About Last Night…BONES and SLEEPY HOLLOW

Fall TV is back! Fox got an early start on premieres, both with last week’s THE X FACTOR debut, then having most of their shows debut a full week before the other networks.
Which makes the return of About Last Night convenient: it’s all about what aired on Fox last night…
BONES: I really, really enjoyed “The Secrets in the Proposal”…I actually think it might be my favorite premiere since season 5’s “Harbingers in the Fountain.” And it feels weird to say that given how un-BONES-y the hour was in many ways. Booth and Brennan have had their issues and been disconnected before, but the stakes were never this high: they are in a relationship, they have a child, and they’re work partners. Hearing about Booth not coming home (even if we know the reasons why) and seeing how it was destroying Brennan was hard to watch. It’s not surprising that any of the team was acting the way they did.
I’m very curious if the dramatic tension was lessened at all for you guys, since the upcoming wedding news is probably one of the most wide-spread spoilers out there (for any show). Would love to hear your thoughts on that.
I know Aldo is coming back, but I really hope he pops up quasi-regularly. The character intrigued me from his first scene, and his relationship with Booth lets us see a side of the agent we’ve never really gotten to explore in the show’s run thus far.
SLEEPY HOLLOW: When I first heard about this pilot, it sounded crazy/ridiculous. And then I kept hearing how good it was. The upfront trailer intrigued me enough that it was one of the first pilots I checked out this year…and I was all in.
Part of that, for sure, is due to the fantastic work by leads Tom Mison (Ichabod) and Nicole Beharie (Abbie). Ichabod could be a character who is obnoxiously (albeit, understandably) ignorant in terms of the changes that have happened to America since he was put under (200+ years is a lot to adjust to!), but Mison made his bafflement work, nailing lines about Starbucks, slavery, women wearing trousers, etc., and actually made it charming. That’s not easy. And Beharie was able to go toe-to-toe with him, without becoming an easy, skeptical cliche. I’m so intrigued by this partnership and I can’t wait to see how the first season will play out.
P.S. – I know John Cho’s character lost his head, but now that GO ON is gone (no, I’m not over that yet. Give me another year, and we’ll touch base), maybe we’ll get to see his character in other ways? Please? I have lingering questions about his character!

Bones was awesome and I have Sleepy Hallow on my DVR. The first few minutes were awesome, so I’ll be enjoying it when my toddler has his nap.
Like you, I really enjoyed the Bones premiere, and totally agree that S5 was the last really good one! It’s funny, because I was talking with friends today, and at first, my reaction to the ep was “Okay, B&B are good. That’s all I care about”, but the more I think about it, I’m not 100% sure that Brennan’s acceptance of Booth’s situation doesn’t necessarily justify his actions. I am really glad that it was Brennan who offered the ‘bridge’ to Booth, so to speak, and I don’t think he’s out of the woods yet (after all, once she does find out the reason, they will have to deal with that). I’m not mad about anything really, I just had to laugh at myself for being so fan-girly that I just want B&B to be happy—which isn’t always a good thing.
I haven’t watched Sleepy Hollow yet, but I plan to 🙂
I loved last night’s Bones. Every character was perfectly in character. All the actions and reactions fit each one. I was happy to see that Angela’s actions weren’t as reprehensible as many feared, but really was just right, and I loved the introduction of Aldo and really do hope he becomes a recurring character & not just a guest with a multi-episode arc. And am intrigued by what they might do with Danny.
As for Sleepy Hollow, didn’t watch last night, too busy discussing Bones, but it was paired with Bones for a free purchase of the premieres. I’ll be checking it out later when I rewatch Bones.
