PERSON OF INTEREST: Sarah Shahi and Amy Acker Tease the Season 3 Premiere

PERSON OF INTEREST kicks off its third season tonight, and as it has been teased, Shaw (Sarah Shahi) and Root (Amy Acker) will be a more regular presence on the show.

“In the first episode, it’s me undercover, taking somebody down in the teaser, actually,” Shahi laughed. “It’s pretty much me chasing bad guys and shooting them while wearing a very tight, black dress. So hopefully that will get people excited. The Machine’s whereabouts are still not known [in the premiere]. The Machine talks to Finch and Root now…but Finch is not aware of that.”

Yep, the Machine is still talking to Root. Unfortunately for Root, though, she’s still locked up in a psychiatric facility when the show resumes.

“We pick up where we left off last year, so I’m not as free as I might like to be, but I think [Root] is pretty happy about the Machine being free,” Acker noted. “It’s a lot of fun that now we’ve got the old group that has always been there, and the Machine has contacted Finch and the government [in the past]. But now Root is getting numbers, too, we can see what that adds to the mix.”

And while technically, the new season is bringing Shaw closer to joining the original POI team, Shahi was very hesitant to call Shaw any sort of team player.

“Shaw, I wouldn’t say she’s joined the team — she’s parading on the outskirts of the team,” Shahi explained. “She’s sort of like a shark, just circling Reese and Finch. She’s auditioning them [and] she’s being auditioned. She doesn’t have a good bedside manner. Finch doesn’t like the fact that she just kills people. Shaw doesn’t really like the fact that Finch is trying to teach her a bedside manner, and that they’re trying to teach her about shooting in the kneecaps, not just clearly taking people out. She and Reese have teamed up — but again, we keep them, or at least the way I play Shaw is, at any moment, she could just pull out her HK and take everybody out and be like, “the hell with you all,” and be a lone wolf again. There’s a coolness about her that will always be there and a rebelliousness about her that will always be there. She doesn’t like people. But she really likes Bear.”
