GREEK Rush Week Begins Today: Watch, Read, Enter to Win!

I hope you’re all well rested and ready for the week ahead. It’s GREEK Rush Week here on GiveMeMyRemote.com. You’ve seen me blog about it, heard me gush over it and now it’s time that we get down to business to making YOU a fan of ABC Family’s GREEK. By the end of this week, it’s my goal to have a few of you pledging a new frat or sorority house. Not sure which one? Don’t worry, by the end of this week you’ll know all about the ZBZ’s (ΖΒΖ), Kappa Tau’s (ΚΤΓ) and Omega Chi’s (ΩΧΔ). You’ll want to pledge with the best of the best or else you’ll end as a Tri Pi or Lamda Sig. (Shudder…)
In the name of all things GREEK let’s get the party started.
Tomorrow, on Day 2 of GREEK Rush Week, the syllabus will include the basics of Greek life at Campus Rhodes and more importantly who you need to know to get ahead on Greek row. But today I think we should start with a history lesson. It’s important that we hear from those already in the GREEK system, your future frat brothers and sorority sisters if you will.
Today’s assignment will be to read the comments and listen to other GMMR readers who have already gone GREEK. See newbies, you get off easy. It’s the alums that have to do the work today. So let’s step out of the shadows GREEK fans and leave a comment telling other why they should be watching GREEK. Just by doing so you’ll be entered to win a great GREEK prize pack.

I love Greek because it does a surprisingly good job of showing how different people navigate college life. People should watch because for such a quick, funny show, the characters are really well-drawn and interesting.
First How I Met Your Mother, then Friday Night Lights, now you’re tempting me to fall in love with GREEK? There’s only so much time in a day! But this campaign is a damn good endorsement. I think I’ll netflix it tonight.
I just recently started GREEK, but I’m absolutely hooked! I love how smart and witty Cappie is!
I love Greek because its a very witty show with snappy dialouge.
I started watching Greek in season two, and I’m so glad I did. I thought the show was going to be lame, but every week it proves me wrong. The writing is surprisingly witty and not predictable. Plus, who doesn’t want some Cappy?
I like Greek because it reminds me of my time in college, well the non soroity parts do. It also diplays how I imagine it would have been to be in a sorority. It’s also amazing to me that it is on ABC Family. This is a show that I think could (and maybe should) be on a mojor network. It has great, witty dialouge. The characters aren’t just one dimensional, they have depth (well most do) and that makes me invested in them.

During my sophmore year of college, my friends loved this show. I finally caught on to it after the first season aired, when a couple episodes were offered free on iTunes. I was hooked instantly. The show is hilarious – great dialogue, interesting character storylines and relationships. And every girl’s secret reason to watch (ok, not so secret) – Cappie. You just can’t watch once you see that boy for the first time in the bar, strutting about shirtless with a cowboy hat at Dobbler’s…but really, the show does a great job of showing some of the various aspects to college life while keeping the relationships and stories realistic.
Oh man, I think I know what show I’m going to start rewatching this week.
Ack, I meant you just can’t NOT watch once you see Cappie. See? Just thinking about it got me all flustered that I forgot words. He’s THAT good.
People should watch Greek for the same reason I do: the phenomenal characters. They’re interesting, likable and incredibly entertaining. Plus everybody needs to see the hotness that is Cappie 🙂
I like Greek because it’s fun and mindless. Sometimes you just want to have some fun watching a show. Greek is that show, it’s just fun!
How could you NOT like this show?! I dare anyone to watch it once and not want to watch more!
I will admit it: I was one of the non-believers. When Greek first came out I sneered with others at another feel-good ABC Family fluff piece, but one episode and I was hooked.
With characters that you can’t help but care about and become invested in their future, Greek is a show that creates a very real sense of the college experience. It has its moments of cheesiness but maybe that’s what makes me love it more.
It’s a show that never fails to make me smile, cringe, and cry. It’s become a can’t miss show. I can’t wait for August 31st to get the next chapter of Greek!
I think Greek has one of the best young ensemble casts on TV… Gossip who? For me, this show has never taken a wrong step, and as someone metioned above, it’s refreshingly honest about about that stage in life without slipping too much into the absurd.
Oh yeah, and Cappy…
What got me interested in Greek was all the talk I kept hearing about this Cappie person. What got me hooked on Greek was the writing. This is not just another mindless teen show where all the kids do is party. There have been multiple times when the actual education the kids are getting plays a major role. I find that refreshing as a college student myself.
Plus, you know, there’s Cappie. 🙂
I love this show because it’s current and hysterical. I am especially loving Cappie and am a little worried what will happen when he has to graduate…. maybe he’ll go to grad school.
You should watch this show because it’s awesome -the writing is great and the characteres will crack you up!
Greek is great! The pop culture references keep me coming back week after week. And, of course, Cappie.
My favorite part: a few lines between Casey and her brother Rusty, as he was seeking her help because he wasn’t fitting in with his pledge brothers:
Rusty: “Right now it’s like we’re a boy band and I’m the fat one.”
Casey: “It’s pronounced Fatone.”
I’ve been watching Greek since it first aired and I have not stopped loving it.
I love it for most of the reasons already said: it’s a really honest portrayal of college life, and I too was shocked at how much they get away with saying on ABC family. I really love the pop-culture references, it adds to the “reality” of it all … as me and my friends usually reference the same kinds of stuff. And I love the characters, they’re really relatable and I like that they’re all flawed … no one is perfect.
I was really happy when you finally jumped on the GREEK train Kath, because that’s just one more show I love that is covered on this blog.
One thing that I love about Greek is that it’s the first show I’ve seen where the college setting actually works. We’ve all seen high school shows, and shows with characters just out of college, but it never seems to work when the show is set at a college. Greek is completely different. It’s well-written, it’s intriguing, and it has unique characters.
Oh, and Cappie. Did I mention Cappie?
Greek is a show I got into recently after listening to tv talk with ducky and gmmr. It is a funny and heartwarming show that gives a great representation not only of the Greek system but college in general. It is a great mixture of comedy and drama that deals with real issues. And let’s face it, ths show us the awesomeness that is kappie
I love Greek. It reminds me so much of the fun college days. And the pop culture references are almost as good as Gilmore Girls. That’s saying a lot!!!!
I’m not sure where to start on why I enjoy Greek so much. Everyone talks about how great Cappie is, but Dale, Ashley and Rebecca also deserve some love. Dale alone is fantastic. The pop culture references are great, the comedy is great, and you actually care about these people. The characters are by and large well-rounded, and everything feels like a fresh take on college drama. Also, I like that the cast is so diverse.
I’ve so far only seen the first chapter, but I totally love the easy banter between Cappie and Rusty. It’s brilliant. Rusty also kind of reminds me of myself, because I’m in college now, and when he has a little victory I’m so proud of him!
The person who absolutely kills me whenever he is on screen, though, is Rusty’s roommate Dale. I’ve never laughed as hard as when his band “Darwin Lied” performed a song about sinners going to hell.
Every episode I watch of Greek is one of the most fun hours I can possibly spend watching anything. I’m so glad GMMR and so many other bloggers have raved about it, or I might never have tried it and totally missed out.
CAPPIE! One of my TV boyfriends. I love the witty writing and pop culture references. The supporting cast is also great, especially Dale and Beaver. I also love the budding bromance between Cappie and Dale.
I, like GMMR, missed the Greek bandwagon initially. A few weeks ago, I had a couple days off work and had just listened to The TV Talk Podcast, so I decided to pick up the first set of DVDs for Greek. To my surprise, I was absolutely hooked after just one episode! The characters are very realistic and make me miss my own college years. I love every character and couldn’t be happier that I started with this show. Anyone who loves a good character driven comedy/drama should check this out. With episodes free on Hulu, there is no excuse for not checking out at least one episode!
I’ve never seen the show GREEK, so if I win this would be the perfect opportunity for me to catch up. I really enjoyed my college years so, I think I’d really enjoy the show too.
I started watching Greek because I was about to go to college, and shows that showcase setting that really interested me. Although Greek is nothing like my actual college life, I stuck around because I love the relationships and interactions between the characters, romantic or otherwise. Plus, how can you not just LOVE Cappie?!?! Now it’s one of my favorite shows, and I agonize over the fact that it’s on at the same time as HIMYM. Thank God for dual-tuner DVRs!
I’m interested to see the show because you blog/tweet about it constantly. IT sounds like a great show and something I would love to watch..I just feel it’ll be too hard to get caught up. Any suggestions?

Strunkette and others. I watched 2 seasons in seven days. You have an entire month to watch. You can do it!!
Ha! I was quoted, love it! Do I get extra points for sending the first season DVD to my best friend in Jersey who is now, in her words, “obsessed” with GREEK?? She’s on her way this week to pick up S2. I told her she has to be all caught up by August 31st. So I’m sending her this page and every GREEK page during RUSH WEEK to get her even more into the show.
Now, on to standard comments of the show – I truly adore this show! The writing is razor sharp and smart. It is hard for many shows to make you hate someone in the beginning then make you love them down the road and vice versa (cough – Gossip Girl’s Serena was a lame bad girl – cough). The evolution of every character makes sense and flows instead of being a ridiculous 180 that came out of nowhere. The pop culture references are hilarious. How could I not fall for Cappie after he said, “We’re all thinking the same thing: How could they cancel Gilmore Girls?!” The delivery of that line is embedded in my brain. The acting and writing is high-caliber for a show that is about college students and that is on ABC Family (I’m sorry Secret Life, but your dialogue is horrific!).
I’ve been a fan since day one and I don’t ever want to stop. This show isn’t a guilty pleasure, it’s just pure pleasure, period! There are very few shows out there that are just entertaining and leave you satisfied at the end of the hour. No head tricks, no complications, no preaching (except from Dale! haha) but just a fun series to watch.
One of my fave pop culture references from Season 2 is a bit of an ouch!!
Cappie: Classes don’t start for a week That’s an entire week of eating, sleeping, drinking beer, watching the entire series of “Full House on DVD.”
Casey: That’s all you did all summer?
Cappie: Of course not, I also watched Jon & Kate Plus 8. It’s amazing how they make it all work.
After hearing so many gushing remarks about Greek here on GMMR and the TV Talk Podcast, I finally think I’m ready to make the leap into Greek. I’ve resisted so far simply because it was on ABC Family, but everything I’ve read has convinced me to give it a shot. I’m hoping it will be an experience just like How I Met Your Mother and Supernatural–two shows that I had never seen until this summer but have since devoured every delicious episode of.
Plus I’ll admit to quite an interest into what makes this Cappie fellow I keep hearing about so special–aside from a certain easiness on the eyes that I’ve noticed from pictures. 🙂 I’m off to watch the pilot!

Seen every episode. It will remind you of your college days. If you were Greek in undergrad, you’ll miss it. If you weren’t, you’ll get a pretty good experience of what it was like for us who were, so feel free to vicariously live through Cappie and Rusty.
Unlike on other shows w/ young, pretty people ::cough:: Gossip Girl ::cough::, the kids on Greek actually behave like kids. Let’s face it, besides some rare moments of insight, we’re all still fairly immature in college. I >3 watching them, rather realistically, make mistakes & learn from them, w/o ever taking themselves too seriously.
True story. I was walking through my university residence doing rounds (I’m an RA), and I walked into the room of a fellow RA. I saw that she was watching something, but she seemed to be almost trying to distract my attention away from the screen. Being the television nut that I am, “Whatcha watchin’?” was my first question, and she sheepishly answered, after a sigh and a pause, “Greek.”
Now, I’m known for being a critical viewer of television, so I understand her reaction. However, I immediately let her know that I would never in a million years judge her for Greek. This isn’t even a show that’s a guilty pleasure, as there isn’t anything to be guilty of: it’s well-acted, balances comedy and drama, and features some really well-written characters who are placed into, for the most part, realistic situations that feel neither preachy nor sensationalized.
There is some element of Greek, I feel, that everyone can relate to. For those who are looking for a college drama of love triangles and interpersonal conflict, the show delivers with a diverse range of pairings that the show has gotten considerable mileage out of. However, if you’re like me and wish that Casey would swear off men altogether so that the show’s world will stop revolving around her and her relationships, it’s not like the show goes out the window: there is more than enough drama and comedy both in that storyline and out of that storyline. This is a show that can throw together two characters who rarely interact, and something about it just clicks.
And then you have things everyone loves: Cappie! (Which a certain group of Tweeters has forever turned into “Cappay!” in my brain), the Kappa Tau antics, and the brilliance that is the comedy stylings of Dale and Calvin. There’s just so much depth to this little show on ABC Family, and once people get past the network, and get past the teen programming stereotype, they will discover the kind of College show that Gossip Girl is going to wish it could be come next season.
So, yeah – before this turns into a blog post, don’t feel guilty about watching Greek – plain ol’ pleasure it is.

As so many of the commenters have mentioned, the pop culture refs alone make Greek worth watching. I’m a tad older than the characters, but the writers keep my generation in mind, too. 😉 Greek really makes me wish I’d joined a sorority. And that I had a brother like Rusty. And a boyfriend like…Max. Sorry Cappie fans! haha

I’ve been watching Greek since it started, and I think it’s a really quality show (better than most ABC Family fare IMHO). It successfully blends comedy and drama with some witty dialog and pop culture references. The cast is fun and talented. And I think it’s nearly impossible to not get a major TV crush on Cappie.
People should watch Greek because it’s AWSOME. When I started watching i thought it would be a dumb series about frat boys/girls, but surprise, surprise! It totally changed my mind about the greek system and the people in it.
GREEK is a quality show. When I first heard it was going to be on ABC Family, I was extremely skeptic. But lovable characters like Cappie, Rusty and Casey… this show is a true gem. In the pilot, they got me hooked with Rusty/Cappie’s dialogue about Casey/Biblically/In Her Church- A+
Thank god the show is rerun at 11 on Mondays so I can watch! 😀
I love Greek because the characters are awesome and behave like regular college kids. The show is pretty diverse as well. People should watch it because it’s amazing! Plus, everyone needs a little Cappie in their life.
I started watching Greek because of you and Dan (ok and Rae and Amrie) no wait, it was CAPPIE! Because everyone knows a cute guy will get to to tune in to a show (even if it’s on ABC Family). A good show will keep me watching. I have no college references I am watching for pure fun! Oh, and CAPPIE!

Alice: If I remember correctly Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 are technically S1 (Rusty, Calvin and Dale’s freshman year) and Chapter 3 is S2 (Rusty, Calvin and Dale’s sophomore season).
Yay! One of the quotes in the piece is me. I have since burned through the rest of the episodes produced so far and I’m anxiously awaiting the new season along with everyone else. The show is great – funny, smart, diverse…definitely check it out if you haven’t yet.
I could go on and on and on about why I love this show. It’s got some of funniest and most genius
Pop culture references (during a recent episode centered around the Homecoming float competition, Casey rejects the idea of going 90210 classic and burning down rival Frannie’s float a la Emily Valentine);
Guest Stars – Charisma Carpenter (Buffy and Angel), Senta Moses (My So-Called Life), and Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), just to name a few;
Fantastic writing – the dialogue is witty, realistic, insightful, fun, funny, poignant and just plain GOOD! ;
3-Dimensional characters – so many characters, particularly the supporting cast, can some off as college stereotypes (and that may be how they were introduced), but in many cases, as with Dale, Rebecca, Ashleigh, and Calvin, they have been given the opportunity to transcend the stereotypes to become likeable, relatable REAL people;
Comedy – The show is hilarious, working in just about every comedic device out there, and successfully bringing on the laughs (I point towards any scene with Dale);
Romance – Casey and Evan, Casey and Cappie, Rebecca and Cappie, Casey and Max, Calvin and Michael, Rusty and Jen K, Rusty and Jordan, Evan and Frannie, Ashleigh and Fisher, etc.;
Drama – Tying all of this together is a strong dramatic arc that takes itself and its audience seriously, despite the concept of the show. At the end of the day, these characters are dealing with coming of age issues that we’ve all been through (or are still going through).
I cannot praise this show enough, and I guarantee that you will love the show if you just give it a chance!!!!
I watch it because I think every single actor on the show is adorable. Eh, that’s reason enough everybody should watch it.
Okay, I watch it cause it has a great script show after show too, another reason everybody should watch it! lol.
GREEK rocks. I can’t even explain it’s awesomeness. I am so in love with Ash and Rebecca, that its not even funny and not only because they are hot. I find the character of Casey and Rusty fantastically refreshing and the writing for the show is superd. Funny, drama-filled, it really identifies with colle-students and almost everyone. I don’t know who plays the character of Catherine from Panhellenic, but I love her. She’s hot too. I like how she always says ‘moving on’. She’s funny and dresses lady-like. Keep rockin Greek.
