CHUCK: ‘Chuck vs. the Balcony’

January 18, 2011 by

“I happen to like two buck Chuck. Great bang for your buck.”

Unlike the fine bottle of red with a stable on the label and the stork on the cork, six weeks without a new episode of CHUCK isn’t something that gets better with time. In fact, it became increasingly more difficult to face a Monday without CHUCK as the weeks went on. To say I was thrilled to have Chuck, Sarah, Morgan and the rest of the Buy More gang back tonight is a bit of an understatement.  I’m glad that I stayed far away from spoilers because I didn’t realize that so much of tonight’s episode would center around the impending engagement of Sarah Walker and Chuck Bartowski. Bonus!

No doubt at all that Chuck “likes it,” but he just wasn’t able to “put a ring on it.”  You can’t really blame the guy though. He gave it his best. And it really wasn’t his fault. Between Casey’s bad timing, international terrorists, old wine, and Sarah being arrested for treason, Chuck was rock-blocked at every turn.

Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Monday, January 17, 2011

Welcome back, Monday!

Yes, almost all of our Monday night favorites return tonight with brand new episodes. And as an added bonus (if you can call it that), we’ve got a few new shows to check out, too. Of course this sounds good in theory, but in practice it’s a complete nightmare. There is just too much to watch in the 8pm hour.  Am I really supposed to choose between HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, CHUCK and PRETTY LITTLE LIARS? Sadly, yes. Life is so cruel sometimes.

As for those new shows, NBC brings us Kathy Bates as the star of HARRY’S LAW and over on Syfy is the long-awaited premiere of the U.S. version of BEING HUMAN. Vampires, werewolves and ghosts…oh my! But it’s not the only British remake premiering tonight. MTV has the premiere of SKINS. Um, it’s not for anyone younger than the girls on 16 AND PREGNANT…got it?

Check out some of the highlights from tonight’s TV lineup, and let’s have a chat about what you are going to watch when and how. More of my thoughts down below.

Chuck | 8pm on NBC
“Chuck Versus the Balcony”
Chuck embarks on two secret quests. As he tries to locate a nano-chip in the vineyards of France, he also attempts to stealthily concoct a romantic getaway for Sarah. Meanwhile, Lester pesters Big Mike to help him sort out his troubled love life. [GMMR: It almost feels like a brand new season of CHUCK. It’s been so long. Can’t wait to have Chuck, Sarah, Casey and the gang back tonight. Are you with me?!]

How I Met Your Mother | 8pm on CBS
“Last Words”
The friends travel to Minnesota to be there for Marshall as he buries his father. Ted and Barney try anything to make Marshall laugh. Marshall runs into an old nemesis from high school.

House | 8pm on Fox
“Larger than Life”
After saving a stranger who fell onto subway tracks, a man suddenly collapses despite appearing to be unscathed; House tries to avoid a dinner with Cuddy and her opinionated mother (Candice Bergen). [GMMR: Sad that I have had to give up on HOUSE this year. Can’t wait to play catch up this summer. Love this show, but Monday’s are just too nasty.]

Pretty Little Liars | 8pm on ABC Family
“Frenemies”

“A” tempts Hanna to return to her old criminal ways. Meanwhile, Noel continues to go after Ezra; Emily’s mother stops pretending to accept Maya; Spencer adjusts to her sister’s marriage; and the girls get some surprising assistance.

So much more after the jump…keep reading.

GLEE’s Chris Colfer Wins Golden Globe! (Video)

Chris Colfer, star of GLEE, took home the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor tonight.  The young star looked absolutely floored as his name was read. He took to the stage and delivered a witty and emotional speech which included a message to those who bully kids like those featured on GLEE.

Watch Chris Colfer’s Golden Globes speech and just try not to smile.

So proud of Chris! More than any other nominee tonight, I was hoping Chris would win. His performance as Kurt Hummel is simply spectacular. I’ve watch his name being read and his speech about 10 times already tonight and I cry every time.

We love you, Chris!

2011 Golden Globes – Team GMMR Picks Our Favorites

Listen, I like Piper Perabo just as much as anyone else, but any press association that regards her among the nominees for Best Actress in a TV Drama can’t be taken that seriously.  The Hollywood Foreign Press always puts on a good show though, and with Ricky Gervais at the helm once again, I’m expecting one hell of a party.

The recognition of TV and movies in one ceremony makes The Golden Globes my favorite awards show to watch. That and the fact that the audience is given booze throughout…you just never know what’s going to happen.

Since we’re all about TV here at GIVE ME MY REMOTE, we thought we’d share who we would like to see take the stage and receive their globe of gold on Sunday night. We might not always choose the winners, but we’ve got our favorites.

Whew…we made it!  It’s Friday.

Of course for me, it doesn’t quite feel like a Friday without SUPERNATURAL and SMALLVILLE in the line-up.  But they’ll be back soon enough and we’ll be adding FRINGE to our Friday spotlight posts too.  Good times!

Just a little shout out to Marisa Roffman who is covering the TCAs for GiveMeMyRemote.com in L.A. over the next few weeks.  It’s a lot of work, but hopefully she’s having a bit of fun.  So jealous that she got to sit in a room with Oprah yesterday.  Sadly, the big O didn’t give away any cars.

For the latest from the winter TCAs, keep checking GMMR and be sure to follow @MarisaRoffman and @KorbiGhosh on Twitter.

Now on to the highlights (and I use that term loosely) of tonight’s TV lineup. Talk to us…what will YOU be watching?

Supernanny | 8pm on ABC
“The George Family”
Jo helps a couple who are unable to discipline their five aggressive daughters and young granddaughter. [GMMR: Now here’s a show that I’d like to see a ‘where are they now’ episode. I’m betting at least half of those children she worked with reverted back to their devil spawn state as soon as the cameras were off.  Right?]

Medium | 8pm on CBS
“Only Half Lucky”
Allison has a dream that causes her to become suspicious of her brother’s (David Arquette) recent success; Devalos’ campaign manager is interested in Bridgette’s abilities. [GMMR: Any fans of this show out there?  Wondering if it changed the perspective of fans now that we saw first hand what a certifiable crackpot the real Allison DuBois is.]

CSI: NY| 9pm on CBS
“The What End?”
A man in a clown costume shoots a bakery owner and the investigation reveals a decision from Flack’s past that puts him in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Jo’s ex-husband, FBI agent Russ Josephson (David James Elliott), visits.

Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star | 9pm on OWN | Series Premiere
“It Takes a Village”
Ten would-be Oprahs and Dr. Phils vie for a chance at a talk show of their very own on OWN in this elimination contest. In the series opener, they’re introduced by Oprah and must produce talk-show segments under Dr. Phil’s watchful eye. Carson Kressley and Nancy O’Dell are the hosts. Mark Burnett (“Survivor,” “The Apprentice”) is the executive producer.

It’s Thursday!  Okay, not all of our favorite shows are back with new episodes tonight, but is that really a bad thing?  Yes, I’m going to be missing the Salvatore brothers and the hijinks over at Dunder Mifflin. I’m sure many of you wish we were visiting one of the FRINGE universes this evening or spending some quality time with your favorite TV couple, Booth and Hannah (oh snap!).  But at least this is a manageable Thursday night lineup, without the stress of overworked DVRs…

Which shows are you going to watch live, DVR for later, or skip altogether?

Here are a few highlights from tonight’s TV lineup…

The Big Bang Theory | 8pm on CBS
“The Bus Pants Utilization”
Leonard has a great idea for a smartphone app, and it causes friction with Sheldon. [GMMR: I can only imagine what Leonard will come up with. Perhaps an app to deal with Sheldon’s “behavioral issues”.]

$#*! My Dad Says | 8:30pm on CBS
“Goodson Goes Deep”

Ed is thrown a curveball when a piece of baseball memorabilia he wants is sold to someone else; Bonnie and Vince’s living situation complicates their pregnancy efforts. [GMMR: Winner of the People’s Choice Awards for Favorite New TV Comedy.  Yeah, I tend to believe that the “people” are better than that. Nice rig job, CBS. RAISING HOPE got screwed!]

Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“Disarm”
A mass shooting at a nearby college reopens some not-so-old wounds at the hospital. Meanwhile, Arizona returns to a welcome that’s less than warm.

CSI | 9pm on CBS
“Man Up”
A call girl is strangled to death and her body is found in a Dumpster. A photo of the crime scene appeared on the Internet before the victim was discovered, but it was initially believed by the CSIs to be fake. Carrot Top appears as himself.

Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“If You Don’t Know Me By Now”
Addison’s mother demands she do whatever it takes to keep her partner alive; a medical consultation becomes complicated for Amelia and Pete; Charlotte and Cooper give intimacy another try; Violet considers publishing a revealing book. [GMMR: I wonder if Taye Diggs knows he is my new favorite coffee drink. #CougarTown]
