MY GENERATION Creator Noah Hawley: It’s Important the Audience Feels Like They’re Watching Something Emotionally Real

September 23, 2010 by

MY GENERATION premieres tonight at 8 on ABC and it’s one of my favorite new shows. Unfortunately, it is also in an incredibly difficult time slot opposite several other series I love.

Still, if you can DVR MY GENERATION, or watch it on ABC.com tomorrow, I think you should give it a shot.

The drama is shot documentary style, initially following nine seniors at a Texas high school and then checking back in with them 10 years later.

When I caught up with MY GENERATION creator Noah Hawley at the Paley Center’s Fall TV Preview Party, he told me it was important to him that the audience feels like they’re watching something emotionally real — and that Twitter is helping him achieve that.

Indeed, Hawley is active on Twitter and frequently updated his feed during the filming of the pilot. His Twitter followers were privy to things like the first cast dinner, behind the scenes pictures, etc.

To hear from Hawley on how the social media tool is influencing him, plus more on MY GENERATION and its characters, take a look…

If you can swing it, please tune into ABC tonight at 8 P.M. to see the series premiere of MY GENERATION!

This show was phenomenal. I’m sad its in such a brutal timeslot, and probably won’t last. ABC should move it. Too bad the show isn’t on CBS, which dominates.
