34th Annual People’s Choice Award Nominees (TV)

November 9, 2007 by

The nominees have been announced for the 34th annual People’s Choice Awards. Take a look at the list and just guess what network the awards show is on? My favorites are in red (and picking a favorite in some of these categories was painful). I had to add a few that were egregiously “missing” from each category.

  • Favorite TV Drama: “CSI,” “House,” “Law and Order: SVU” [Missing: Friday Night Lights, Grey’s Anatomy]
  • Favorite TV Comedy: “The King of Queens,” “My Name is Earl,” “Two and a Half Men” [Missing: 30 Rock, The Office, Ugly Betty]
  • Favorite Animated TV Comedy: “Family Guy,” “King of the Hill,” “The Simpsons”
  • Favorite Sci-Fi Show: “Battlestar Galactica,” “Doctor Who,” “Stargate Atlantis”
  • Favorite Competition/Reality Show: “American Idol,” “Dancing with the Stars,” “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” [Missing: So You Think You Can Dance, The Amazing Race]
  • Favorite Game Show: “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” “Deal or No Deal,” “Jeopardy”
  • Favorite Female TV Star: Sally Field (“Brothers & Sisters”), Katherine Heigl (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Jennifer Love Hewitt (“Ghost Whisperer”) [Missing: Hayden Panetiterre, Alyson Hannigan, Kate Walsh, Chandra Wilson, Jenna Fischer, Tine Fey, Angela Kinsey, Connie Britton, America Ferrera]
  • Favorite Male TV Star: Patrick Dempsey (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Charlie Sheen (“Two and a Half Men”), Kiefer Sutherland (“24”) [Missing: Steve Carell, Alec Baldwin, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, T.R. Knight, Kyle Chandler, Wentworth Miller, Hugh Laurie]
  • Favorite Scene Stealing Star: Richard Belzer from “Law & Order: SVU,” Neil Patrick Harris from “How I Met Your Mother,” Chandra Wilson from “Grey’s Anatomy” [Missing: Rainn Wilson, Michael Urie, Jack McBrayer, Rex Lee, Jesse Plemmons]
  • Favorite New TV Comedy: Aliens in America; Back to You; The Big Bang Theory; Carpoolers; Cavemen; Chuck; Reaper; Samantha Who?
  • Favorite New TV Drama: Big Shots; Bionic Woman; Cane; Dirty Sexy Money; Gossip Girl; Journeyman; K-Ville; Life; Life Is Wild; Moonlight; Private Practice; Pushing Daisies; Women’s Murder Club
  • Favorite Talk Show Host: Ellen DeGeneres, Jay Leno, Oprah Winfrey [Missing: Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson, David Letterman]

If you haven’t yet guessed, the PCA’s are on CBS. I thought “The King of Queens” in the Favorite Comedy and Jennifer Love Hewitt in the Favorite Female TV Star was a dead giveaway. And um, Richard Belzer as Favorite Scene Stealer….what?!

I’m going to go vote now. I need to show some of the newbies like CHUCK and PUSHING DAISIES the love. To vote: http://www.pcavote.com/pca/index.jsp.

I’ve thought for a couple of years now that PCA is purely based on ratings. The broken, doesn’t take into account DVR or Internet fandom, old school Nielsen ratings.

I am in shock. I’m not even bothering with this award show! No Office or 30 Rock? Obviously CBS doesn’t know comedy.

I agree w/ you, GMMR. Pushing Daisies and Chuck are the only reasons i voted, otherwise, i wouldn’t even bother =/

The only categories of interest are the new shows, and that’s because it pretty much consists of all the new shows.
Chuck and Journeyman would be my choices (sorry, GMMR, for liking Journeyman just a tad more than PD).

But ok… if the point is that it is chosen by regular people voting, then why do they have so few choices in each category. Why not just give the award to those with the best ratings?
And here’s one you missed: South Park is far more important, meaningful, and entertaining than Family Guy (and I’ll never understand the appeal of King of the Hill).

And finally, I understand the point of those security codes, by why do the letters have be so hard to read. I couldn’t tell if, for example, a letter was a V or a Y, and it took me like 8 tries to get into the voting.

I can’t stand The People’s Choice Awards. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t nominate 3/4 of these people and/or shows. Though, I was excited to see BSG nominated for something!

Pushing Daisies was an early favorite, but “Life” has far surpassed it. “Life” keeps getting more interesting and Pushing Daisies is already the same ole same ole after a few weeks. It’s quirky and cute, but then there you are. What else? “Life” is awesome and deserves a huge media push if the writers strike gets over any time soon.
