THE MICHAEL J. FOX SHOW: What You Need to Know About the New NBC Series
September 26, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
There are approximately one million new shows debuting this season*, and it’s going to get difficult to keep track of them all.
To help you out, for every new show, I’m going to basically create a hub of info on the day of the premiere — pilot photos, my quick take on the pilot (or what I’ve seen so far), what’s been written about it so far, and when you can watch it.
Next up, THE MICHAEL J. FOX SHOW…
THE MICHAEL J. FOX SHOW
*Maybe not scientifically correct. But close enough.
NBC’s description: “Look who’s making the news again. One of New York’s most beloved news anchors, Mike Henry (Michael J. Fox, “Spin City,” “Family Ties”), put his career on hold to spend more time with his family and focus on his health after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. But five years later, with the kids busy growing up and Mike growing restless, it just might be time for him to get back to work. Having never wanted Mike to leave in the first place, his old boss Harris Green (Wendell Pierce, “The Wire,” “Treme”) jumped at the chance to get him back on TV. The trick, as it’s always been, was to make Mike think it was his idea. Now the plan is in motion and Mike will be back to juggling home, family, and career — just like the old days, but only better.
My take: There are certainly meta moments, but given that the show was ordered straight-to-series, it’s a surprisingly strong pilot. The cast gels well together, it has genuine moments of heart and humor.
