The Strikes Victims – NBC Thursday Night TV Fans
November 20, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Here’s some news that just ticked me off. With the strike in full swing, NBC has announced that the next installment of Donald Trump’s tired reality show, The Apprentice, will be airing in the Thursday 9pm time slot come January. Interesting, I thought THE OFFICE was on at Thursday nights at 9pm. Does this mean that Ben Silverman and his cohorts at NBC have no faith that the strike will be over by then? What if things go well at the next WGA/AMPTP meeting scheduled for November 26th. Will THE OFFICE and SCRUBS still be bumped from the air in favor of the once dead Apprentice? NBC has supposedly said that if the strike is resolved quickly it’s “possible” that The Apprentice will be moved. Possible?!
Shame on you Ben Silverman. You are the one that brought back this sorry excuse for a reality show back from the grave promising a “celebrity” edition. You even tried to ruin the careers of some OFFICE actors by publicly saying that you hoped they would be involved. Your “celebrity” version of this show is more like The Surreal Life in a boardroom. Shame on you for thinking this is what the viewing audience wants to be seeing. You brought us THE OFFICE and UGLY BETTY…you know better!! And shame on you for bastardizing the branding of “Comedy Night Done Right”. Are you really so out of touch with things that you think that people want more Donald Trump?
As you may have guessed we won’t be promoting this season of The Apprentice much around here.

What? This is crap? Do they not understand that the fans do not want to see this garbage on tv? We want The Office and Scrubs. Are these execs so out of touch with reality? @sshats (thanks for introducing me to the word GMMR!)
I think I’m going to throw up.
Exactly CrazyGringa! Crap-Crap-Crap and more CRAP!!! This is sorry TV programming and I refuse to watch it! Instead I will be watching the first 3 seasons on dvd and season 4 (thanks to my beloved dvr) in place of new Office episodes!
I think I just verped in my mouth a little bit. That is the worse thing I’ve ever heard!!! Thurday night is one of the only nights I actually watch network tv, what the hell am I going to do now? I guess I’ll just watch Chuck over and over again.
This makes me wonder if they are only doing this because the meeting is this Monday. Do they think they could use this as leverage to scare the union? Something like, “We’ve already started replacing some of your shows”. This network greed is really making me sick.
That is such bad news. The Apprentice sucks…and taking over OUR timeslot, is the awful. Remember when NBC was looking for ways to thank the fans that have stuck with them? Now they are screwing us. I don’t know what to do to save our shows.
Wow! This strike is really hitting home now. Ok, I guess its time to bust out the pen and paper and write to Ben Silverman. There is no way I will EVER watch this garbage in place of my beloved “Office”.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
When I was ranting last week (on email. hey everybody else!) that we CANNOT promote or watch the reality tv crap that they replace scripted television with… THIS IS THE STUFF I WAS TALKING ABOUT. NO BB, NO Idol (I know it was already on the schedule but did you READ that article with the Fox execs laughing all the way to the Idol bank?)…
I usually love Idol but this year no more. And DEF. NO APPRENTICE.
Mr. Silverman will be getting a very angry letter from me about this. This is so idiotic. Nobody is going to watch The Apprentice, nobody will want Apprentice merchandise or dvds, and they will be making all of us who love the Office and who have been buying way too much Office related stuff very angry! Bring back my show NBC, or you will never see my money again!
*huddles in a corner and cries*
if there was ever a time i wanted to own a nielsen box, it is now so i could purposely NOT watch this damn thing on thursday nights in the office’s spot. i mean, i’m still not watching it, but the ratings guys really don’t care about me, so boo to that.
Well, no fear, no one is going to watch The Apprentice, ratings will go WAY down and they are going to have to beg for the writers to come back and save their butts. Every network is going to have a lot of this crap on TV until its resolved and I for one will not be watching much network TV until they stop acting like jerks, pay the writers what they deserve, and bring back our shows.
This is very bad news. I bet reruns of The Office would get much higher ratings than Trump’s crapfest would get, but of course if they re-ran the episodes I guess they’d have to pay the residuals to the writers and they wouldn’t want to do that, would they?
I can’t believe they announced this before the negotiations resumed next week – I guess NBC doesn’t think the talks are going to go anywhere. Ben Silverman has made such poor decisions so far in his position at NBC – he’s much better at producing actual shows than he is at the network executive level. There has to be a huge boycott of all reality TV, especially if nothing happens with the negotiations next week.
On the bright side (if there is one) the networkd are digging out the worst of the worst when it comes to their replacement reality shows. Donald sucks. Did anyone even watch the last cycle? Networks are making it so easy for me to turn off my TV.
what a joke
I would not watch The Apprentice in ANY time slot, let alone in place of my beloved Office. Screw you, NBC!
How much contempt can a network continue to spew out to its creative talent and to its fans? The execs are obviously incapable of dealing in good faith.
I will forever be grateful to NBC for bringing us The Office, but as of right now I will do nothing to support the network. My eyeballs and disposable income will go elsewhere.
*must refrain from screaming*
WHAT THE HELL?! Come on, Celebrity Apprentice will flop in the ratings, and you are screwing over the only shot you have at winning Thursday nights.
NBC you are an idiot.
If this is what we have to look forward to, I might as well sell my TV. I will NEVER watch this crud!
I am so glad you are as angry as me. How dare they mess with Thurs. at 9:00??!! This is war….
Ben Silverman, you’ve been the biggest supporter of The Office(US). And you replace it with Celebrity Apprentice???
See, NBC…this is why everyone makes fun of your network! Including your own late night stars!
We should start like an Oprah’s Book Club minus all of the pretentious BS on here, where we all rent the same DVDs or check out other shows when they go into reruns or something (I plan on catching up with Season 3 of Supernatural, myself), and then recap and discuss so there’s an alternative to stupid reality TV.
I think CrazyGringa is right. I think this was announced to intimidate the writers. Could anything be more insulting than being replaced by Trump?
I better go pay off my library fines, because I will NOT be watching this garbage.
This is…. by far…. the. most. Heinous. thing. I have heard in my life.
