GLEE: ‘The Spanish Teacher’…Oh, Dios Mío

Even you die hard ‘GLEE-can-do-no-wrong’ers’ out there have to admit that despite Ricky Martin’s dashing good looks, dazzling white teeth and hot hip action, this week’s episode was rather miserable. And you know an episode of GLEE is bad when not even the musical performances can save it. Ay caramba!

Was I the only one that went back to the beginning of the episode to make sure Mr. Schue didn’t write ‘Inappropriate’ on his white board of bad themes? There were so many things that were just plain wrong about this episode that I found myself echoing Mercedes anthem “Hell to the No’. Read more

NBC’s Thursday Night Shuffle – THE FIRM Out; AWAKE In

February 3, 2012 by

There’s hardly a move that NBC makes these days that doesn’t feel reactionary or even desperate. With another under-performing show to deal with NBC must once again jostle its Thursday night schedule in the hopes of regaining a glimpse of the ratings of yesteryear.

This time around it’s THE FIRM that has fallen victim to lack of eyeballs, and thus the law thriller is being moved to Saturday nights at 9pm (shudder) beginning on February 11th. NBC’s new show AWAKE, starring Kyle Killen and Jason Issacs will take over the Thursday at 10pm time slot starting on March 1st.

So what’s the deal with AWAKE?
Police detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs) regains consciousness following a car accident involving his wife Hannah (Laura Allen) and his son Rex (Dylan Minnette). Michael moves back and forth between two realities: in one, Rex survived while Hannah is dead; in the other, Hannah survived but Rex did not. Trying to keep both his loved ones alive, Michael starts living a “double life,” moving back and forth between the two realities, dealing with different personal conflicts and police partners. He also starts noticing strange links between the two realities

Check out the trailer for AWAKE.

I know I’ll be tuning in…you?

GLEE Recap: “Michael” – It’s McKinley v. Dalton in the Battle for MJ

January 31, 2012 by

Move over Sharks and Jets. Step aside Crips and Bloods. There is a new turf war and this time it’s McKinley v. Dalton – and these kids fight with some mean harmonies.

In the first tribute episode of the season, GLEE took on the music of Michael Jackson. I had hoped it would be a musical feast, and I wasn’t disappointed. You gotta love an episode that smacks you in the face with a super strong performance before the opening credits. Nine performances made it into the episode (“I Want You Back” by The Warblers was cut in editing, but it’s still available for purchase on iTunes) and and not a true grenade among them.

The Warbler/McKinley battle was the backdrop for most of the episode, but “Michael” also included one of the show’s biggest moments – Rachel Berry agreeing to marry Finn Hudson. Throw in some college acceptances and the “aine” of Klaine being injured and I guess you’ve got yourself an episode.

Here’s a bit of what went down tonight and my take on the show’s epic musical moments. Be sure to share your favorite moments from tonight’s GLEE in the comments.
