BONES Recap: ‘The Gunk in the Garage’

Hey, BONES fans! How did you like this episode, “The Gunk in the Garage”? I’m no squint, but Brennan wearing that trenchcoat again leads me to believe this is one of our four bonus episodes of the season. I thought it was more filler than bonus, but I did like a lot about the ep, and there is a lot to talk about. But first, please tell me I’m not the only one who got a little nervous seeing Brennan and Hodgins alone together in the parking garage. Right? It’s a good thing the Gravedigger is dead…that’s all I’m saying!
BONES Recap: ‘The Partners in the Divorce’

Hey BONES fans! You know, I was thinking after the premiere that Booth has a tendency to use sex/affection to gloss over tough situations. Of course, in season 6, I happily attributed it to the fact that his relationship with Hannah was mostly physical…but now in season “washing machine sex” 8, I want it to be because he loves Brennan a lot. Hypocritical, I know, but there it is! This isn’t a knock on Booth at all — I think touch is one of his “love languages,” so he’s being genuine with his affection. Likewise, I thought his “I was hoping it would be [okay] in the future” line spoke volumes about his normal way of processing tough stuff, yeah? And Brennan’s fierce passion for truth vs. politeness there also rang true. But…I’m getting ahead of myself. First, let’s talk about the rest of the episode!
BONES Season Premiere Recap: ‘The Future in the Past’

Hey BONES fans! How did you like the S8 premiere, “The Future in the Past”? Show creator Hart Hanson kept up his informal tradition of making the season finale and subsequent season premiere a two-part episode, so to speak, and he did a nice job co-writing this one with co-executive producer Stephen Nathan. This episode wasn’t perfect by any means, but for the most part, the pacing, plot and characterization were good. So let’s discuss!
AWKWARD Recap: ‘Homewrecker Hamilton’

Oh, my poor Matty/Jake loving heart! This episode of AWKWARD certainly delivered in terms of keeping the intensity of the past two episodes.
It starts out at Kevin’s apartment, where Jenna is still trying to figure out why Jake broke up with her. I have to admit that I found this a little hard to believe, considering Jenna had spent most of their relationship keeping her previous relationship with Matty a secret. Not that Jenna needed to immediately think that might be what Jake is upset about, but you’d think it would at least cross her mind. But it doesn’t; not until she accidentally sends Jake a text asking “why,” and he replies back with a picture of her and Matty in her bed and the words “you’re a cheater.” Ouch.

Comments Off on AWKWARD. Recap: ‘Another One Bites the Dust’
Ah, it was only a matter of time until Jake found out about Jenna and Matty, right. And, AWKWARD. fans, did you predict it would eventually be Sadie who spilled the beans? I can’t say I was surprised, but even as it happened, I was groaning with the ironic dread.
Of course, it’s also clear now why, plot-wise, Jenna was sort of dragging her feet regarding Jake. And OF COURSE Matty now actually probably likes Courtney. And OF COURSE Jenna has declared her love for Jake. Because it would just be too easy for the entire love triangle to play out nicely instead of going up in flames.
AWKWARD Recap: My Love is a Black Heart

Hey AWKWARD fans! Sorry I missed the recap last week. Feel free to discuss that episode and Jenna’s church camp woes in the comments if you want to. As for this episode, “My Love is a Black Heart”, the show continues to inch its way through the school year–the premiere featured Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and now we’re up to Valentine’s Day.
Love is in the air, and like always, Jenna is trying to figure out her new relationship with Jake with her old relationship with Matty. To make things worse, Matty seems to be actively interested in the freshman blonde he sniffed his pits to in last week’s episode.
In this episode, Jenna was somewhat self-centered. She wasn’t selfish necessarily, but she assumed that most of what went on was about her. When Matty approached her and wanted advice on the perfect date, Jenna thought Jake had sent him over for some intel. Oh, Jenna. No.

AWKWARD. Catch-Up: What You Need to Know to Watch Season 2!

High school. Some of us are blocking out the memories, and for others of us, it is/was the best days of our lives. TV doesn’t always get it right when it comes to portraying those teenage years , but MTV’s AWKWARD. hits a lot of the right notes. It’s funny and doesn’t stray into preachy or ridiculous territory (looking at you, GLEE!), but most of all, the show’s characters are fairly well rounded.
So what do you need to know?
DROP DEAD DIVA: Carter MacIntyre on Playing the ‘Devilish’ New Guardian Angel, Luke

Hey, DROP DEAD DIVA fans! Did you watch the season 4 premiere? If so, you may have been as surprised as I was that resident guardian angel Fred has been replaced.
Yes, there’s a new guardian angel in Jane’s life, and his name is Luke Daniels. Played by Carter MacIntyre, Luke’s persona is more devilish than angelic, and that’s just one thing that MacIntyre likes about the character. Carter participated in a conference call with reporters recently and answered a few questions about this season and how he sees Luke’s character affecting Jane and the rest of the team.

Hey BONES fans! It’s hard to believe this season is over, and wow — what a finale! I loved “Crack in the Code” earlier in 2012, and this episode “The Past in the Present,” directed so keenly by David Boreanaz, kept it up nicely. There is SO MUCH to discuss, and I know I won’t cover everything. But let’s at least give it a shot!
THE FINDER Series Finale Recap: ‘The Boy with the Bucket’

Well, dang! When I’m thinking of watching a TV show again, for me it’s always “Do I want/need to know more?” And while this season of THE FINDER has been up and down for me, when the final scenes were occurring — starting at the moment where Walter emotionally said goodbye to his father and ending with the final black screen – I kept thinking, I want more.
As you probably know, THE FINDER has officially been cancelled by Fox (details on this and other Fox cancellations/renewals found here), so there won’t be any more knowing, which is a bummer. I have to say though, Fox, if you are reading this, running an ad for THE CHOICE a new reality show you have on the books, during the closing credits of a show you’ve just cancelled seems cruel. WTF? Enough of that, let’s discuss the episode.
BONES Recap: ‘The Suit on the Set’

Hey, BONES fans! You know how sometimes, you go to a local play — maybe a high school musical or something like that, and the actors toss in a cheesy inside joke? It might be a little bit funny, especially to a select few in the audience, but it’s also almost immature in its indulgency? That is how a lot of this episode felt for me. Some might say that a show in its seventh season deserves to be so self-indulgent, and I’m not saying I didn’t laugh a couple of times, but it just didn’t do much for me. BONES creator Hart Hanson tweeted and called it a “tip-of-the-hat to the super fan”, and from what I’ve seen, many, many people enjoyed it. So with that, let’s discuss!
BONES Recap: ‘The Family in the Feud’
May 1, 2012 by Sarah Curtis
Hey, BONES fans! How did you like this episode, “The Family in the Feud”? Once again the theme of the case overlapped into the family drama. There is a lot to discuss, so let’s get to it.
THE CASE:
The Scene of the Crime: While truffle hunting, a man comes upon a skeleton perched against some tree branches. Booth and Brennan and Hodgins arrive to the scene, where Brennan determines the victim is male and near 80 years old. There is quite a bit of dried blood on his clothing and his overalls were caught in tree branches.
The Victim: Tug Babcock, oldest living member of the Babcock family, currently in a feud with the Mobley family. The feud between the families goes back to the 1890s, when Carlene Babcock married Stonewall Mobley. Legend has it that Carlene killed Stonewall and stole his land. When she ended up dead as well, the families have been fighting over the land ever since. As the case continues, the team realizes that Tug had stage four bone cancer and only a few weeks to live.
Potential Suspects and Motives: Booth talks to Tug’s family — his son Ephraim, his wife Claire (a lawyer) and their son, Junior. Claire makes it clear that she doesn’t like hunting, especially not for food. They tell Booth to question the Mobleys, and so Booth and Brennan make their way to the rival family’s land.
On that property, Norbert Mobley takes a gun to Booth (and is soundly beaten at his own game…well done Booth!), and once he’s restrained, Brennan asks for the full history of the feud. He is glad to hear Tug is dead but can’t take credit for the kill. When asked why he’s walking around his property with a rifle, he says it’s because people have been digging holes in his land at night.
When Hodgins discovers the land is embedded with a vein of copper, the pool of suspects grows larger. Dennis Timmons has an agreement with Tug that he can mine the land, once Tug is dead. Sweets questions him, and while he admits he was sneaking on the land and night and that his company is bankrupt, he insists he didn’t kill Tug. He says there is a young blonde woman sneaking around the land at night too.
Booth follows that lead and meets SueBob Mobley. He threatens to take her in for murder, but she confesses that the reason she was on the property is because she and Junior are in love. Meanwhile, the Jeffersonian team figures out that the bullet used to kill Tug was embedded with Stonewall Mobley’s bone fragments.
The Verdict: Booth questions Junior, who has Claire alongside as his legal counsel. Junior says that Tug wanted to end the feud and supported his love for SueBob. Claire is horrified, but Junior insists Tug even gave him money to buy a ring for SueBob. Sweets suggests to Booth that Claire is a good suspect, since she has the most to lose financially. She denies that she was in the woods, but Hodgins is able to analyze her clothing and once it’s clear she was, she confesses that she just wanted a little more time to make more money from the feuding families’ lawsuits.
THE SQUINTS:
Well, I won’t clog up this review with more Daisy-hate, except to say this — she often brings out the worst qualities in people. That it’s not just one person this happens with makes her the suspect there, I think. But truly, she egged Brennan and Cam on toward unnecessary competition (not that those two don’t compete on their own), passive-aggressively taunted Hodgins regarding his truffles and patronized Angela about her work on the case. I think Daisy also brings out the worst in Sweets, but then again, he was doing enough on his own on that front, pestering Booth about the Christine childcare situation with Brennan and Max. To Sweets’ credit, he did correctly identify the murderer.
What did you think about Cam’s insistence that she was victorious in the lab over Daisy? Also, last week there were mixed feelings about Hodgins and his zealousness regarding the lab equipment. Did you have the same reaction to him and the truffles this week? And what are your thoughts on the Brennan/Angela/Cam conversation at the lab where both women tried to convince Brennan to forgive Max? I was torn because I love Brennan, and I thought Angela and Cam were kind of flippant about it, but on the other hand, I believed Max too.
One of my favorite moments of the episode came courtesy of Caroline Julian, when she all but promised to kiss Booth if he solved the case. Um, Caroline, when he’s wearing that holster and solving crimes, we all want to kiss him.
BOOTH & BRENNAN:
After Christine is expelled from the daycare (because of how much Brennan cares for their daughter, Booth smiles sarcastically), Booth and Brennan are forced to consider alternate childcare for her. Brennan has worked her way through a couple of nanny agencies as well as some doctoral candidates, but none are good enough. Booth tells her he’s going to take care of it, and she balks at first but eventually tells him that she trusts him.
But she wavers when she finds out that Booth has enlisted Max to babysit Christine. This brings up fear and memories of the past for Brennan. Booth asks her to give Max a shot, and she agrees, but when she tries to call him several times, and she doesn’t answer, she calls a halt to the experiment and tells Max to leave.
The relationship between Max and Brennan has always been a fascinating one. We’ve seen that Brennan likes to be in control of it, allowing him into her life when she can handle it. That sounds cold, but we know she isn’t cold. She might be reserved, but she does love him and accepts his love, and it has worked for them, until now.
I liked Brennan’s honest emotions of fear and sadness at her reaction to Max — when he said he thought she hadn’t called him because she trusted him but that he wouldn’t make the same mistake twice, I teared up and I loved that Brennan didn’t want it to be that way. I loved the way they reconciled at the end, and I think it’s important that Max is the one who showed up to apologize again.
I think Booth has had a long history of sort of pushing Brennan toward Max and family reconciliation (while resisting his own family sometimes, but that is another story!), so it didn’t surprise me that he did that in this episode too. What do you think? Did he overstep his bounds or did he do the right thing?
Enough from me; it’s time for you to weigh in. Were you surprised by the killer? Did you like the Booth/Brennan/Max/Christine storyline? The comments are open, so sound off!
