THE ROOKIE: Alexi Hawley Teases a Return of Banter, Positivity for Chenford in Season 7

After an unexpected breakup in season 6—and a beautiful moment of support in the finale—THE ROOKIE is embracing the lighter side of Tim (Eric Winter) and Lucy’s (Melissa O’Neil) dynamic in season 7.

“We came into this season really wanting to sort of lean back into positivity, in our heads, with their relationship,” THE ROOKIE showrunner Alexi Hawley tells Give Me My Remote. “And [show] that there was a lot of work that had been done in the aftermath of the breakup. [It’s] coming in and feeling like, ‘What is the next stage of whatever their relationship is going to be?'”

And with a lot on the duo’s plate (professionally) when season 7 kicks off, Lucy and Tim up the stakes with an unconventional (and yet totally plausible) side bet. “It felt like, ultimately, [that] getting them in a position to have a competition, to get back to that sort of banter, or chemistry world was really the goal,” Hawley teases of the ongoing rivalry. “I think we really nailed it.”
