Comments Off on This Week in TV Blog Banter

It’s your weekly round-up of the best in TV blogs. What were bloggers bantering about last week? Check it out for yourselves and weigh in.

  • If thinking The Secret Life of the American Teenager could be cheesily addictive is wrong, Buzz doesn’t want to be right. (BuzzSugar)
  • GMMR has been podcast crazy this past week. Two, count ’em, two podcasts! In addition to the usual GMMR/Ducky So You Think You Can Dance podcast (here), we devoted a separate TV Talk Podcast to what shows are taking over our TV this summer. (Give Me My Remote)
  • Marcia decided to spend the summer hiatus watching old episodes of Buffy and wondered if the show improves with repeat viewings. (Pop Vultures)
  • From Miami to Vancouver, this week Rae was on the set of Psych and she’s only to happy to share what happened. (RTVW)
  • Viva la Vida or was Coldplay able to make an album this time around that doesn’t sound like a Coldplay cover band? (Scooter McGavin’s 9th Green)
  • School’s out and Vance celebrates the end of an era now that Emma, daughter of Spike (from the original Degrassi) has now graduated from Degrassi High on Degrassi: The Next Generation. (Though The N will show those episodes this summer) (Tapeworthy)
  • Remember that episode about the helpless dude who delivered the baby in the elevator? Oh yeah, that was every series ever. By that token, Dan decided to coin the term “elevator baby” and cement his role in pop culture history. (TiFaux)
  • Tube Talk shared some scoop on the new season of Psych, after an interview with show stars James Roday and Dulé Hill, fondly remembered shows that were canceled too early, and asked for help in naming Tube Talk Girl’s future baby boy. (Tube Talk)

  • This week we finally spotted someone who has a Nerdier license plate than the TV Addicts and released what critics, and by critics I mean listeners are saying was our funniest to date! (The TV Addict)
  • Kate is disappointed enough with this season of My Boys that she drafted an open letter to the show’s writers. (TV Filter)

It’s your weekly round-up of the best in TV blogs. What were bloggers bantering about last week? Check it out for yourselves and weigh in.

  • It may be the Summer hiatus, but Buzz still has a few questions for Grey’s Anatomy. (BuzzSugar)
  • If you know the significance of the ‘bench dance’, understand the genius of Mia Michaels, and secretly want to be on the Hot Tamale Train then you should check out GMMR & Ducky’s So You Think You Can Dance podcast. (Give Me My Remote)
  • Marcia found herself thoroughly underwhelmed by The Middleman. (Pop Vultures)
  • On the set of Burn Notice, Rae discovers that Jeffrey Donovan’s just as cool as his alter-ego Michael Westen. (RTVW)
  • Low production value, cheesy stories and 30 points for yet another “sassy” female lead, but The Middleman is actually entertaining. (Scooter McGavin’s 9th Green)
  • Vance video recaps The Tony Awards since apparently, no one watched it on TV. By the way, go see In The Heights, Passing Strange and Xanadu (for real!)! All fantastic! Take a look at the clips for proof! (Tapeworthy)
  • Dan didn’t see the mid-season finale of Battlestar Galactica coming — that’s for dang sure. This week, he mulled the twist ending as well as the concept of merging our world with Battlestar’s. (TiFaux)
  • Jennifer thinks the Oscars and Emmys should take a cue from the TV Land Awards. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Horshack from Welcome Back Kotter, Nellie Oleson from Little House on the Prairie, and Doc from The Love Boat dressed in their trademark costumes flying through the air, or the paparazzi catching a panty-free crotch shot of Mama from Mama’s Family. Add in the cast of The Office, Wilhelmina Slater, Justin Timberlake and a Lionel Richie concert, and the TV Land Awards were just about perfect. (Tube Talk)
  • This week, the TV Addict posted his theory on the highly anticipated spin-off of THE OFFICE and visited the set of BURN NOTICE (the TV Addict)
  • Raoul talked to loudmouth Jen from Hell’s Kitchen. (TV Filter)

  • Katherine Heigl made waves with her statement about Grey’s Anatomy while pulling out of the Emmy race this week, but Buzz wondered if perhaps she had a point. (BuzzSugar)
  • We finally found out just who PJ’s mystery date was on the premiere of My Boys. Did she bring along the right guy? If you’re a fan of MY BOYS and in the Boston area, join GMMR & Jamie Kaler (Mike) next week for a My Boys party here in Beantown and watch the second episode with fellow fans. (Give Me My Remote)
  • In preparation for Monday’s return of everyone’s favorite pot-dealing suburban mom, Pop Vultures is giving away season 3 of Weeds. (Pop Vultures)
  • Still reeling from her great day on the set of Burn Notice, Rae’s got a recap of what happened as well as some visual aids. (RTVW)
  • Midgets, Token Hot Chicks, and Nerds galore, must be time to hand out the fourth annual Scooter Television Awards. (Scooter McGavin’s 9th Green)
  • Woohoo! It’s the Top 20 Dance-Off on So You Think You Can Dance! Vance is super excited and the high level of endorphins from the excitement is probably causing him to love all the dancers so far! (Tapeworthy)
  • TiFaux was a regular Bloggers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes this week as we gave away all sorts of stuff. But you can still enter to win things like Jackie from Work Out‘s DVD by e-mailing us. Click the link and enter! (TiFaux)
  • The casting department at Brothers and Sisters can stop looking for Ryan Walker. Jennifer has found the perfect guy. She also mourned the loss of Men in Trees and celebrated that the Smurfs are coming to the big screen! (Tube Talk)
  • The TV Addict answers all your TV related questions in his new weekly column ‘ASK THE ADDICT’ (The TV Addict)
  • Raoul talked to Bobby from Hell’s Kitchen about Gordon Ramsay, Tourette’s Syndrome, and what’s next for him. (TV Filter)

AMERICAN IDOL Goes to Omaha…by Guest Blogger Aaron

January 30, 2008 by
Filed under American Idol, American Idol Recap

I’m a selfish, selfish blogger, and as a result I couldn’t bring myself to recap last night’s AMERICAN IDOL. Sorry, but I’m so over the audition shows that I couldn’t fathom watching and then trying to find something witty so say about them. I’m so ready for the good singers. We saw a few last night but I’m ready to hear real talent…all the time. Bring on Hollywood Week…please!!

Despite being a bit bored by it all, there was one moment last night that stood out as perhaps the funniest of the young season (at least to me). Did you guys see when that one chick got through to Hollywood despite impressing Simon…she’s doing a talking head with the camera and says: “I’m going to prove Simon wrong and show him that I’m America’s Next Top Model!“. Ha ha ha ha…LOVED it!! I think I watched that scene at least 10 times. It’s the little things.

Although I’m being selfish (and lazy) I know that many of you still want to talk about all things IDOL. To that end, today we have a guest blogger to fill us in on things IDOL. Read on as my friend Aaron (of TV with MeeVee) breaks down last night’s Omaha auditions with the witty banter that I just couldn’t muster. Funny stuff!!

AmericanidolinomahaAmerican Idol” heads to Nebraska tonight, for corn-fed cuties and a midwestern flair to auditions and hopefuls. Paula’s plane is delayed, but they go ahead and get started anyway, with Nebraska’s biggest “American Idol” fan, Chris Bernheisel, of Fremont, Nebraska. (That’s not him in the picture on the right. That’s just some photo I ripped from the Fox site. Yeah, shameless, I know.)

Chris brings the judges some and shows them some pictures of himself with Kelly Clarkson. He tells Simon and Randy “This is the biggest moment of my life,” and that he’s “been waiting for this moment for so long,” before almost bursting into tears with gratitude. Then he attempts to sing “Since You Been Gone.”

Of course he’s trying that one. Can he do it? Of course not. The only time I’ve heard that song butchered more was when I sang it at my girlfriend’s office Christmas party, and that got karaoke banned from all future office activities. Not just at her work- also at the bar that hosted the party.

Chris’ voice may be like a horrible disease, but his enthusiasm is what’s infectious: Simon says he’ll get the kid a gig reporting for the local Fox affiliate from the red carpet at the “Idol” finale. He’s the Nebraskan Ryan Seacrest. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not, but let’s move on. After the jump: More missed notes! Will someone carry a tune?

I’m going to go ahead and reveal right now, even before the jump, that the best line of the entire evening is “I’m going to prove Simon wrong and
show him that I’m America’s Next Top Model! I mean… uh…”

LIVE Blogging American Idol – Top 12

ai_ross_06.jpg

Yes I can finally LIVE blog Idol…woo hoo. It’s all about the original Diva, Diana Ross tonight. She’s mentoring the contestants. Her hair is something fierce. Let’s get to it.

First up…

Brandon Rogers – I think Brandon has one of the best voices in this competition – probably the best of all the guys. I thought that song didn’t work for him, he has more talent than the song allowed for. Does that makes any sense? Did he just forget the words? I think he did. (1-866-IDOLS-01)

Judges: Randy wasn’t impressed and thinks it wasn’t good enough. Paula thinks it was his nerves. Simon was harsh and thought he was a backup singer of a backup singer. Not good.

More homoerotic banter between Ryan and Simon – just make out already!!

Melinda Doolittle – I kind of hate that Melinda is going second. I like when she performs towards the end because it’s like a treat for me, and it helps me get through listening to Sanjaya. Mel is singing “Home” from The Wiz. What can I say, she’s fantastic! One piece of constructive criticism here…I would really love to see her in some new outfits. She wears these dresses that I think age her a bit too much. But really, she is the one to beat in this competition. She’s just fabulous. (1-866-IDOLS-02)

Judges: This wasn’t Randy’s favorite performance but he still loved it. Paula is CRYING, oh here we go. Take the meds Paula, take the meds. Simon loves her – she reminds me of a young Gladys Knight. Praise all around as expected.

Hey BACKSTROM fans! The show is getting into the swing of things, and this episode, “I Am a Bird Now,” dealt with issues of gender expression, the way romantic or platonic couples lie to one another, and whether being good has anything to do with the rules. There’s a lot to discuss, so let’s get to it. Read more

LEVERAGE Series Finale: Some Thoughts on ‘The Long Goodbye Job’

December 26, 2012 by

Confession: I was dreading watching the LEVERAGE series finale.

It’s not that I didn’t want to see it…it’s just that this show has been so much fun over the years and the knowledge that this was it — even if the late cancellation had led to them treating this as the series finale versus a season finale — made it a little hard to turn the final episode on.

But when I did, I was so happy with what I saw. It was everything I felt a LEVERAGE finale should have been, and if we had to say goodbye, I’m glad it was this way.

Of course, I had a few more thoughts about what went down…

WHITE COLLAR Recap: Countermeasures

February 9, 2011 by

After two weeks of intense looks into Neal’s history and motivations, it was time for an episode focused on someone else. This week, we got a peek into June’s past . . . which naturally raised a lot of questions about Neal’s future.

Let’s get to it!

The Case of the Week

An old friend of June’s is released from jail and shows up. Neal is suspicious of the man’s motives and convinces Diana to look into him. A simple fingerprint check turns into a full-blown counterfeit case, making me wonder again how these cases just fall into Peter and Neal’s laps – and why they weren’t already buried under a dozen cases!

Nevertheless, they drop everything to investigate June’s friend, Ford, who – as it turns out – is running a con with his former cellmate, Joseph Ganz. After a dinner party turned covert operation reveals a few clues into Ford’s past and his plans, the man disappears with a counterfeit printing plate that Neal discovered in June’s house.

WHITE COLLAR: ‘What Happens in Burma’

February 2, 2011 by
Filed under #1 featured, White Collar

After an episode so solely focused on back story and the music box mystery, we were bound to face a week without any mention of the box – or Kate, Alex or Sara, for that matter.

We did, however, continue to learn more about Neal Caffrey and his background.

The Case of the Week

Peter and Neal are summoned by the undersecretary of Asian affairs, who asks them to help an American college student accused of stealing an enormous ruby from Burma (or Myanmar, as the country’s people prefer to call it).

Neal: No pigeons were harmed in the mining of this ruby.

The student – who, as it turns out, is the diplomat’s estranged son – is being held in a Burmese prison and is just one week from a conviction that will likely mean he never returns to the United States.

This case is completely out of the realm of Peter and Neal’s normal caseload – and, I suspect, out of their jurisdiction as well. The barely there connection is a rumor that the 237-carat ruby the American student is accused of stealing has, indeed, been stolen and is in Manhattan.

WHITE COLLAR Recap: Burke’s Seven

January 19, 2011 by
Filed under #1 featured, White Collar

Welcome back, White Collar fans! I’m glad to be back, recapping the adventures of our favorite FBI/con artist team. Just like last summer, I’ll split these posts into two main parts: the Case of the Week and the Music Box Mystery. Then it will be your turn to weigh in as we revel in the bromance of Neal and Peter while unraveling the conspiracies and questions surrounding them both.

Let’s get started!

It’s been a long, cold winter while we wait to find out what happened to our beloved Mozzie. Will he make it? And almost as important, will they give his real name at the hospital?

In typical White Collar fashion, we aren’t kept waiting for answers. We see Mozzie rushed to the hospital, briefly flatline (nooooo!) and then recover enough to lie peacefully in a medically induced coma.

Peter is sympathetic and concerned, but he’s not about to let Neal wait around in Mozzie’s hospital room. Peter reminds his friends that “there’s nothing you can do for him here. But there’s something you can do out there”.
