Emmys to Honor Memorable TV Lines
August 12, 2008 by Kath Skerry
According to THR.com, the Primetime Emmy Awards will celebrate some of TV’s most memorable lines from the past six decades in honor of the ceremony’s 60th anniversary.
“The lines, which may include “Good night, John Boy” or “Live long and prosper,” will be recited by such TV stars as Alec Baldwin, William Baldwin, Ricky Gervais, Kelsey Grammer, Heidi Klum, Denis Leary, Helen Mirren, Jeremy Piven, Doris Roberts, William Shatner, James Spader and Donald Trump during the ceremony, which airs at 8pm. Sept. 21 on ABC.”
Just in case the producers of the Emmys need a little help, I thought you and I could share a few of our most quotable TV lines. Here are a few of mine…add on to the list in the comments.

Nice job, Kath!
I have one old, old one that is likely before anyone’s time here and one newer one.
Old: “Say Goodnight Gracie” – Burns to Allen
Newer: “Make it work” – the inimitable Tim Gunn
“Make it work” – perfect…totally forgot about that one.
Very nice list! But you forgot about (and I hate to say it): “Is that your final answer?”
Perhaps also, “You got it, dude.” (Full House)
I’m going to be thinking more of this all day, so I might pop back on (especially if I can think of a Buffy one…To every generation a slayer is born…), but super-kudos on mentioning Newhart. Love it.
So many lines so little space.
Friends: “Could I be… wearing any more clothes?”
M*A*S*H: “Incoming”
A-Team: “I pity the fool”
Simpsons: “Aye Carumba”
How I Met Your Mother: “Legendary”
this is a lot harder than I thought, kudos for coming up with so many, I am excited to see how they do it.
I’ve been on a HIMYM kick ever since Dr. Horrible came out, so I’ve gotta go with:
“It’s gonna be legen – wait for it – dary!” and
“Suit up!”
Also, “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!”
“Frak” – Battlestar Galactica
“How rude!” — Stephanie from FULL HOUSE.
Gilmore Girls: “Oy with the poodles already!”
‘Let me tell ya somethin” FireMarshall Bill….In Living Color
“HEYYYY” The Fonz…..Happy Days
“Up your nose with a rubber hose” Sweathogs…Welcome back Kotter
“Wuz up” Martin
“The plane The Plane” Tatoo….Fantasy Island
“Thank you very much” Latka…Taxi
” To the moon Alice”…The honeymooners
“that’s a shame”-Seinfeld
Newman! – Seinfeld
I’m afraid I just blue myself – Arrested Development
Dr. Spaceman! Dr. Spaceman!- 30 Rock
Engage – Picard, Star Trek TNG
Resistance is futile – Borg, Star Trek TNG
I’m a doctor not a bricklayer! – McCoy, Star Trek TOS
America… – Uncle Bernie, The Bernie Mac Show
Great ones, Kath! I love ’em all. I also second some of the Full House ones mentioned above, and add my own “Well pin a rose on your nose…” LOL. That show was great.
And though it might not work this early in the game, one I bank on in the years to come … “”Well, it’s pretty much I bake pies and wake the dead. I live a very sheltered life.” – Ned, the Pie Maker. 😉
“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!!!”
— Arthur Carlson, WKRP in Cincinnati
Great list! Another oldie, from Jack Benny: “Now, cut that out!”
And one of my favorites: “The power of three will set us free”, from Charmed.
“Hello this is Carlton your doorman.” -Rhoda
“Oh, Bob.” -The Bob Newhart Show
“Oh, Rob!” -The Dick Van Dyke Show

“I love it when a plan comes together.” -The A-Team
“Sit on it.” -Happy Days

This is fun!
I’ve made a huge mistake – Arrested Development
