own personal hunches, too, but Remy reiterated he was the boss.
“I like you Barnes; I really do,” he told her. “But this is not the first time we locked horns so I’m going to keep it real for you: You pull a stunt like that again, you’re off the team.”
“I think that took me by surprise,” Sternberg tells Give Me My Remote in character. “And he was pretty brutal about it all. And I think that warning was a real warning. There are sometimes fake warnings, where they’re kind of calling our bluff. That was a real warning. And I think it will make her, potentially, a little bit more apprehensive going forward.”
“She’s still obviously going to be a great agent, but I think she’ll have to double think, triple think, quadruple think before she moves forward,” she continues. “It is her livelihood is at risk. But, ultimately, these children’s lives were at risk and so I think she did the right thing. There’s no doubt about that. But I think she will just be a little bit more cautious going forward.”
Despite the tension in the hour, Remy and Barnes will be in a better spot moving forward. “[It’s] water under the bridge, business as usual,” Sternberg says of how they’re interacting in what she’s filmed since. “We’ve had wonderful light moments together, and I think that’s how it should be. You know, note taken, I will respect you going forward. Not that I was doing it out of disrespect at all, and I was right to have done it. But I respect that you’re my boss, and I will follow through. And I will try to stay in line—unless something like this happens again. And then I’m afraid it is going to cost me my job. If you see something, say something.”
After the professional reprimand, Barnes decided to open up to Hana (Keisha Castle-Hughes) and confessed she wasn’t doing as great with her fractured family as she had been trying to portray. “We’ve been working six years together, and I think this is the first time we’ve had this intimate moment,” Sternberg notes. “And I think that we have taken [that dynamic] into the next episodes, whether it’s an undertone or whether [it’s more overt like] in the episode that we’re shooting right now, she actually tells me that things aren’t great with her partner. [The closeness has] definitely carried on through to the next episodes that we’ve shot, which is special. I like those kinds of personal relationships. It shouldn’t just be business when you’re working with someone in these close proximities for such a long period of time, on-screen and off-screen. These agents are on the hunt together, traveling always, in the job together. You guys will become each other’s family.”
And how will Barnes be helping Hana in an upcoming episode? “She shares with me some more stuff,” Sternberg previews. “The more you open up, the closer it allows our relationship to blossom and for us to be more honest and more open, and therefore more at home with one another. She’s struggling right now in her relationship, and she shares that with me because I’ve shared some stuff with her. It’s a give and take.”
