BONES Season 10.5: The Cast Teases Tension, Exciting News, Facing Demons, and More
March 23, 2015 by Marisa Roffman
BONES has been off the air for months, and the Fox drama finally is back this Thursday with the first of 12 new episodes.
To celebrate the occasion, I spoke with many of the BONES stars to see what they could share about what’s coming up in the second half of season 10…
On the return of Cyndi Lauper’s Avalon:
BONES kicks off its return with Avalon returning, and the psychic comes around at a particularly sensitive time: on Sweets’ birthday. And when she claims to have a message from the departed team member, not everyone is thrilled to hear what she has to say.
“He’s not happy,” TJ Thyne (Hodgins) previewed. “I think Avalon and Hodgins always have a [tense dynamic], so there’s already that [before she mentions Sweets].”
But Hodgins’ wife, Angela, is much more willing to hear what her go-to psychic has to say, leading to a bit of tension between the couple.
“It’s always interesting when there’s outside [influences],” Michaela Conlin (Angela) acknowledged. “t’s always fun when someone throws a little wrench into their relationship. It’s always fun having Cyndi Lauper on set, but that was a particularly fun episode. Angela and Hodgins stick to their normal belief system.”
And though Avalon’s messages might be met with skepticism from some of the team, newbie Aubrey’s first interaction with her hits close to home.
“She drops a little something about my relationship with my mom that catches me off guard,” John Boyd (Aubrey) teased. “It has me wondering, ‘How does she know [this]?'”
On Cam and Arastoo’s latest relationship hurdle:
Arastoo is dealt an emotional blow when he’s faced with the prospect of visiting his dying brother in Iran — and risking his freedom by returning to the country he escaped when he was younger.
“Arastoo is thinking of going back to Iran. Which, as you can imagine, Cam is not too happy about,” Tamara Taylor (Cam) previewed. “Tension ensues. It’ll all work out, I’m sure, but [it’s tough]…As always with Cam, the vulnerability is not the first thing that comes. The first thing is reactionary, anger, a lot of other things, and then the ‘I just love you and don’t want you to go.'”
Whether Arastoo ultimately opts to make the trek back to Iran is something you’ll have to wait until the episode to discover, but Pej Vahdat (Arastoo), no matter what, is grateful for the storyline.
“It’s the most important episode I’ve ever done,” Vahdat shared. “The things they write for me blow me away, and that’s why [I love it]…they blow me away every time.”
On Booth and Brennan’s baby secret…and Booth facing his demons again:
While viewers know Brennan will become pregnant (to mirror BONES star Emily Deschanel’s real-life pregnancy), it’ll be a bit before the show plays that card — and even longer for the rest of the team to discover the truth.
“There’s actually a really fun episode where they know [about the pregnancy], but we don’t know,” Thyne shared. “It’s really funny. As they’re joyful, the rest of us are like, ‘What’s going on?’…I think Angela will be stoked [by the news], so Jack will be happy because Angela is happy.”
But how long that joy lasts is a bit of a question mark as Booth finds himself dealing with his gambling addiction.
“There’s a really fun episode with poker that [also] brings up some stuff with Booth,” Conlin acknowledged.
“Booth faces some demons,” Boyd shared. “I think Aubrey is [wary]; we kind of saw that earlier in the season.”
And those that are closest to Booth are trying to monitor the situation to the best of their ability.
“Brennan’s pretty worried, and Cam’s pretty concerned,” Taylor added. “[Though] they actually don’t have me doing much of anything [about it yet] except for watching him [from afar].”
Changes for Hodgins and Angela?
Both Thyne and Conlin teased some changes ahead for their characters, but were coy about specific details.
“Hodgins has some good stuff [coming up]!” Thyne teased. “It’s exciting, and it’s going to build to something very exciting.”
“Hodgins is up to his no-good antics, for sure,” Conlin laughed. “[And] Angela and Hodgins have a development in terms of their stability. Something happens to Angela and Hodgins that will change how they live their lives.”
(Theories?)
And in the meantime, Thyne was stoked about another development for his character: “Aubrey and Hodgins get to go out in the field together!”
“It’s almost like the opening of a BONES episode when two people are walking [before they discover a body],” Boyd laughed.
“[Hodgins is] always so giddy when he gets to go out, he’s the most obnoxious person to deal with!” Thyne continued. “He just wants to go. He’s like a puppy on a leash, whose owner is like, ‘No, no, no, no, no!'”
And a little bonus tease:
Fox sent a handful of episodes out before the show’s return, and one of the best storylines to come is Caroline’s arc in “The Teacher in the Books.” Caroline (and her portrayer Patricia Belcher) has always been a solid, often underrated, BONES player, but her story in the April 2nd episode is one of my favorites the show has given her.
BONES returns Thursday, March 26th at 8 PM on Fox.

Cam having an affair wih an intern is just plain ludicrous When would she even have had the opportunity ( or the inclination) to become intimate with an intern
And why do the writers feel they have to kill off or write off all the best loved charactets
Bones has become nothing more than a gory soap opera
