CONSTANTINE: Matt Ryan Teases the Introduction of Anne Marie in His ‘Favorite Episodes’
December 12, 2014 by Marisa Roffman
CONSTANTINE is introducing Anne Marie, a woman from John Constantine’s past, in tonight’s brand new episode, and according to series star Matt Ryan (Constantine), it kicks off one of their best arcs.
“In episodes 8 and 9, we’re introduced to Anne Marie, who is from the Newcastle crew,” Ryan previewed to reporters on the show’s set last month. “They’re my favorite episodes so far. They have the right balance of it being really dark and humorous at the same time. For the show, it’s imperative it’s rooted in that really dark, twisted world, but at the same time John can say something completely and utterly irrelevant in the middle of it.”
And while Anne Marie is a part of the “Hellblazer” comics, Ryan teased the version on CONSTANTINE will be a bit different than the one DC fans might be expecting.
“They’ve changed Anne-Marie slightly from the comics,” he said. “Her and John had a thing when they were younger…What happens, and what John has to do, when I read it, I was like, ‘Fuck, man, this is so good.’ And it was just so fun to play. It was the hardest episode of all of them in terms of what I had to go through…but it’s pretty cool. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it in terms of what we do here. And I was like, this is the show, this is the bar, this is where we’ve got to be.”
