August 29, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
THE FOLLOWING’s new showrunner Jennifer Johnson is leaving the Fox drama to focus on developing new projects for WBTV, a source confirms.
Johnson’s exit (which was first reported by Deadline) comes less than three months after she joined the series, and just a month after she appeared at Comic-Con to promote the show. She had been brought in to replace THE FOLLOWING creator/showrunner Kevin Williamson, who stepped down from his day-to-day duties to focus on his new series, STALKER.
She will be replaced as showrunner by a trio of THE FOLLOWING vets: writers (and newly promoted executive producers) Brett Mahoney and Alexi Hawley, as well as director/executive producer Marcos Siega.
THE FOLLOWING is set to return in early 2015.
