Early Screening – Watch the NURSE JACKIE Premiere Right Here
May 29, 2009 by Kath Skerry
I know it’s a bit early in the summer to make this kind of declaration, but I think I’ve found the best new show you’re going to watch all summer. NURSE JACKIE doesn’t premiere on Showtime until June 8th but you can get an early look at the first episode in its entirety right here on GiveMeMyRemote.com – just hit play on the video below.
Edie Falco stars as Jackie Peyton, an ER nurse who lets nothing stand in her way of caring for her patients. She doesn’t care what rules she has to break or what red tape she needs to bust through to make sure the people in her care are getting exactly what they deserve. Most of the time Jackie’s patients are better off under her care, but it’s better to be one of the good guys…trust me. You don’t want to cross Jackie Peyton.
Jackie is both the angel and the devil on her own shoulders. Her heart guides her to do good, but her demons ofter take her off the path of what is right. This juxtaposition of intent makes for some truly dark comedic moments. But no matter how bizarre the scenario, Jackie just takes what’s coming at her. She’s seen it all. She’s not surprised by much. Ok, maybe sexual tourettes might throw her a bit, but she’s only human. And if things get too bad, there’s always her prescription drug addiction to help.
Falco gets completely lost in the role of Jackie Peyton. I was worried that I’d only see Carmela Soprano on the screen, but that was never an issue. Falco is so good that we all might be talking about Nurse Jackie as her premiere role at the end of all this. I think we’ll certainly be talking about her come awards season. I don’t know if the script was written with her in mind but it might as well have been. She’s tremendous
The rest of the cast which includes Peter Facinelli, Eve Best, Merrit Wever, Haaz Sleiman, and Paul Schulze help to bring out the shades of gray in Jackie Peyton. As her colleagues, her friends, and her lover, each only see a small glimpse into the true Jackie. She’s seemingly concealed enough of herself to keep anyone from ever getting too close and knowing the demons she fights.
People are going to be talking about this show, so don’t miss NURSE JACKIE. Mondays at 10:30pm on Showtime starting June 8th.

[…] the whole story on Give Me My Remote Share and […]
I wanted to like Nurse Jackie and there are aspects that I like – I like how she acts and feels like the “justice” in the hospital. I like the blatant drug use because I know it’s going to bite her in the end (i.e. House) and for some reason, those make compelling stories. I also like the older nurse training the younger nurse routine.
But overall, the story lacks something. I don’t think it’s Edie Falco, though she is hit or miss. I hate the “sleeping with the doctor, married to a guy” storyline. Hate it. I found myself pausing more often than I would for a show I like to do other things. I think I need some water. Pause. I’m hungry, what do I have to eat? Pause. And too many pauses in a 30 minute show is not a good thing.
Don’t get me wrong. I’ll watch past the first couple of episodes, maybe all of them, but if the pilot is an example of the rest, I’m only going to enjoy segments.
As an ER, RN i feel the show didn’t depict a good picture of a good nurse. Watching sex, drug use and infidelity wasn’t what i expected. nurses across the world are not recognized for their hard work and skills. i would rather they show give us some recognition for a change. i will be watching Jada Pincketts Hawthorne instead. I love Edie but i cant do it.

because a tv show (based on a fictional character) shares your profession, why do you expect it to mirror YOUR nursing life or depict NURSING in any realistic shape at all ?? IT’S A FICTIONAL TELEVISION series that doesn’t claim to be ANYTHING BUT !!
🙂
Ps. I’ve enjoyed the 1st 5 episodes (thank you internet !)
I find the reality of this show refreshing, she knows what she’
s doing, even if she’s screwing around a little
