No More Eps for PUSHING DAISIES, ELI STONE & DIRTY SEXY MONEY…at Least for Now

Ugh and ugh. Word on the street is that the producers of PUSHING DAISIES, DIRTY SEXY MONEY and ELI STONE have been informed that ABC will not be picking up any additional episodes beyond their initial 13 episode order…at least for now.
James Hibbard of THR.com, who just reported this news, said that the network has been carefully avoiding the word cancellation as they want to leave the door open for these shows to return. Although it’s extremely unlikely that we will see any new eps past the 13 of this season I guess there’s still a little hope that the shows aren’t dead. Maybe Ned the Pie Maker can use his special touch to bring these shows back to life.
Whether or not you are a fan of these specific shows, I think as a devoted TV watcher you have to mourn their loss. All three shows, and especially Daisies and Stone represented a unique voice in the television world. In a TV schedule overrun with reality shows, game shows, and procedurals, it’s sad to know that there isn’t an audience for series that really standout creatively against the norm. As both these shows were critically acclaimed I expect that in their place we are going to get more of the same generic stuff that has been offered in years past. Because really maybe the next new medical shows will really break the mold.
UPDATE: While there has been no official comment from Greg Berlanti, creator of Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone, he supposedly informed his cast and crew that it was time to look for new jobs.
Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller has confirmed the news. And I just received word from a Pushing Daisies writer that the show is essentially over…at least as we know it. For more on PUSHING DAISIES news, visit ThePieMaker.com.

I had no idea DSM was on the block! I admit, I never had a chance to catch Eli Stone, but I will miss the other two dearly!!!
This is ridiculous. I was holding out hope on Pushing Daisies and didn’t even know that Eli Stone was in trouble. These are two of my favorite shows, and I am so disappointed. I am not sure what sort of vision these network heads have for their futures, but they are going down the wrong road.
So I had considered this option before this news, but I didn’t want to say anything, so as to not assume that this would happen: Wouldn’t Pushing Daisies be perfect for a non-network (cable or premium) channel? Their ratings requirements are different, and a show with a sizeable cult following could really be a good fit.
Tears literally jumped to my eyes when I read this post, as I had been dreading news like this all day. While I guess it’s not “the end” for PD, it damn near sounds like it, and that makes my heart hurt. Why would the network leave the showrunners and cast hanging like this, though? That makes no sense. You said there was probably zilch hope for more eps this season, but when would an official “cancelation/renewal” decision be announced?? And what would/could sway their decision? Do you think the campaigns/save our show/sending daisies could help boost their view of the show???? I knew Daisies was on the chopping block, but I didn’t know Stone and DSM were as well. I’m sad. Very sad. Three great shows most likely gone. ABC has lost it’s mind. What are they going to do, have 5 nights of Dancing with the Stars? God help us all!
ABC is almost loosing me as a viewer- if I didn’t watch Life on Mars and like it so much- I wouldn’t even turn the channel on. I’m really disappointed and I’m really hoping that some way Pushing Daisies will be brought back. I’ll miss it too much 🙁 I thought for sure when I watched the pilot episode last fall that it would be a huge hit. I never would have guessed it would be canceled

Who is running that place, anyway? Private Practice is given all the advertising in the world (and chance after chance), but Pushing Daisies is provided with little to no advertising and nary a chance to gain an audience?
So the only show that I still watch on ABC is Life on Mars. And I’m not watching it any more. I like it, but I don’t think I can get attached to any quality show on such a terrible network.
This is crazy. According to futoncritic.com, the ratings were up 38% and it beat Knight Rider for the 2nd week. DSM was up too and came in 2nd in the coveted 18-49 female demo. When I read that I thought we had real hope.
I suppose part of the reasoning behind not canceling Private Practice is just from the fact that it is a Grey’s spinoff, and therefore SHOULD be getting good ratings, quality or not.
So are any sophomore shows doing any better than they did last year? Chuck and Terminator are flailing. Big Bang Theory is doing well, but it also was doing pretty well last year. Networks like NBC and ABC had a strategy of basically “relaunching” their new shows from last year that were interrupted by the strike. And it doesn’t look like that strategy paid off… really at all.
My heart weeps. Or something similarly overly dramatic. Daisies was such a great show, and its dead before its time. 🙁
I 100% blame ABC for PDs demise. They did NOTHING to promote it and yet they expect people to tune in? They did nothing to fight for this wonderful show and it makes me incredibly sad. RIP Quality TV!!
I really enjoy watching Dirty Sexy Money, it’s probably the show that gets most stuck in my head after viewing. And even though I didn’t watch the others…sad to see good shows leave the airs. I really can’t stand all those L&O/CSI shows. Blech.

I’m sadder than sad about this. They’re losing the people who actually love TV, and what we’ll have left are dancers, doctors, and lawyers. The networks will get what they deserve and so, I suppose, will we.
I’m sooooo upset!!! I absolutely ADORE Pushing Daisies–it’s such a highlight to my week and such a pick-me-up. It’s so original and unique but most shows like that get cancelled. I used to be a big CSI fan but i can’t bring myself to watch all the backed up episodes that are on my DVR b/c nothing is drawing me to them anymore. It’s just the same old thing. But i have to watch PD live b/c it’s so different! And the characters and storylines are so endearing! And, i’ll admit, my DVR is also backed up w/ Eli Stone episodes but i’ve just been so busy. I really enjoyed the first season of Stone and thought it was a wonderful show! So that’s annoying too. ABC just sucks. I, like one of the other commenters, wouldn’t even be watching ABC if it wasn’t for PD and Stone. The network hasn’t done anything for PD as far as promotion, which is all their fault! I’m just so upset!!! That’s by far one of my favorite shows! I should be used to this; i’ve watched many a show that was unique and was cancelled like Firefly, Arrested Development, and Special Unit 2 (which is pretty obscure). Is there any way we can save PD?!
Can’t they just order a couple more episodes to wrap everything up?!? I need closure!!! 🙁
Just found out from Ausiello and went here for another confirmation. I’m about to go to bed and I had to learn this information? Truly horrible night. All three shows are incredible and different from the 1,007 CSIs and L&Os (though I admit I don’t mind L&O SVU when I’m in the mood). But come on ABC, I think they already had their mind set on this before the season started. Didn’t they keep mentioning how they have so many mid-season shows? Yeah, you keep According to Jim but ditch these three good hour programs? Freakin’ crazy! I truly have been enjoying Eli Stone, PD is barely ever on but when it is it is always really good and was going in a great direction and while DSM does sometimes stray from where I would like it to go, it is still an enjoyable watch compared to so many crap shows out there.
A few series are changing their day and time slots. PP is going after GA and Life on Mars will be after Lost. PP isn’t even that good and it gets to stay? Why is ABC losing faith in so many of it sophomore shows when they aren’t even really slumping?

Yeah, ABC has officially lost me… er, wait, until Lost comes back on again. Until then, I will not be watching this network. So disappointed. How does crap like Two and a Half Men survive for season after season, yet brilliance like Pushing Daisies doesn’t even get a fighting chance?
Pushing Daisies is such an amazing show. I dont know anyone who has watched it and not liked it. How can they not see that if it were only advertised it would take off? Its like they did not want it to succeed. And what happened to the so called relaunching? It just seemed like a barely advertised second season of a show they were planning to cancel anyway. At least finish the season and give us a finale. ABC has cancelled so many of my favorites prematurely. I just don’t understand their strategy.
What I am wondering is where the ratings actually come from. Maybe the wrong people have these Neilson ratings boxes. We need to get them into the living rooms of people who actually watch quality TV.
I hate ABC with the power of 1000 suns! I diligently watch all 3 of these shows and I am vibrating with anger right now. By the end of this TV season, there will be nothing left on except reality, CSIs and L&Os. Maybe that’s what these producers should do… CSI:Coeur d’Coeurs or Law & Order:Prophetic Justice. I’d watch.

I’m so upset. I love Eli Stone. I’m heartbroken. They probably did this to make room for their stupid Cupid remake. Uggh! What’s wrong with TV today? If they replace it with reality TV, I think I might just give up all together.
Tessa (upthread) is right. How Pushing Daisies gets canceled and the horrible Private Practice lives on is beyond me. I’m so sad about Pushing Daisies that I have nothing more to say for now.
I hate ABC. They did nothing for Eli Stone. They showed no interesting clips of upcoming episodes when they did advertise it. When you have Victor Garber singing and flames coming out of his hands, don’t you think that would have been a visually gripping scene to preview to potential watchers? Stupid!

Eli Stone is the best show on t.v. right now and they cancel it? Who is running the network? There is a fully rounded cast with lots of potential (and I just LOOOOVE Maggie!). It’s funny and so out of the box that I just smile thinking about it. I wish that TNT or USA would pick it up because my DVR doesn’t care what channel it’s on! SAVE ELI!
DSM had something last year but I couldn’t even get through the first episode this season. It was more like a daytime soap, I was waiting for the vampire to come and dispose of the murdered wife of the Baldwin brother.
Pushing Daisies was OK and I will miss it being on because we need to have variety on our schedule!
