BONES Season Premiere Recap: ‘The Memories in the Shallow Grave’

Hello, BONES fans! If you are like me, you’ve been trying not to judge the BONES season S7 premiere, “The Memories in the Shallow Grave,” as this “thing” that must make all of season 6 “worth it.” That’s not exactly fair, right?
And yet, the writers made some deliberate choices last year that have greatly affected the series — and in the scheme of six seasons of Booth and Brennan circling one another romantically, putting them “together” will result, I believe, in plots that viewers will feel the most passionate about. But will it be passionate love, passionate hate, or passionate indifference? Though the last choice seems like an oxymoron, for some BONES fans, it still fits. Wherever we fall on the “Squee!-to-Screw THIS!” spectrum, I’m guessing we’ll at least have something to talk about. Starting, as always, with…
WAREHOUSE 13 Season Finale Recap: ‘Emily Lake/Stand’

Back in July, Marisa gave us an interview with WAREHOUSE 13 showrunner Jack Kenny, and he told us that the season three finale would be “an earth-shattering event for the warehouse” and he said it was the tightest corner (writing-wise) they’d ever written themselves into. All season long, I’ve had that in mind, wondering what it meant and how it was going to play out. As the season progressed, there have been several interesting plot twists — Steve Jinks’ arrival and departure from the warehouse, HG Wells and her holographic appearances, the introduction of several new villains, and the revelation that Pete’s mother is a Regent to name a few. And as the finale grew closer over the past few days, my curiosity grew. And I must say, Mr. Kenny — well played, well played.
Did you all like this episode? It was two hours long, so there is a lot to discuss! Let’s get to it!
WAREHOUSE 13 Recap: “Shadows”

Hey, WAREHOUSE 13 fans! I’m going to go on record and say this has been my favorite episode so far this season. In “Shadows”, we had a good case, some creative artifacts and some character backstory. But those elements are what make up the “usual” WH13 ep. What made this one above average was the way we received answers. If you’re like me, you’ve had a few questions — who was Sally Stukowski working for, how is it that Pete’s mom is a Regent, and, something I’ve been working for a few seasons now… exactly how old IS Mrs. Frederic?
Why You Should Watch SUITS

Here at GMMR, we feel the pain when, after a new AND good show comes out, the networks give it the quick axe due to low opening ratings (LONE STAR, anyone?). It’s a cutthroat business and sometimes, for me at least, it makes me…skittish. Why invest the time to start a new show (or more specifically, the timeslot) on some of those incredibly — in a good way — busy TV nights only to be stuck with unfinished plots when the show gets canceled, right?
We’ve gotten burned in our relationships with TV sometimes, and for some of us, that makes us more discriminating in our choices. We might wait until a series is completely over and available on DVD before we even start it. Of course at that point, we run the risk of not having anyone to talk to about it. Sidling up to the water cooler at work with a smooth, “Hey, I just caught the LOST pilot — have you seen it?” might not earn you any cool points right now.
It takes some risk — giving new shows a shot and sometimes sticking with them. It takes some luck — how many of us chose CAVEMEN over CHUCK in the fall of 2007? And sometimes it just takes someone you trust saying, “Hey, you should watch this show.”
So take it from me. You should start watching SUITS.
WAREHOUSE 13 Recap: ‘The 40th Floor’

Hey, Warehouse 13 fans! This week’s episode, “The 40th Floor”, was intense from start to finish, right?
One thing I loved about it is that the entire team worked together to solve the same case. It made the episode seem less choppy and more cohesive when it flipped from scene to scene and character to character. Also, since the characters were experiencing (mostly) the same plot, it allowed for good character development–especially for Steve Jinks, who really got to see firsthand how ‘dedicated’ Mrs F is to the warehouse. More on that later.
WAREHOUSE 13 Recap: ‘Past Imperfect’

Sometimes I find it hard to fairly analyze an episode of WAREHOUSE 13. It appeals to a wide audience, and I’m not a sci-fi expert or anything like that, so I realize there might be elements to an episode like “Past Imperfect” that I just don’t “get.” But even beyond all of that, this episode really seemed to fall flat. Thoughts from you? More on this later.
The episode begins at Union Station in Denver where Pete and Myka are attempting to snag a pick axe. While Pete is doing the dirty work, Myka is his back-up. But she gets distracted when she sees Leo — the man responsible for killing her former partner, Sam — at that exact location. You’ll remember that Sam was also her love interest (even though he was married at the time) and she felt responsible for his death. He also appeared to Myka a few times in visions earlier in the series. While Myka is freaking out, Pete is having a reaction to the artifact — gray smoke/dust is escaping from his throat, almost like a tracheal implant.
WAREHOUSE 13 Recap: ‘Don’t Hate the Player’

Hey WAREHOUSE 13 fans! How did you like “Don’t Hate the Player”? I’m honestly not sure how I feel about it, and I’m wondering if it’s the sort of episode where viewers either loved it or hated it.
It’s rare that WH13 can make me think “WTF?” but this one did a few times. It seemed almost too goofy at times, and then it got dark — and fast. However, any main issue I had was countered by the excellent work from Allison Scagliotti (Claudia) throughout the entire episode. Do you agree?
WAREHOUSE 13 Recap: ‘3…2…1’

As TV fans know, show writers have to choose which characters will get the most action, dialogue, screentime etc in a particular episode. This episode, “3, 2, 1,” felt a little light on the modern warehouse agents, and I’m interested in hearing whether or not you liked that. There were three “generations” of warehouse agents represented in this episode: Helena (HG Wells) and her partner Wolcott in 1893, Jack and Rebecca (from 1962, and for us, from season two) and Pete and Myka in the present day.
The episode flashed back and forth (without the use of Wells’ time machine, mind you) between the three couples as they worked to control a high-powered artifact — Joshua’s horn used in the battle of Jericho. I though the mix of settings was really well done, and props to the set design team for their work. In the blink of an eye, 1962 became the present day, and I really loved that.
WAREHOUSE 13: ‘Queen for a Day’

Hey, hey, WAREHOUSE 13 fans! Okay, talk to me — is it just me or does the show have some deep layering action going on this season? Sure, there has always been a nice mix of character work alongside the cases and “artifact of the week” scenarios, but this season, it just feels as if there is more somehow. Thoughts? If you haven’t weighed in on Marisa Roffman’s interview with Joanne Kelly (Myka) on whether or not Pete and Myka should have some romance, be sure to do so.
Even as it seems the writers are at least pushing a little toward the “will they/won’t they” envelope (or again, is that just me?) for Pete and Myka, they are still building a strong foundation of partnership and friendship. Perhaps it will never go beyond those two things — or perhaps the writers are looking to follow other good TV romances and make it so the two lead characters grow so close that they are almost doomed (in a good way) to be together — spoiled for anyone else, so to speak. I’m not sure how I feel about it either way. Maybe it’s just a long, hot summer so far and I’m seeing tension that’s not there. Or maybe it was all of the wedding talk in this week’s case.
WAREHOUSE 13 Recap: ‘Love Sick’

What do you get when you cross WC Field’s Juggling Balls, Marilyn Monroe’s hairbrush and some good old fashioned emotional denial between partners? Pete and a (mysteriously) blond Myka, naked in bed together. As Pete might say, “Say what?” And as anyone who has seen much of WAREHOUSE 13 might say…exactly.
The third offering of season three is just as quirky and deliciously creepy as the other episodes we’ve had so far. And for the first time this summer, the ‘warehouse’ is its own character, so to speak, and we got to see a lot of little artifacts as one offs. But how *exactly* did Pete and Myka end up naked together? And why in Artie’s bed? Before you can say “that’s hot!” or “um, ew!” I should also mention that meanwhile, Claudia and Artie were investigating a horrifyingly diabolical computer virus that causes its victims’ DNA to shift to hard clay substances and diatomaceous earth.
Oh yeah…and Jinksy got bronzed.

WAREHOUSE 13: ‘The New Guy’ Recap

Welcome back, WAREHOUSE 13! It finally feels like summer when WAREHOUSE 13 is back on the air, right? These fall/winter/spring hiatuses are way too long in my book. If you haven’t read Marisa Roffman’s article with Jack Kenny and Aaron Ashmore, be sure to do so. But for now, let’s break down the season premiere!
The episode begins in New Jersey at a Rock & Roll history museum. The building is blocked off because of a potential bomb threat. I expected to see Pete, (possibly even Myka), Claudia and Artie around, but that doesn’t happen at first. As an ATF team prowls the building area, we see one agent hauling a suspect away, and immediately, we’re introduced to the newest character in WH13, Steve Jinks.
DROP DEAD DIVA Discussion: ‘False Alarm’

Hello DROP DEAD DIVA watchers! How are you liking season three so far? I’m curious for your thoughts, because though I liked this episode more than the season premiere, something still feels off. This episode didn’t have any dreams or musical numbers, so I can’t blame those (even though I do like them sometimes), but I just can’t get past the feeling that my discomfort is Jane-related.
Perhaps it’s deliberate and the fact that we’re seeing Jane have to deal with some conflict over Grayson’s upcoming wedding means we have conflict as viewers. But we’ve seen Jane have conflict over Grayson and his love life before, and it didn’t seem as manipulative, I guess? Maybe it’s that Grayson’s really not having any conflict at all with his decision, so it feels like Jane is wasting her time? IS it time for Jane to move on and forget about Grayson? What do you think?
DROP DEAD DIVA Season 3 Premiere Discussion

Hello, DROP DEAD DIVA fans! It’s good to be back talking about our girl Jane and her life!
Season two ended when Grayson asked Jane to be his “best man,” and after she refused, he chased after her and was hit by a car. Season three begins with Jane at the hospital. But in true DDD form, Jane is having a dream. No, she didn’t dream Grayson’s accident — she dreamt that he came back to earth in the bodies of other men. That was pretty clever. But THEN she dreamt a musical number in which male hospital patients had their shirts ripped from them, nurses danced with IV poles, and Grayson pulled her into his arms for a kiss.
Um, what?
BONES Season Finale Recap: ‘The Change in the Game’

Hey, hey, BONES fans! It’s our last chance to talk about season six, and there is quite a bit to discuss.
You know, the titles of these season finale episodes always make me a little wary, and this one, “The Change in the Game” was no different. After all, did we really need ANOTHER change of events? Some people have joked lately that if they hear the word “reset” come out of the mouths (or pens) of the writers, they might scream. So the question remains…is this is a re-set, or is it a shove forward? Or something in between? In my opinion, it’s not exactly a natural course of events for these characters, but that doesn’t necessarily make it unrealistic. More on that later, but first…
