Absolutely Fabulous Remake? Not So Fabulous!!
October 7, 2008 by Kath Skerry
No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No!According to Variety, Fox is planning on making a US version of the hit BBC show ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. Seriously? Please Fox, leave the show alone. AbFab is one of my favorite shows of ALL time and I couldn’t bear anyone mucking it up. Please leave Edina and Patsy alone. I beg you sweetie darlings, I beg you!!
The latest attempt at a U.S. rendition of “Ab Fab” will be transplanted to L.A. but retain the basic template of the original, revolving around the friendship of two boozy, over-40 best friends who are desperate to stay hip and youthful and who carry on under the disapproving eye of Edina’s teenage daughter, Saffy.
Jennifer Saunders, who created the original AbFab and starred as Edina, will be on board as Executive Producer, but I must say that’s not going to be enough to make me happy with this remake. I mean, Ricky Gervais is Executive Producer of the US version of THE OFFICE but it’s not like he has any real say in the day to day happenings of the show (but thankfully under the genius direction of Greg Daniels, Ricky’s baby is in good hands)
I know this plea is a bit odd coming from on of THE OFFICE’s most vocal fans. I mean I guess you never know what’s going to work when you bring it overseas, but I’m ok with never knowing. Really I am. Maybe I’ll eat my words. Maybe it will be great. But maybe it will be an utter train wreck.

BONES: Betty White to Guest Star

Betty White will guest star in an episode of BONES, a rep for the show has confirmed.
White will play, Dr. Beth Mayer, “an accomplished, sharp as a tack, absolutely fabulous squintern who is brought in to assist in a murder linked to fantasy football — which just happens to be one of her many areas of expertise!” (Um, who can’t wait to see Betty freaking White talking about fantasy football.)
But not everyone will be happy to see her. Dr. Mayer has “a half century of work under her belt,” which makes her “without a doubt the world’s most experienced forensic anthropologist, which will lead to some serious competition with Dr. Brennan (Emily Deschanel) to prove who is the more brilliant scientist!”
The casting news was first broken by White herself on Twitter.
Wanted to let you know first that I will be joining the @BONESonFOX family for an upcoming episode this fall! #Bones
— Betty White (@BettyMWhite) August 27, 2015
White is the second big name guest star for the upcoming eleventh season of BONES: Kim Raver will be appearing in the two-part season premiere as an agent who is helping the team find a missing Booth.
BONES returns Thursday, October 1st at 8 PM on Fox.

WGA Announces 101 Best Written TV Series of All Time — Do You Agree?

The Writers Guild of America announced the top 101 best written television series of all time, and while my personal top three shows are listed here, I can think of probably three or four more I wish had made the list.

TV Buzz: Haven’t I Seen You Before? Edition – Veronica Mars, George Clooney and More…
January 28, 2009 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, The Office, TV Buzz, TV News, Veronica Mars
From remakes of old shows both on the big screen and small, to once again stealing from the Brits, to the return of an oldie but hottie – todays’ TV buzz proves the adage “everything old is new again”. But the question remains, is it better the second time around?
Read on for buzz on THE A TEAM, VERONICA MARS, THE OFFICE, ABFAB, Clooney and more…
Who will be the B Team Taking Over for THE A TEAM?
Fox has announced the creative team that will be helming the upcoming movie version of THE A-TEAM. Joe Carnahan will direct while Tony & Ridley Scott will produce. Stephen J. Cannell, who was the creator of the TV series, is also on board as a producer. The script by Skip Woods is being worked on by Carnaham and Brian Bloom (as in ‘I get lost…in your eyes‘ Brian Bloom, sigh).
Those involved say that it’s important to them to not make this to cheesy as they want to hold true to the original series. But wasn’t the original A-TEAM just a little campy and cheesy to begin with? (Variety)
Are you ready for an A-TEAM movie? Can the magic of the TV show be captured on the big screen? Casting calls? Anyone come to mind that could play the legendary roles of John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, B.A. Baracus, Murdock, The Face?
Will VERONICA MARS PI Her Way to the Big Screen?
Speaking of the leap from the small screen to the big screen…I’ve been rather reticent about the rumors swirling around about the possible VERONICA MARS movie. I know everyone is all a flutter about it, but I’m not. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for seeing my VM friends again. I was very disappointed in the ending of the show and I would enjoy the chance to have some closure with Veronica, Logan and the rest. But I don’t really buy that it’s going to happen. Yes Joel Silver wants it done, and yes Rob Thomas said he is going to pen it, but do I see it happening? Nope. I don’t believe for one second that a studio would back and distribute a film that had horrible TV ratings on the lowest rated network. Why would they do that? I understand that this worked for “Firefly”/”Serenity”, but that was a show that had the full support of the Whedonverse. I just can’t see the same turnout for VERONICA MARS. I would love nothing more than to be wrong on this one. Make it happen. But until I see a release date I’m not going to let myself get overly excited about this one.
Would you like to see a VERONICA MARS movie? Who are the essential cast members that must return? Do you see this ever coming to life on the big screen?
Kim Cattrall Has ‘Sensitive Skin’ in New HBO Series

The ultimate cougar, Kim Cattrall, will be heading back to HBO for another sexy series. This time she’s leaving her trendy girlfriends and cosmos behind as she takes on the role of a middle-aged wife and mother in New York ‘who rediscovers her sexuality and begins to question her place in the world and the choices she has made in life’ in SENSITIVE SKIN.
‘Sensitive Skin’ is a remake of a British show which starred the incredibly talented Joanne Lumley (Patsy from ‘Absolutely Fabulous’).
Being a smart cookie that she is, Cattrall insisted on an HBO development deal as part of her overall compensation package for agreeing to star in the ‘Sex and the City’ movie.
No word yet on when the series will premiere.

Will you all start your long holiday weekend today or tomorrow? I hope you all have a fun and safe holiday weekend! I’m going to be traveling myself but I’ll try to update the site as much as I can.
For tonight’s picks I thought I would go a little tea and crumpets on you. It just so happens that my two of my favorite shows of all time are playing two of my favorite episodes tonight. How fun for me. Cheerio!!
The Office
“Training”
BBC America (8pm est)
Dawn is distraught over relationship woes, while a consultant tries to conduct a training seminar at the Slough branch. Tim reaches his breaking point both with Dawn and with his career. “Free Love on the Freelove Freeway” – classic!! Tim and Dawn…sigh.
Absolutely Fabulous
BBC America (9:20pm est)
“Iso Tank”
Edina’s new isolation tank seems to be the perfect remedy for life’s problems, except for one thing: she hates being alone.
LIVE Blogging American Idol

Ten minutes into and I figure ‘what the hell, I’m watching – I might as well as blog it‘.
It’s all about the British invasion tonight. Peter Noone and LuLu are mentoring the kids tonight. Don’t know who they are? Me neither. Well I know LuLu from her stint on “Absolutely Fabulous” but without that I would never have known them. Hey, I wasn’t around in the 60’s, don’t blame me.
Haley Scarnato is singing “Tell Him”, and I think this is her best performance yet. She was cute, adorable and really had fun with it. Nice job. Oh and look, Ryan Cabrera is in the audience. Paula and Randy really enjoyed her performance. Simon thought she was “naughty”. He thought it was fun, young and a bit shrieky but overall he thinks people are going to be talking about a lot more than her singing. (1-866-IDOLS-01)
Chris Richardson is not getting the love by Peter Noone. Mr. Noone doesn’t seem to have much faith in the boy. We’ve got a rather subdued Chris tonight, and I’m slowly falling in love. His voice isn’t rich but there’s something about this kid. If he were to bypass American Idol he would have a record deal based on his look alone. But going up against these great singers, he doesn’t have much of a chance. I thought he did a really nice job tonight. Randy thought it was beautiful. Paula thought he was smart with his song choice and it was sexy. Simon thought it was his best performance because he really controlled the song and made it his own. Yeah Chris. (1-866-IDOLS-02)

Though Pratibha Parmar has been directing for decades, the decision to dive into network television led her to apply to NBCU’s Female Forward for a way into this world.
In the program, female directors are mentored and assigned NBCU shows. There, they’d shadow directors on their assigned series for a number of episodes before stepping behind the camera themselves. (Other participants this season went on to direct CHICAGO FIRE, CHICAGO MED, and NEW AMSTERDAM.) For Parmar, her episode ended up being the May 5 SVU hour, “Did You Believe in Miracles?”
“To be able to shadow on and direct an episode of LAW & ORDER: SVU was like a dream come true,” Parmar says. “It’s one of the longest-running series, and I’ve been a big fan of the show for years. I absolutely love that cast—particularly Mariska [Hargitay], who I think is just legendary and iconic, both on- and off-screen.”
“To have an opportunity to be able to work with her, Ice T, Peter [Scanavino], and Kelli [Giddish]—how can I describe it? It was more than wonderful, it was just a gift,” she continues. “It was a real gift.”
Here, Parmar talks about stepping behind the camera on the long-running series… Read more
