Fox Orders THE MASKED SINGER
August 2, 2018 by Marisa Roffman
Fox has ordered THE MASKED SINGER, an unusual singing competition.
In the contest, the performers are dressed in elaborate costumes—complete with a mask covering their face—as they sing for for a group of celebrity panelists (Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke) and a studio audience. Every week, there will be more clues dropped about each person’s identity, with each character only being unmasked when they are eliminated from the competition.
Nick Cannon is set as host of the new series.
Though the contestants participating are being kept quiet, Fox says the lineup has “amassed 65 Grammy nominations,
16 multi-Platinum albums, 16 Emmy nominations, nine Broadway shows, four stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and four Super Bowl titles.”
“This is truly one of the most unique, genre-defining formats I’ve ever seen,” said Rob Wade, President, Alternative Entertainment and Specials, Fox Broadcasting Company, in a statement. “It’s a massive international hit, and its boldness and originality make it the perfect fit for FOX.”
“There are very few hit formats left in the world, and when I saw THE MASKED SINGER, which is a true global and viral phenomenon that has captured the world’s attention, I knew it had to be brought to life in America,” added executive producer Craig Plestis.
