BONES: The Science in the Physicist

Thank you, Milton. Thank you, Jennifer! If I spoke Latin, I’d say this episode was magnificus. I laughed a lot, like season one and season two laughs (ie: Zack: Sometime, when you’re not busy, I wonder if I could ask you a few questions about sexual positions? Booth: If you even try, I will take out my gun and shoot you between the eyes.)
And was that body, if you can even call it that, THE most disgusting one EVER? GAH!
THE CASE:
A premiere physicist’s body is found in garbage bags, and turns out to have been frozen, exploded and also the victim of extreme cancer. An interesting case, and this time I actually felt like the killer was a realistic choice, but I wasn’t sure who it was until the end. Good motives, excellent cast of suspects, all in all a good case. But that body…ugh. The Booth and Brennan stuck in the radiation chamber was awkward, did anyone else think so? But I’m not a complainer. I think what I liked best about this episode was the parallelism between the ‘more than one kind of family’ in the Jeffersonian vs. the cold, and yes, creepy tone of the other science center.
THE SQUINTS:
- Mr. Vincent Nigel Murray: Squintern of the week, #1 in my heart. If he’s not hired on full time as a cast member, I will hire him to hang out with me. MNM was extra Vino-delectable tonight. But my approval means nothing. The person who really MUST approve is….
- Hodgins: Hahaha! The turkey was funny (all I needed was for Booth to be there… “What’s with the turkey, turkeys?”). Experiments = love, and science for the love of discovery is one of the facets of this show I adore. Speaking of Hodgins and adoring…

I think I love the show BONES most for the friendships it showcases. So I’m going to shake up this review a bit, and focus on some of the ‘ships we all love and give a special shout out to Ms. Camille. But first of all…
I think I love the show BONES most for the friendships it showcases. So I’m going to shake up this review a bit, and focus on some of the ‘ships we all love and give a special shout out to Ms. Camille. But first of all…
THE CASE: Brennan and Booth are called to a local reserve where a body has been mangled by wild animals. Totally disgusting, totally BONES (and a Pinky and the Brain reference…canNOT go wrong there, am I right?), and totally within the first few minutes of the episode. But it gets more interesting when the body is revealed to be that of Cam’s former fiancée, Dr. Welton. Suspects include an overinvolved benefactress, a competing hospital admin, a career-jilted silver spooner, and the ex-husband of a woman who died on Dr. W’s operating table. I was surprised by the actual killer. Not sure if that means the writers fooled me, or if they pulled it out of left field as a crappy plot device. Thoughts?
THE ‘SHIPS: First of all, in lieu of a ‘squint’ section…how funny was Clark? Haha. I could have done without Angela’s rambling on and on about him (actually, I could have done without any of Angela’s rambling on in this episode. What has it been, like 0.2 seconds of celibacy? Get over it! Anyways….) Clark was funny, and I liked when he brought his GF in to the lab. What were your thoughts on that hypnosis section? Kind of weird, right? I don’t think I liked it. Felt like a stretch to me, realism wise. And kind of out of character for Sweets, I guess.
- Booth + Brennan:
Not much B+B tonight (but how about next week. Uh, shove me up against the wall, Seeley Booth!), but I actually LOVED that. Evidence, Booth asks Brennan to trust him about something…and she does. Simple as that. Good stuff.
Take 5: The Top 5 ANGEL Episodes

It’s time for another installment of GiveMeMyRemote.com’s Take 5. With Each Take 5, members of Team GMMR pick their five favorite episodes of some of their favorite shows. After sharing their faves, it’s up to YOU to tell us which episodes stand out as some of the best. There are no wrong answers, just a lot of fond memories.
I’m tackling the top five episodes of ANGEL, which was tougher than I thought it would be. But I decided to be a Champion and just go for it.
I’ve decided that since there were five seasons of ANGEL, I’ll choose the top episode from each season.
So raise your goblets of Mountain Dew, and let your old pal SeeleybabyCakes try and do justice to our favorite Vampire and his crew.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Season One: I WILL REMEMBER YOU (1×8)
I want to say straight out, that of all of Angel’s ‘relationships’ with women, Kate was my favorite (Lonely Hearts). So…there you have it. Having said that, I also loved Doyle, and Hero was so close to being my top choice for season one. But…
For my money, this is the episode where Angel became “Angel”, for good or for worse. He has a chance to be with Buffy, for as long as they both shall live, but he gives it up, and therefore accepts his mission as Champion. The moment where he asks her why she never told him about chocolate and peanut butter is heartbreaking to me, more than the part where they decide to turn back time.
Season Two: REDEFINITION (2×11)
This episode is one of the most artistic of the series. David Boreanaz pulls off a great deal of serious acting while the voiceover describes his readiness. And his work out regimen is intense, but when we see all of the action he takes later, we know he was just getting started. But in contrast, almost every other character in the show is grouped with another. Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn, while at the Your browser may not support display of this image.beginning move separate ways, end up together at the end (We are the Champions, a classic), and they agree to continue the mission, with or without Angel. Lindsey and Lilah join forces within and against Wolfram and Hart after surviving the massacre that was Dru and Darla.
But through it all, Angel separates himself to become ready for his mission. And it’s a very cruel Angel we’re seeing here, although Darla tells Dru he’s not Angel or Angelus. All in all, it’s a defining, or ‘re’-defining episode of the series.
BONES: The Salt in the Wounds
Why does FOX hate BONES? Am I being too sensitive? Are other shows being pre-empted for American Idol all the time, and I just don’t notice it? Either way, I’m annoyed. What happened to 11 new episodes in a row, hmmm? And do NOT even get me started on the Ausiello spoiling nonsense.
Deep breath in (Booth in the bathtub)
Deep breath out (Booth at the shooting range)
Deep breath in (“That’s a lot of heart, Bones”)
Deep breath out (“Everything happens eventually”)
Ah, okay…that’s a bit better. But before, I was literally typing and just about hyperventilating (typerventilating?) over all of it.
Talk about salt in an open wound (hey, see how I did that?)
The Case:
A high school girls’ volleyball team gets pregnant. How might that happen? Well, it’s up to Booth and Brennan to figure that one out. But it starts that one of the players is found dead. So B+B travel to the high school and interrogate. There were a lot of suspects, including “The KID”, and once again the body was gross but took a backseat to the relationships on the show.
BONES: The Bones That Foam
Trust BONES to have the line “Everyone knows you don’t touch the monkey” and have it be about an ACTUAL monkey. And here’s the thing. I love the show, BONES. There has been a lot of criticism of the episodes this season (and some from me, I admit), but I really do love it. Cheers to David Boreanaz for a very smooth BONES directorial debut, and I was pleased that DB wasn’t absent from this episode. But I was the most pleased with the way the entire cast was used in the episode.
THE CASE:
A bungee-jumping bride and groom see a decomposing body (very gross…maybe one of the grossest ever in four seasons, what say you?), but when the team gets it back to the lab, there are a few complications. Namely that the bones are foaming, and, all of the evidence is evaporating, and, the alarms keep going off. So yeah, complications. Meanwhile, Booth and Brennan have to dig deep into the world of car salesmen to try and crack this case. I liked this case; I thought it was pretty creative. Oh, and did I mention the victim’s remains ALSO caught on fire?
THE SQUINTS:
- Mr. Nigel Murray: I love him. I really do. I love his facts and brains and accent, and I just think he’s great. Tonight was no different.
- Hodgins: He’s the undisputed King of the Lab. Was this episode super sciencey or what? Just like I like it, and Hodgins didn’t disappoint. I LOVED when he and MNM were trying to let Cam let them get the body out of the plastic tube thing.
BONES TV Guide Cover – He’s Just That Into Her
The following contains spoilers for BONES. Stop reading if you are a spoilertarian.
“Do you know how naked you’ll be?”
“They’ll both have happy endings?”
“You think I’m going to be pricked?”
Score one for TVGUIDE, for getting to hang out with Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, and cheers to those two for getting to be on the TV GUIDE cover. If you get the chance, you should totally check it out on your local newsstand! The cover is fresh and fun, and inside there is a great article on the eventual (read: season four finale) hook to the up between Booth and Brennan. (And find out just what the quotes above are all about).
Deschanel and Boreanaz are fun, and they describe how they think ‘it’s’ finally going to happen (think…”Lady and the Tramp”), and we find out once and for all which side of the bed each sleeps on.
So go check it out, and in the meantime, set your clocks for 8 PM, next Thursday night, when BONES is back with an all-new episode, “The Bones that Foam”, directed by David Boreanaz himself.
Chivalry is not dead; it just hurt its back a little, that’s all.
Well, there are no more BONES episodes for three more weeks, so we’ve got to make this review count! I want some great comments from all over the world! I know you’re reading, so let me know what you think. And let us know where you’re watching from, too.
Anyways…I’ve got some questions for you. But first of all, before any rumors get started that David Boreanaz is backing out of the show, do not worry. He just took it easy on the acting bit to prepare for the episode he directed. And as a total side bonus, we got to see Booth in his boxers and find out that he thinks the furniture feels friendly.
The Quest:
A ‘booth babe’ from Imagicon is found dead by some RPG-ing kiddos. She’s the part-time owner of a most coveted Arthurian sword, the official Excalibur prop from le Morte d’Arthur, and there are many who would kill for such a treasure. And when there are a lot of suspects, I’m happy.
BONES: The Hero in the Hold
Well, I stand corrected. Booth loves Brennan. I know last time I said I thought maybe he was over her, but…I was wrong. Of course he didn’t tell her (what’s so hard about that?), but didn’t you just have the feeling at the beginning of the episode that it was going to be THE NIGHT!?!?
Stupid gravedigger.
The Case:
On a night where Brennan is going to be honored as a supreme scientist, Booth is captured by the gravedigger. If you remember from season two, this guy’s (or actually gal’s) modus operandi is to use a stun gun, then capture a person, force them into a closed space and then call in for a ransom. Except this time, the ransom was evidence, stolen by Hodgins. But what is the best course of action? Hand over the evidence and save Booth? Or try and both capture the Gravedigger AND save Booth? It’s Brennan’s conundrum.
The Squints:
- Sweets: Sweets was fine this episode, although a little cold, it seemed. But he wasn’t over analyzing all of Brennan’s minute actions, so I was fine with that.
- Cam: I thought Cam would be a little more worried about Booth. They’re close, and while she often is a controlling force on the team, I didn’t sense her urgency. That could have been a nice moment for her, but instead she just followed. Ah, oh well. It’s not her fault the writer’s give her NOTHING!
BONES is Back…It’s About Time
Seeleybaby is back and taking care of BONES for us. Make sure you show her the love as she covered not one but two episodes last night. First up is “Double Trouble in the Panhandle” and then “Fire in the Ice”. Welcome back Seeleybaby and GMMR’s BONES fans.
Double Trouble in the Panhandle
It’s good to be back with BONES, isn’t it? I have to admit, I cringed a few times thinking about what this episode would be like, but I was pleasantly surprised. And I think I might be slightly in like with Mr. Vincent Nigel-Murray. But let’s talk about the episode. As Wanda Moosejaw would say, “prepare to be amazed”.
THE CASE:
The skeletons of conjoined twins, Julie and Jenny are found, and Booth and Brennan eagerly go undercover to determine how they were murdered. I thought it was going to be the doctor. Yikes.
THE SQUINTS:
- Cam:When Cam is having fun, she is fun. When she is annoyed, I find her annoying. She was good this episode, and I loved her interaction with my man Vinnie, and I loved her excitement about the webcam.
- Angela: She was good and artsy in the ep, and I liked how she created the scenarios for possible deaths. Is it just me, or does it seem like Angela has backed off on the B+B stuff? This episode was ripe with opportunity, but she didn’t really see it. Hmm…come on, Ange…we need you! How else is Brennan going to catch up to her own reality?
- Hodgins: Once he got the image out of his head, he was fairly useful to the case. Or did he actually ever get the image out of his head? Hard to tell.
- Sweets: Sweets was adopted. I don’t think we knew that. He also has a wealth of knowledge about carnival life. But I really wish he would stop stating the obvious. Which really means I wish the writers would stop having him state the total obvious, especially when it comes to Booth and Brennan.
- Mr. Vincent Nigel-Murray: What can I say? I want him to live near me. I want him to spout off fun facts all the time. I loved it. If we’re choosing faves for squint of the week, he’s absolutely my number once choice. I loved when he thanked Angela ‘ever so much’ for the question.
Angel vs. Booth: The Great Boreanaz Debate Results Show
October 30, 2008 by Sarah Curtis
Wow, wow, wow. First of all, you are all the shiz. You really are. But you know, you’re also kind of easy. Who knew that a couple of pics of DB shirtless would get you all warmed up enough to post your heartfelt emotions?
But, you’re here for the results of “Angel vs. Booth: The Great Boreanaz Debate“, posted just about two weeks ago on GMMR . I want to say that I was so happy with everyone’s answers. And I laughed a lot as I tallied them up for you. I also told myself I would allow myself one ‘over rule’. If I thought you all were wrong, I was going to trump you, but only once. Keep reading to see if I needed to use it.
If you remember, we asked you to choose between two of David Boreanaz’s most memorable characters, Angel (from BUFFY and ANGEL) or Booth (from BONES), in each of the categories below. The response was great and we especially loved those of you who backed up your votes with examples.
We’re breaking it down Dr. Jack style. Here are your results.
1. Is more able to rally a team together:
Over two-thirds of you said Booth, and I’m cool with that. Angel was a loner, and he was lucky that his team wouldn’t let him shake them. With Booth, he cuts through the rationalities of the squint squad and forces heart onto them. And solves crimes in the process. EDGE: Booth
2. Has better moments of unleashed power:
To quote ‘Taz’… “Angel. Um, hello…vampire!” Haha, that made me laugh. And most of you agreed. Honorable mention to Booth vs. Vega. EDGE: Angel
Angel vs. Booth – The Great Boreanaz Debate
Filed under Bones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
There wasn’t a new Bones episode this week so we’re going to take the opportunity to discuss a very important matter. Namely – ANGEL vs. BOOTH.
I’ve heard that David Boreanaz doesn’t really like talking about his flair, but I have no problem doing it, and I hope you don’t either, because this one is going to take a lot of audience participation.
Here’s your task…
Check out the categories below. For each one choose ANGEL or BOOTH. Think you can handle it? Like good quiz takers (and David Boreanaz fans) I’m hoping you will use the comments to note only vote but plead your case by providing some good examples. Make sense?
You have until 8:00 PM EST on Wednesday, October 22nd to respond, and over the week, I’ll tally the responses and post the results on the 23rd.
Okay…here we go…
Between Angel and Booth, which one…
1. Is more able to rally a team together?
2. Has better moments of unleashed power? (feel free to give an example)
3. Has performed the best rescue?
4. Is a better father?
5. Has had a better hair evolution?
6. Is more loyal?
7. Has the best moment of dialogue? (and what is it?)
8. Faces the more seemingly impossible love?
9. Has the more tortured past?
10. Is more vulnerable (in a good way)?
11. Is more capable of overcoming great weakness?
12. Looks better in his gratuitous bare-chested scene?
Answer below and check back next week for the results!
