Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

DEAL OR NO DEAL ISLAND: I’m torn on so many contestants being former reality TV champs. (Also very bizarre they’re all from CBS shows; I know NBC/U doesn’t have the same library, but still.) It’s one thing when one person is competing for life-changing money and another is competing for the title and another big payout.

On the other hand, the SURVIVOR vets played the game best in the premiere. Luke trying to help the group absolutely destroyed his game and led to his exit from the show. Pulling the dollar case was extremely bad luck, but he had multiple times when the odds were in his favor to take the deal. And yet.

Meanwhile, the banker is a woman? Ohhh. (My early theory, having only seen the premiere: The banker is Jordan, the season 1 winner.)

DOC: I think the in media res openings are overplayed at this point, but it was an interesting pilot. I don’t know if I love the decision to have a separate medical case on top of the medical emergency the show is centered around; Amy’s case was interesting enough that it felt like the very earliest of moments could have gotten more time to breathe. I do kind of wish we didn’t know how much Amy doesn’t know, but we’ll see if that pays off down the road.

THE IRRATIONAL: Considering how much the show is centered around Alec, an absolutely gutsy decision to take him out of things (largely) for much of this episode. But oh my God, did I love what they did. (Also: A trauma-induced appendicitis sounds like a freaking nightmare.)

But Rose and Marisa. Oh, my heart. I loved seeing them work together. I loved seeing Marisa open up to Rose about her previous pregnancy (and I would have never stepped foot in another forest after that if I was Marisa, but this is why she is a badass and I am not) and how their dynamic deepened.

It felt so important to have that experience together. As creator Arika Lisanne Mittman pointed out, this was also, largely, them not talking about Alec. While he will always be an important part of whatever dynamic they have, they shouldn’t be the focus; they can/should have their own thing outside of him. And for as traumatic as this might have been for Marisa, the experience of the two of them being isolated together also meant there was nowhere to really escape from each other. I truly cannot wait to see what comes next for them.

(And, uh, how long until the bio son shows up?)

THE ROOKIE: I’m so, so, so glad to have this show back. (And, hey, another mini-ROOKIE: FEDS crossover!)

Logically, it makes sense to only minimally deal with the Blair of it all, but I do wish they were going deeper than someone having a crush on Angela. It makes sense, like I said. I get it’s light. And it’s also such a violation, that if we (and Wesley) found out something horrific via those tapes, it would be awful. But definitely not the expectation I had for where they would it take it.

Really loving the Chenford dynamic so far, though. While, obviously, I loved their romantic relationship (and can’t wait for that to resume), seeing them be fun together, banter, and be competing TOs is the next best thing.

(I miss Aaron, and I truly hope we do see him at some point soon.)
