SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Premiere Audition Highlights – Daniel Baker, Hampton Williams (‘The Exorcist’), Bree Hafen and Shafeek Westbrook
May 25, 2012 by Kath Skerry
Filed under So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD
If you’re a long time reader of GMMR or follow me on Twitter then you know my sincere and deep love for SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Of course I think SYTYCD is the best reality show on TV, but for me, it’s one of my favorite shows, period. I (not so) anxiously wait for its return each summer. Last night my beloved show was back and showcased some incredible talent..
When the competition part of the show kicks into gear, Dan (@duckydoestv) and I will be back with our weekly TV Talk Podcast – SYTYCD Edition, but it’s too early to latch on to dancers that might not make it past Vegas. So for now, let’s look at a few of our favorite auditions from last night. If you have other faves, drop us a note in the comments and we might add yours to our list!
Hampton Williams (aka ‘The Exorcist’)
A polarizing audition to say the least, I think you either loved Hampton Williams or you just didn’t get him. Clearly the judges got him. Nigel’s jaw was on the floor, Mary was in full on crying hysterics and Lil C tried to throw imaginary sparkles at him. I don’t know if I want to see Hampton every week on the show, but I was absolutely mesmerized by the story he was able to tell though his dancing. Wow! If nothing else, his performance gave us the quote of the night (if not the season) from Lil C – “Don’t take this the wrong way but I want to kick you in your face right now.” Exactly.
Bree Hafen
Stay at home mom of two, Bree Hafen, had us all scratching our heads – how the hell does she find the time to keep her dancing up at this high of a level with two munchkins running around? She was impressive to say the least. But it was her kids that stole the show. If you haven’t seen it, I don’t want to spoil it for you, but when her son walked on to the stage and did what he did, I was a wreck. Oh legit tears and all. And her adorable little girl? She had some serious dance intuition for someone still in diapers. Expect to see her on the finale in some capacity at the end of the summer.
GLEE’s Kevin McHale & Harry Shum Jr. Act Out a Klaine Breakup, a Finchel Farewell and More

GLEE stars Kevin McHale and Harry Shum Jr. participated in a live viewing party during last night’s season finale of GLEE. During one part of the show, the host presented cardboard face cutouts of each of the cast and asked Kevin and Harry to improvise or reenact scenes from GLEE as different characters. The results were hilarious! Check it out.
GLEE Season Finale: It’s Graduation Day on GLEE
May 23, 2012 by Kath Skerry

[The following contains spoilers for the GLEE season finale. If you haven’t seen it you might want to stop reading now. You’ve been warned.]
You know it’s going to be a long night when the show is at the 15 second mark and I’m already reaching for the Kleenex.
I should warn you that this recap is being written within minutes of the episode ending and thus I’m operating from a place of tears, rainbows and the spirit animals of all gleeks – unicorns.
Perhaps there has been a stronger episode of GLEE since the pilot all those years ago, but in this very moment I can’t remember one. A show that sometimes struggles to do anything right pretty much nailed everything tonight. The right characters, relationships and storylines were given the time they needed to be explored and given there proper send-off. The music complimented and enhanced the storytelling. Even the very shocking twists made sense not only with regards to the story arc for certain characters, but in as much as they left the audience truly invested in how the repercussions will play out next season.
In some ways tonight’s episode felt more like a series finale than a season finale. In some ways I suppose it was. GLEE will of course be back for season 4 but the show will, for better or worse, not be the GLEE we have loved/hated/thrown things at/sang love songs too over the past few years. The specifics haven’t been revealed, but we do know that while some of GLEE will be focused on the remaining members of New Directions at McKinely High, the show will also follow the post-grad lives of the Class of 2012. To what extent we will see Quinn, Puck, Mike, Mercedes and even Finn, I’m not sure. They won’t all be in every episode, but I’d imagine we’ll check in with them from time to time. If nothing else, let’s not forget the amazing reunion number we’ll get at Mr. Schue’s upcoming nuptials.
To talk about the future plans of the seniors requires that we get some business out of the way.
In the interest of not burying the lede any more than I already have, let’s just jump in with both feet and talk about the more shocking moments of tonight’s episode. (Prepare yourself folks, I have a lot of feelings tonight and this keyboard is taking the brunt of it.)

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE Says Goodbye to Kristen Wiig [Video]

Filed under Saturday Night Live, SNL
Last night SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE said farewell to one of the most talented ladies to every be part of the show (and that’s saying a lot given its alumni). After seven years with the show, Kristen Wiig said goodbye to the late night sketch comedy show.
Her final moments were incredibly touching as she shared a small dance with each of the cast members as they all tearfully said their goodbyes. The full SNL ensemble, and many notable alums including Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch and Chris Kattan joined host Mick Jaggar in a chorus of Ruby Tuesday as the credits started to roll.
I’m sure that I’m not the only one who was a crying mess last night.
If you missed Kristen Wiig’s goodbye, watch the extended version here.
So what’s next for Wiig? Building on the mega-success of “Bridesmaids”, Kristen is slated for a whole slew of movies coming out this year and 2013. Later this year Wiig will be seen in “Imogene” alongside Annette Bening and GLEE’s Darren Criss. Other upcoming co-stars include Ben Stiller, Sean Penn, Shirley MacLaine, Adam Scott, Paul Rudd, Robert DeNiro and countless others. Pretty sure Wiig isn’t going to be an SNL alum that quietly fades away. We can’t wait to see what she’s up to next.
Congratulations Kristen and thank you!

It’s the question we at GIVE ME MY REMOTE will be asking all summer long…So You Think You Can Dance?
As we (not so anxiously) await the premiere of our very favorite dance show, some of the stars from Fox’s other hit shows including RAISING HOPE, NEW GIRL, THE FINDER, HOUSE, GLEE and and more talk about (and sometimes demonstrate) their own dancing skills.
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE premieres on Thursday, May 24th at 8/7c. And don’t forget that this time around the results show has been eliminated so it’s only one night of SYTYCD a week. Savor every moment.
Get ready with a short preview of the dancing coming your way this summer.
GIVE ME MY REMOTE will be covering SYTYCD all season long with additional special coverage on The TV Talk Podcast. Can’t wait!!
