Dear Showrunner... - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

Dear Showrunner…

Dear Showrunner

This, my friends, is me cheating.  This is me posting a post a pseudo-game in lieu of blogging this morning. I have my reasons, and though they might not be good enough, I still have ’em. Here’s where my head is at this fine Wednesday.

(1) The morning after one of the most important and historic Presidential elections this country has ever seen, I struggled with an appropriate post that should follow my last one which was Barack Obama’s acceptance speech.  Talking about how hot Charlie looked last night on PRIVILEGED, while a very important matter, didn’t seem right as my very first post of the day.  We will talk about it, but just later.

(2) I didn’t watch much TV outside of the election coverage last night, so I don’t have a ton to talk about right now.  Actually the major TV news item that is of interest to me right now is the de-gayifying of GREY’S ANATOMY and the firing of the brilliant Brooke Smith.  But after what happened last night with Prop 8 in California and Prop 2 in Florida, I feel that my emotions are not in check enough to deal with the ignorance and arrogance of others.

(3) I can afford to be a little lazy today as I have a 100% TV focused week ahead of me.  It all starts with a TV Bloggers weekend here in Boston.  Rae from Ramblings of a TV Whore and Amrie from My Take on TV are headed to Boston to hang with me and Ducky this weekend. I’m sure we’ll be doing some podcasting so stay tuned.

And guess what happens when they leave?  I head off to Los Angeles for a 6-day TV adventure!  I’ll let you know what I’m up to as things get finalized, but if things go as planned I’ll be stopping by to visit a few shows which are quickly becoming favorites for GMMR readers.  I’m excited!!  I’ve missed you L.A.!!

(4) The best part of having a TV blog (outside of meeting John Krasinski and Joshua Jackson) is reading comments from all of you! (Yeah, sorry but as much as I love you all you just don’t trump JK or JJ).  So anytime I can post something hear that allows me to hear what you all have to think, I’m one happy blogger.

Ok, so let’s go.  Here’s what I’d like to know. If you could ask one showrunner, from any show, just one question what would it be?  The show can be on the air or a favorite show from your past.

I’ll start…
For Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse of LOST – Did you know how LOST would end before the show started to air?  If not at what point in time did you figure it all out?

(yes, I suppose 2-parters are ok).

If anyone wants to play along, leave your questions in the comments. You never know who stops by GMMR during the day…maybe one of your questions will be answered.

    Dear Marc Cherry –
Why did you decide to push Desperate Housewives 5 years into the future? Were you ever nervous it wouldn’t work?

First off, thanks for giving a shout out to the unfortunate passing of prop 8 here in CA. It makes me sick. Contintuing to educate people on the injustices that are in this world is key to hopefully turning that prop over next time around, thanks GMMR!

ANYway for How I Met Your Mother’s Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, now that we’re into season 4… and the time lines and backstories are becoming a little more complicated, how is it that you’re keeping all your facts straight? And how far ahead do you have to plan to include a story line that’s already been promised? (ie the goat in the bathroom?)

For JJ Abrams – I always wanted to know if you think Felicity should have ended up with Noel or Ben?

Did I just give up my Dude card by asking that?

Lynzee, I think Carter and Craig knew you were going to be asking that and that’s why they answered a similar question in their Variety Q&A a few days ago. 😉

I have many showrunners I’d ask things of… but utmost on my mind I suppose is Bryan Fuller, for any of his shows really, “All of your shows have had an almost fairy tale quality about them from the quirkiness of the Worlds you build to the richness in their look and feel. What works do you think have influenced you over the years and where do you draw your inspiration?”

I guess I have the same question as Lynzee but only to the team behind Lost. How do you keep track of everything. Do you use Lostpedia like the rest of us do?

I would want to ask that bastard Eric Kripke: You have always said you had a 5 year plan. How much of that plan is still in place and how much of that plan has changed because of network “suggestions” and the writer’s strike? Or changed because you just wanted to change it?

I would ask Ronald D. Moore, David Eick, the SciFi Channel, and NBC/Universail why Battlestar Galactica has not released any new promo pictures or trailers since JUNE! Season 4.5 starts in 2 months and there has been no word of when new information might come out. Where are our BSG promos???

Dear Joss Whedon, why did you not convince us of the awesomeness that is Firefly so that instead of mourning and re-watching our 14 episodes, we would have been gearing up for season 7?

Now, ask me what I’d ask the b**tards that cancelled Veronica Mars.

Dear Greg Daniels…or whomever is in charge of this,

Why has there not been a concerted effort to get Amy Ryan to stick around? Has anyone NOT liked her character?

i have a few too many questions as i am a tv junkie. josh schwartz – how are you able to find the right balance for your shows – music, actors, pop culture references, fashion, etc. and since i obviously don’t know you, are any of the characters based partially on yourself or people you know? any plans to bring any other actors from the oc to your current shows? there’s enough similarity – couldn’t you just see the seth as chuck’s buy more double when he was out on a spy mission and nobody noticing? chuck … any plans to bring john larroquette back as roan? his character was a perfect fit. lastly, on gossip girl, chuck was the character that i disliked most and is now my favorite, how in the heck did you pull that off?

Dear Aaron Sorkin, creator and head writer of four glorious years of The West Wing – arguably one of the best shows EVER. I’ve read several places that in the last two episodes of your swan song season – “Commencement” and “25” you were setting Josh and Donna up for something other than what we actually saw pan out (Amy to Donna: Are you in love with Josh?)… would you have tortured us for nearly 3 additional years like TPTB did?

Can I just address (2) for a second here? Seriously? SERIOUSLY, Shonda?!? WHY?!? I mean, you totally screwed up the plot anyway when you made Erica seem like a creepy stalker, and Callie like a little whore, but … honestly? To cut out Brooke because her character was no longer able to offer a storyline? You suck.

And part two of that … Prop 8! What? Can you enlighten this Canadian… did it pass? Is it certain? If so – that’s really crappy, too. I just don’t get it. I don’t get it one bit, why people are so full of hate that they can’t just leave well alone and let people be.

Um … also, BRYAN FULLER, if you ever happen upon this site …. why are you such a genius? Is it somewhere in your DNA? Not only are you giving us the joy of a daily Daisies dose, but you also gave us such classics as Dead Like Me, and Wonderfalls, which were beautifully plotted and written. I think you, sir, should be running this country along with Obama.
