Emmit Smith is “Dancing with the Stars” Champ
November 16, 2006 by Kath Skerry
Last year I was really into Dancing with the Stars, but this year my obsession with So You Think You Can Dance completely ruined the celeb two-step show for me. Sorry, but these people aren’t really great dancers, and I couldn’t watch them struggle through it all. I guess one dance show a season is enough for me.
That being said, I know many of you were really into Dancing with the Stars this season. So by now you may have heard that last night, former NFL great Emmitt Smith was named the DwTS champion. Smith’s slick moves beat out Mario Lopez’s more polished style. It was close right up until the end, with the two men and their partners receiving identical scores on the last night of voting. But in the end it was Emmitt who walked danced away victorious.
But there is a little bit of controversy brewing this morning. Some are speculating that show was just a wee bit fixed. Lopez has been the subject of criticism after it was announced that maybe he wasn’t a true amateur dancer after all, and had been taking lessons for years. Lopez claims that to be rubbish and said that he did indeed take dance classes, but he was around 10 years old at the time and his mother forced him into it. But that’s not the only rumblings we are hearing. Lopez informed the producer’s of the show that due to other commitments he would not be participating in the Dancing with the Stars Tour that will be kicking off in the near future. Could they really have a tour without the winner? It’s a little suspect.
Speaking of the Dancing with the Stars Tour, it seems that contestants from other seasons will be participating as well. Emmitt Smith’s dance partner Cheryl Burke will be cha cha cha’ing with this year’s champ and last year’s winner, Drew Lachey. Now seeing Drew Lachey shimmy again is something I could get behind. Man…that Paso Doble to Thriller..wow!

I was not too happy with the results. But first, yeaaaa, *raises hand* I spoiled the outcome for you GMMR. Sorry. hehe.
I don’t think Mr. Smith deserved to win even though I adore his partner. Oh well.
I don’t think this deserves to be a show in the first place. The ratings soar on Dancing with D-List Celebrities, but yet smart shows get canned left and right (Arrested Development, Sons & Daughters). I don’t understand America.
Emmitt Smith and Cheryl definitely deserved to win DWTS. Marion Lopez and Karina Smirnoff also deserved to win. I think it was a dead heat, but someone had to win and I am not upset that it was Emmitt and Cheryl although I was rooting for Mario and Karina.
