About Last Night…GOSSIP GIRL, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, CASTLE, and More

Monday TV was crazy!

Are you as overwhelmed as I am trying to process everything? Let’s chat about what went down last night…

As much as touching upon the ill-fated Robin-Ted relationship makes me stabby (seriously, if we know they don’t end up together, playing the will they/won’t they game is nothing but frustrating), I thought last night’s episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was one of the strongest of the season. Of course Marshall and Lily are betting on their friends. Why wouldn’t they be? (I was a bit shocked that Lily was the one who bet Robin and Ted wouldn’t end up together — I figured she might have been the one holding on the romantic hope for that.) I’m glad Ted and Barney finally discussed some of what has gone on recently with Robin, and Marshall telling Robin she should probably move out was just perfect. Good for him.

I’m so glad Blair was able to talk Chuck out of sabotaging Dan’s career on GOSSIP GIRL. However, I still wish Dan hadn’t sent the video in to Gossip Girl, because quite frankly, if all is as it seems, that makes the inevitable breakup too simple. Now that CeCe is dead and Charlie has been exposed as a fraud, here’s hoping Lily actually gets a storyline!

THE VOICE didn’t have any contestants that completely blew me away, but the talent level was super strong. I’m surprised so many good singers didn’t get picked, and I wonder if the show will repeat what it did last year, in terms of the judges being short on team members and contestants getting a second chance.

HART OF DIXIE was about a snow day, but it really should have been titled “Lavon Hayes and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” Not only did his visiting parents drop the bombshell that they were breaking up just one month shy of their 40th wedding anniversary, but he also found out Lemon was eloping with George. Luckily for him, bad days pass, so his parents did reunite and George and Lemon decided against eloping. How adorable was Wade throughout the episode? That is the Wade I want to have on my screen — the one who owns up to his mistake with Zoe and helps Lavon get his parents back together. (Zoe’s reaction to being cut off from the internet was hysterical, and slightly less insane than I would have been if our situations were reversed.)

Hey look, CASTLE got their own Diana Fowley! (If you don’t know what that means a) why have you not watched X-FILES?! and b) it’s short for “never before mentioned ex who was vital to your past, but turns out to be a bad baddie.”) I heard from a lot of people who were disappointed by various aspects of last night’s hour, but the biggest disappointment for me was that the writers made Sophia bad. Why was that needed? Once again, someone from Castle’s past was bad. Wouldn’t it have been more dramatic if she was good? She didn’t seem like a terrible woman (minus her last scenes), she seemed pretty badass, and while I’m not necessarily saying, “Yes, please, throw more obstacles between Castle and Beckett,” you’d think it would have done more to possibly push their relationship forward if Sophia was good, and Beckett still managed to realize on her own that what she shares with Castle is special. I actually really enjoyed the first 50-ish minutes of the episode, but I wish it had been resolved differently. (However, Esposito calling Castle “writer boy” was amazing. He and Ryan were sorely underused in this episode.)

Oh, SMASH, how awkward. Now that Kevin is gone from HIMYM, Ellis might be my least favorite character on television. He is manipulative, unlikeable and almost a cartoon villain at this point. I wish right after Ivy getting the role the spotlight could have been on her for an episode or two, but instead, we followed Karen home. So…there’s that. ETA – How crazy was Monday TV? I completely forgot to write about ALCATRAZ! As creepy as the promos seemed, I was a bit underwhelmed by the actual case. Right now, I’m really intrigued by Lucy and what the heck is going on with her, because I feel like they can’t waste Parminder Nagra in a present-day coma for much longer.
