About Last Night…HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, GOSSIP GIRL, HART OF DIXIE and More
November 15, 2011 by Marisa Roffman
I’m going to be completely honest — Monday TV turned me into a teary mess. Between HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and 20/20, I kept getting way too emotional about what was on my television screen. (Yes, tears for entirely different reasons. But sometimes you can’t help what makes you emotional!)
So let’s talk about last night’s television…
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, how you hurt my soul. I think I mean that in a good way, but I’m not entirely sure yet. After Barney and Robin slept together (which, despite how last week’s episode ended, I still didn’t think they’d take it that far), they decided to break up with their respective significant others to be together…only Robin doesn’t go through it. (Kevin remains the Worst. Therapist. Ever. Seriously. He knew her issues as her therapist and it felt like he used that to his advantage.) As if that wasn’t sad enough, it was right after we got a “soulmate” montage of Barney’s memories of his relationship with Robin (AMAZINGLY done, HIMYM) and then post-heartbreak, Barney frantically cleared the rose petals off Robin’s bed and blew out the candles he had lit for their special night. Why are you crushing my heart, HIMYM? However, with Barney and Nora now broken up, what does that mean for his wedding day? (I’m not going to even touch the ridiculously stupid B-plot of Ted and Marshall getting high before the concert.)
Not entirely sure how I feel about last night’s episode of GOSSIP GIRL. The series has been incredibly enjoyable for me this year, but last night felt a little off. While it’s understandable Blair might be experiencing some doubts about her path now that she found out Chuck has changed (even if she doubted it was for real) and Louis’ duplicity, how was anything she did last night “proof” that she’s over Chuck? And Dan blowing off his book tour because only 10 people showed up? If it’s not getting buzz, make people pay attention — you don’t just give up!
HART OF DIXIE keeps switching partners and getting me entirely invested in some of these couples, which I suppose is good for them. I’m still liking Lavon and Lemon together, and I’m truly torn about who Zoe should be with. Most days I prefer her with George, but Wade’s heartbroken look at the end hurt my heart a little. (Of course, we’re not even halfway through the show’s first season, so it’s possible/probable she’ll get her chance with both of them before the series eventually concludes.)
I don’t normally talk about news programs here, but I hope some of you had the chance to tune into last night’s 20/20 special on Gabby and Mark. The progress Congresswoman Gabby Giffords has gone through since she was shot earlier this year (and was pronounced dead by the media) is remarkable and quite frankly, inspiring.
Still behind on TERRA NOVA and HOUSE and I don’t find that I miss them all that much. Did any of you watch?
What made an impact on you last night?

Haven’t watched HIMYM yet but there were some strong reactions on Twitter about it! (I’ll revisit this post once I’ve seen it!)
I am definitely Team Wade on Hart of Dixie and prefer Lemon and Lavon (sorry George!) but lucky, lucky Zoe, eh?! That vet was nice no the eyes too!!
