NBC’s “Thank God You’re Here” Online Now

April 5, 2007 by

NBC’s new improv show Thank God You’re Here will be premiering next Monday, April 9th, but NBC.com has a sneak peek at the first episode online now. I watched it last night and got a big kick out of it.

The premise: Four actors are put in costume and they walk through a door into…well they just don’t know. A completely improvised scene commences and the actors have to just got with it.

In the premiere episode Wayne Knight (Seinfeld), Bryan Cranston (Malcolm in the Middle), Jennifer Coolidge (Best in Show) and Joel McHale (Talk Soup) try their best to just make it through the scene without cracking up. They do it, and do it well…I never could.

You guys should really check out this show. If you were a fan of Whose Line is it Anway? (and who wasn’t) I bet you’ll find yourself laughing at loud at Thank God You’re Here.

Upcoming guest improvers include Angela Kinsey (The Office), Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), Tom Arnold (The Damn Sports Show), Fran Drescher (The Nanny), Ana Gasteyer (SNL), Tom Green (The Tom Green Show), Mo’Nique (Moesha), Paul Rodriguez (comedian), George Takei (Star Wars), Fred Willard (Best in Show), and more.

    “George Takei (Star Wars)”

I’m no Trekkie by any means but…George was on Star TREK(you know, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy,) not Star WARS.

Hehe. Kath, I’ll bet there are Trekkies out there lining up with wet noodles for you!

They bumped up the season finale of Friday Night Lights for this, so I’m not to happy about it.

I’ll make you a deal, NBC. Renew FNL, and I’ll give the improv show a chance.

Bryan Cranston was definitely the best of the bunch. He and Joel McHale are my favorite actors of the four. I don’t really know what’s up with the host — he sucked all the comedy out of the show. Dave Foley, the judge and most awesomist host of Celebrity Poker Showdown, was funny but it was weird to seem him critique the actors. It’s hard to criticize the actors like that. I’d probably give this show a 6.75/10. It’s no “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”.
