ELSBETH investigates a death on the set of a police procedural on the Thursday, December 19 episode, “Toil and Trouble.”

“[Guest star] Laurie freaking Metcalf is what delighted me the most!” series star Carrie Preston, who plays Elsbeth, teased to Give Me My Remote via email. “We had worked together one other time (on GETTING ON) but obviously she was a dream guest star in a season full of incredible guest stars.”

“That episode is very meta—a procedural within a procedural—and there were times when we were filming where I would grab a water or a pen and have to ask the prop master if it was part of the set or not,” she continued. “I wanted to portray Elsbeth’s wide-eyed wonder at the world of tv and her true admiration of the actors and crew. She is a kid in a candy store on the set of FATHER CRIME.”
