Veronica Mars Recap: The Welcome Wagon

And here we are…the first recap of Veronica Mars Season 3. I hope you all watched, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Especially if you are a VM newbie who watched the show for the first time last night.
The recap is pretty long, and you may find a few typos since I really haven’t had the chance to read it through, but I think it will do its job. Enjoy, and let chat about the show, shall we?
Title: Welcome Wagon
Original Airdate: 10/3/2006
“Here it is. First day of college. Whadya say Veronica? New school. Fresh start. How about you try to not piss anyone off this time around?” Ambitious thoughts coming from Ms. Mars. Best of luck to you Veronica. Welcome to Hearst College.
Ironic that Veronica’s first college class is “Intro to Criminology”, a class that she could easily teach. Something tells me she might just ace this one. A few minutes into class and the professor gives the students a mini case to solve during the remainder of the class. Clues are given and the students are milling around, interviewing each other in hopes of finding out whodunit.
Meanwhile, Roni flips through a magazine without a care in the world. The TA approaches her and smugly suggests that Early Education might be a better course for her since magazine reading is probably allowed there. Veronica returns the smugness with a bit of her own and informs the TA –(ok I’ve got to stop here. Yes he is the TA but he’s also Lucky, Neptune’s High janitor who went on a shooting spree last year in the courtyard only to end of dead himself. Sorry but I’m a die hard VM fans, and a BAD wig, a beard and some glasses aren’t going to fool me…maybe I should take Intro to Criminology…hmmm)…anyway, Veronica tells that TA she knows who did it.
Veronica Mars Season 3 is Back TONIGHT!!

WARNING…this post contains some mild spoilers for the first two episodes of Veronica Mars. Spoiler Puritans beware!!
This is a big year for Veronica Mars. Not just the title character but the show. While Veronica finds herself at a new college, the show finds itself on a new network. And while Ms. Mars will try her best to avoid the Freshman 15, the show will be begging to gain 22…episodes that is. The critically acclaimed but viewer-starved show has only been picked up for 13 eps this season. So Veronica needs to make some new friends – fast, or else risk not being …ugh. You know what?…I’m not even going there. Veronica Mars needs some new eyes in front of their TVs, and that’s that!
One way the new network is trying to bring in and keep new viewers is to change the format just a bit. Rather than have one season-long mystery to compliment the weekly whodun-its (as was the format for the first two seasons), we will be treated to three seperate mysteries which will be rolled out over the course of the season. As a fan, I’m looking forward to this new approach as I think it will keep the stories fresh and the mometum moving in the right direction.
In an effort to acclamate new viewers, tonight’s S3 premiere is Veronica Mars-light. Don’t get me wrong, the episode is fantastic and it’s got all the elements that makes Veronica Mars so frakkin’ good. But the show was perhaps written more for the newbies than the die hard Veronica Mars fans. Something show creator Rob Thomas talked about last week during a S3 press meeting.
“I will freely admit, the first episode is Veronica Mars for beginners“, Thomas noted. “The case is pretty straight ahead and used to largely introduce us to the new characters. I’ve tried to really front load the episodes with fun breezy banter, that would play nicely with the Gilmore Girls audience, sort of inviting them into the show. It starts feeling more like our show in the final five minutes. The second episode which ranks with some of our best ever, is Veronica Mars at its best.“
But before we get to the second episode, which was soooo good, let’s take a quick look at where Veronica Mars is in tonight’s episode.
Rescue Me Recap – Season Finale (Beached)

Before we get into the final recap of the 2006 season of Rescue Me, I wanted to take a moment to thank Julie for writing these amazing recaps all season long. You guys have no idea how labor intensive the recaps are, and Julie not only has let us in on what happened on every show, she did it with her signature style and wit. So please make sure you visit Julie at the newly redesigned (and fabulous) TVandSympathy.com.
Title: “Beached”
Original Airdate: August 30, 2006
Tommy drops his coffee answering his phone. It’s Sheila, wondering if he’s putting in his papers at the headquarters. She tells him she has a great idea: this weekend, they’ll go down to their new house, get furniture, and hang out. Tommy’s not exactly the apex of enthusiasm.
He heads into the firehouse, stealing Probie’s coffee on the way. He then passes by Lou, who is harassing Franco about messing up some job, calling him a probie. He heads into the kitchen, where Lou, not-dead-Jimmy, and some other dude are heckling Sean as a probie. There’s a winsome smile on Tommy’s face as he watches Lou bet Jimmy $10,000 that the Red Sox will never win the World series. Walking back into the garage area, Tommy’s greeted by the old crew celebrating the birth of his daughter, Katie, with an enormous teddy bear and (normal-sized) blow-up doll as gifts.
They’re called away by the siren, and the current-day crew parades past him as new-Lou bugs Tommy to get going: “It’s a fire and we’re all invited.”
Veronica Mars Redux – I am God

I got a few emails asking why one of my faves, Veronica Mars, was left off today’s Watchlist. Well, I tell ya why. Tonight’s episode of Veronica Mars, is very near and dear to my heart and so I thought it deserved its very own post.
If you are a long time reader of GiveMeMyRemote.com, then you know that I was lucky enough to have WB/UPN fly me out to San Diego, CA last year and spend the day on the set of Veronica Mars. We got to meet the cast and spend the day getting a tour of the set from VM creator, Rob Thomas.
As it happens they were filming tonight’s episode “I am God” while we were there. The bloggers in attendance were just inches from being in an actual episode of VM. Had I had a little more guts I could have easily been an extra as Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas) was encouraging me to jump in the background of a scene. In hindsight I should have done it!!!
So in honor of tonight’s historic episode, I thought I would share links to my original posts realting to “I am God”. Enjoy!!
My Day on the Set of Veronica Mars
I was equally geeked out the first time “I am God” aired. Check out my posts and relive the first time GMMR watched “I am God“, and my post from the morning after the ep aired. These posts themselves aren’t particulary interesting, but they do include candid pics from the set, so I thought I would shared them all again.
Don’t forget to watch Veronica Mars tonight on UPN (check your local listings….in Boston it’s on at 8pm and 9pm, but I know that differs depening on where you live)

One of the premiere Veronica Mars websites, NeptuneSite, was able to catch up with Veronica Mars stars Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls) and Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas) during last week’s Comic Con.Both guys seem really excited about Season 3. Really dude, it’s so cool, f-ing awesome, and did I mention really cool dude? Yeah, these are true California boys, and we do love them.

Check out the Veronica Mars hotness from the TCA press tour in Cali. Veronica Mars stars Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars), Percy Daggs III (Wallace Fennel), Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas), and show creator Rob Thomas were on hand for all the fesitivites. Hmmm, who is missing?! Oh right…Jason Dohring. I know Jason was there, but how come we don’t have any pics of him on the red carpet or at the parties? Someone should tell his publicist that we need to see a little more of J. Dog (he he).
Kristen looks gorgeous, per usual, and the men of Neptune are looking pretty fine as well. You know how I love Dick (Casablancas), and Ryan Hansen seems to be getting hotter and hotter with each passing day. Although seeing that wedding ring on his finger does put a damper on things a wee bit. I’m not sure what it is by Ryan definitely looks different in these pics*. Did he get taller? Lose weight? Was this impact of Cassidy’s death too much on our boy? Anyway you look at it…it’s all good.
Just sit back and enjoy…more Veronica Mars goodness coming your way soon.

Don’t you just love when comedy geniuses collide? Head over to Silly Pipe Dreams to check out Ricky Gervais and Larry David’s hilarious meeting. (Silly Pipe Dreams)
So You Think You Can Dance? No, I actually suck, unless of course I’ve had 5 Capt’n & Cokes, and then I am the second coming of Paula Abdul (and by that I mean, drunk off my ass and dancing with every man at the bar). I’ve been watching the show, and I LOVE it. I haven’t really found the time to write about it (I’m too busy boozing). Lucky for you, DuckyxDale and I have the same snarky thoughts on the show (DuckyxDale)
The video iPod was the hottest gift in the Yankee Swap and now you have a chance to win one of your own. The top two “Office” fan sites, OfficeTally.com & NorthernAttack.com, are teaming up for a really cool contest. Check out there sites for more information. (Office Tally & Northern Attack)
You know how I LOVE my youtube.com videos. Well The TV Addict know tells us how we can save them on our computer and keep them forever. Because really, I don’t think a day can go by without me watching: Jim & Pam’s kiss from the Office season finale, the Dick Casablancas ‘Come Baby Come’ video, John Krasinski’s Jarhead behind the scenes home movie, or this awesome Jason Dohring/Logan Echolls video. (The TV Addict)
I have to say, that although I am probably on Team LC, Kristin Cavallari is getting hotter and hotter by the day. Looks like leaving life in Laguna Beach behind has done wonders for the girl. (Bricks and Stones)
And speaking of my Laguna Bitches, it looks like Stephen Colletti is following in the footsteps of his ex and is trying out this acting stuff. Check out the pics of him (p 1-3) on the set of a new movie with Amber Tamblyn. That kid is delicious…I don’t care how young he is. (Pics courtesy of Jeff Wilhelm)

Alias Recap: No Hard Feelings

Sorry I’m so late in posting the Alias recap from last night. Julie was kind enough to send it along this morning, but since I’m still traveling on business, I didn’t get the chance to post it until now.
That being said, Julie did say she was a little tired while doing the recap and asked me to check it out before posting. Problem is, I haven’t seen the episode, so I can’t read Julie’s recap until later tonight. So here it is…I’m sure it’s fantastic (as all of Julie’s recaps always are), but if there are some typos or something, I know you will forgive us 🙂
Alias 5/17 – “No Hard Feelings”
Note from Julie, probably meant for me, but it was so damn funny I had to include it: “…By the way, as to this episode’s title? I can’t really hear the phrase “no hard feelings” anymore without immediately following it up in my head with “naw, she gave me a few”. Damn you, Dick Casablancas, and your mad quotability!”
Jack convinces the rest of the APO’ers not to let anyone know Syd has infiltrated Prophet Five as Anna. They call Vaughn and arrange to get the info from the bunker transferred to APO. Marshall tells Vaughn he cried at Vaughn’s funeral. “I need a good cry now and again.”
Meanwhile, Syd-as-Anna-as-Syd (confused yet?) and Peyton talk in the limo. When Syd mentions the importance of the half-chip she retrieved, Peyton says it’s irrelevant–a nuisance–and drops it into a glass of celebratory champagne. Too bad for the APO’ers, who were using a tracking device on the chip to follow Syd. When they lose her, Vaughn is unhappy. He hops in his car, has Marshall clear him a way, and follows Syd to the airport to give her a cellphone.
Sloane reports that the translation of Page 47 is done, and the circle will be complete “when the chosen one finds the rose in San Cielo”. Cryptic to viewers, maybe, but Sloane seems to know how to proceed. He is concerned that Anna-as-Syd might not be able to fill in as the chosen one. Yeah…not sure even Rambaldi could have predicted and written of a plot this convoluted. Syd arrives and tells Sloane Syd’s dead. He doesn’t exactly burst into tears.
Sloane tells Syd she needs to retrieve an artifact from a monastery at San Cielo, near Rome. Syd’s remarkably snarky when she’s pretending to be Anna. It’s sort of disarming and enjoyable–for viewers anyway, Sloane doesn’t seem to be digging it.
Veronica Mars Season Finale Recap & Pics

Before we get to the lofty recap, which I will admit is a bit self indulgent, I just have to say that I was blown away by the episode. I watched it three times before going to bed at 3am this morning. I know some of you were underwhelmed, but I’m just not there with you. It wasn’t perfect, but it was perfect enough for me. It was a blast to watch, and I’m not sure I could ask for more than that from my TV.
Here we go….
The Veronica Mars Season 2 Finale. The anticipation is killing me. I had a lofty goal of doing a He Said, She Said blog along with my boy DuckyxDale, but then we realized that since we essentially share a brain, it wouldn’t be an interesting read for y’all. So I kind of took on the task of a full recap of the site, and Ducky really broke down our assessment of the show. Definitely head over to DuckyxDale.com to find out what was really going on while we were watching.
Oh, and he had it right on the money about the incessant use of the PAUSE button. We couldn’t get through one scene without stopping to yell, scream, analyze and throw things at the TV. It was the most fun I have EVER had watching Veronica Mars!!! And kind of sweet since Ducky and I became BFF’s after first meeting on the set of Veronica Mars in San Diego. Memories…like the corners of my mind….
Ok, on to the recap. You might want to get some caffeine in ya, I really gave my keyboard a work out on this one.
Watch Veronica Mars Tonight

Why should you watch Veronica Mars tonight? Because I said so. Hey it worked for my parents, so I had to give it a try.
Hopefully you checked out Veronica and the rest of the Neptunities last week during its new time slot of Tuesdays @ 9pm (est) on UPN. Last week’s show had so much going on, and it really helped to move the mysteries along. I am really looking forward to getting a few more clues tonight. And if those clues come via a shirtless Dick Casablancas or Logan Echolls then so be it.
Thanks for all the emails about your theories about Felix and the bus crash. I love hearing them all. But I’d really love for you to share your thoughts in the GMMR forums. This way we can all discuss who’s really behind all the drama *cough* The Goot *cough*.

Veronica Mars is on Tonight…Don’t Forget

I am so excited for tonight’s Veronica Mars, and it’s not just because last week’s episode was so freakin’ amazing. Tonight’s episode entitled “I am God” is the episode they were filming during my trip to the set of Veronica Mars. When we arrived on set, they handed us the sides for that day, so I already have a really big sneak peek as to what’s happening, and it’s good people…it’s good. Oh and look closely and you will see Kristen Bell wearing that shirt tonight…at least in her cafeyard scene with Beaver.
If you are reading this you are most likely at work or at school. Either way, figure out a way to remind yourself to watch Veronica Mars at 9pm tonight on UPN. This is probably one of the most important week’s ever, as the powers that be will certainly be watching the ratings closely. UPN has supported Veronica Mars since day one, and moving the show away from Lost is a good indication that they want VM to succeed. But if people don’t watch tonight, I’m not sure what’s going to happen with our little show next year.
So I think you should settle in and watch Gilmore Girls on The WB at 8pm, and then switch over to Veronica Mars at 9pm on UPN. Make it a Logan-filled evening. Could you ask for a better night?
Here are a few more pics from my day on the set. Click to enlarge. A few fun facts about each:
(1) That’s Annie from Random Acts of Television kickin’ back in Keith’s office. Classic!!!
(2) Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas greets us at the Mars’ kitchen door. Yes, THAT door.
(3) Duncan’s Logan’s apartment. There’s only one bedroom in this Neptune Grand condo. To transform Duncan’s bedroom into Logan’s, the crew simply changed the sheets.
(4 & 5) Shots of Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas) playing around on site in between takes. Yes, I was that close to him, yes he is that hot in person, and yes it was that awesome.
(6) That’s me and Jason Dohring! That one I just posted, well, because it exists!
It’s Not Wednesday, but Here’s a little Veronica Mars For Ya
March 21, 2006 by Kath Skerry
As I promised, every Wednesday I will be passing along a new pic and some background sccop from my day on the set of Veronica Mars. So yeah, I know it’s not Wednesday, but I’m heading back to California tomorrow, and I’m not sure I’m going to have time to post much before my flight.
A few nuggets…
Ever wonder how Dick and Beav Casablancas got their names? Well during lunch with Rob Thomas, he told us (and I’m paraphrasing here) that back in the day, every so often, the writers needed Logan to have a friend, besides Duncan. This friend was always kind of a dick, so in the writer’s room, they just started referring to him as, Dick. That made its way into the script and the rest is history. After Dick Casablancas became more of a presence on the show, the writers decided to give him a kid brother. They wanted him to be on the other specturm of his older brother. Someone sweet and innocent – you know, like the Beav, from Leave it to Beaver. I believe that Rob even said that it didn’t occur to them immediately that they would have brothers named Dick & Beav. But when it did, there was no turning back. You know how the writers of Veronica Mars love their double entendres…just as we do, often and hilarious.
Speaking of hilarious, albeit nasty – you could have picked my jaw up off the ground when Logan threw us a little “shocker” earlier in the season. I couldn’t believe that got by the network censors. Rob Thomas was a bit surprised too. The “shocker” was all the handy work (no pun intended) of Jason Dohring & Ryan Hansen. They threw it in the middle of the scene…on every take. Had the network censors taken issue, the entire scene would have had to be reshot. But it made it to the air, in one of the funniest scenes on the show. Oh yeah, the after effect of the “schocker” will be seen again. I’m not going to spill it now, but look for Veronica and Weevil to have a little “shocker” scene in a future ep. Oh…get your minds out of the gutter. Veronica Mars gets away with a lot, but THAT is pushing it.
Remember to check out Veronica Mars every Wednesday at 9pm(est) on UPN. What’s on tap for tomorrow night?
“The Quick and the Wed”

Wallace’s new girlfriend asks Veronica to find her sister, who appears to be either a “runaway bride” or a victim of foul play.
My Day on the Set of Veronica Mars
March 12, 2006 by Kath Skerry
Filed under GMMR Exclusives, Veronica Mars
When I first started Give Me My Remote, just mere months ago, I could never have anticipated what a fun hobby this would be. I figured I would jump online and share my thoughts and opinions on my favorite TV shows, and a few of you might stop by every once and a while and check out what I had to say, and that would be it. Never did I expect that my little blog would get me from Boston, MA to Neptune, CA. But it did. The kind people of Warner Bros, UPN and mPRm flew me out to San Diego for the first ever Veronica Mars Bloggers Press Day, and as you can expect it was crazy fun.
Last Monday morning I woke up the beautiful California sunshine. Being from the East Coast, it’s so amazing to wake up in the morning, and have your first cup of coffee on the veranda under the warm sun… in FEBRUARY!! After trying on three different outfits (nothing seemed right for the day ahead), I headed down to meet my friend from Random Acts of Television. Although this was our first time meeting face-to-face, we had emailed enough over the past few months that we already felt like old friends.
After a quick breakfast, we met up with the other 7 bloggers who had flown in from all over the country for the day. Also along for the fun were our two mPRm friends, Sienna & Chelsea; Holly from Warner Brothers; and Karla, a reporter for the San Diego Union-Tribune who was writing a story about our day on the set. Soon we would also be joined by a Warner Bros photographer who captured our whole day in pictures for UPN. After meeting the rest of the crew we were anxious to get our day started. Little did we know that we would be starting it in such style.
Oh they knew the VIPs that were coming today. We were picked up, big pimpin’ style, in a black SUV limo. Hell, we were only going to the set across the street….but I’m not complaining. It was a great way to start off the day, and inside that limo was when I realized that fellow Bostonian DuckyxDale was my new BFF. And it’s a damn good thing he and I hit it off, because we had a loooong time together before our little feet his Massachusetts soil.
As we pulled on to the set, the first thing we all noticed was Logan Echolls’ bright yellow Xterra. I think that’s the moment that it all sunk in. We were actually on the set of Veronica Mars. Holy sh*t!!! As we exited the limo, I wasn’t quite sure where my eyes should be looking. I was sure that everything around us, every tree, every piece of trash, was somehow connected with the show. I was trying to take everything in – I didn’t want to miss a single thing.
Before I knew it I was standing in the cafeyard of Neptune High School. So many crucial moments of the show happened right here in this little cafeteria courtyard. I immediately recognized the yellow and red McDonalds-like table where Roni and Wallace had many heart-to-hearts. The signs, the posters, the flagpole, the Lilly Kane Memorial Fountain…oh yeah, I was in Neptune alright. You know who else was there? Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) and Kyle Gallner (Cassidy “Beaver” Casablancas). Kristen and Kyle were filming a scene from episode 18 entitled ”I am God”. And oh my god, during the scene Veronica and Beav were totally dishing on….oh wait, sorry kids, I’m sworn to secrecy. Guess you’ll have to wait until the episode airs on April 18th to find out.
After standing around for a few minutes with, what I’m sure was the biggest, goofiest grins, we were escorted to our chairs, which gave us a great vantage point to watch the scene with Veronica and Beaver unfold. Earphones were passed around so we could hear the dialogue during the scene, and we even got a chance to stand right behind the director, Martha Mitchell, as she watched the scene unfold on the monitors. It was really interesting to see this whole cafeyard, filled with crew, equipment, and extras, juxtaposed with what we saw on the monitor, which looked just like what we see each week on TV. Very cool.
As we were watching take after take of the scene, I saw a very familiar face making his way across the pavement. Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas) strolled in looking every bit the surfer boy that we know and, well, loathe. It was at this precise moment that I fell in love with Dick. Sorry Mom, I’m not trying to be crass here. The boy’s name is Dick. No avoiding the dirty jokes that have and will continue to prevail. Ladies, let me tell you…the boy is fine. I was immediately smitten, as were the other girls, and my BFF DuckyxDale. Scooter was still holding on strong to the earphones just listening to his lady Kristen speak her sweet lines.
Ryan was super cool and immediately came over and chatted with us and let us all accost him with our cameras. When I mentioned I was from Boston he gave me a huge smile and said how much he loved Boston last time he was there. We later joked about getting him out to Beantown again, and how I could get him into a few bars. Sidenote: The boy is 24 and married!! Seriously, what is it with those Veronica Mars boys getting married so damn young.
Anyway, the scene carried on and Ryan continued to play around on the set, and was eventually asked to be in the background of a shot. At one point, Ryan kept motioning for me to jump in the scene as an extra, but I wasn’t looking to burn any bridges with the nice people that brought me there so I stayed in my little yellow seat. But when I tell ya that we all were just feet from being in an episode of Veronica Mars…I ain’t joking. We were right there.
A little while later Rob Thomas, the creator of Veronica Mars, came over to greet us. He made us all feel very welcome and said he was excited about our visit – the first group visit to the set of Veronica Mars….ummm, go us!!! He chatted with us for a few and then took off. Little did I know how much QT we would get with Mr. Thomas later in the day.
During a break in filming, Kyle Gallner (Beaver) came over to meet us. Like everyone we met that day, he was very nice and really laid back. I wanted scoop him up and bring him home with me, I’m not kidding. The kid is adorable. The baby face is so squashable. And he knows it. More than once he mentioned that he knows he looks really young for his 19 years. That’s going to come in handy later in life…believe me. Kyle mentioned that he was happy that the fans were taking such a liking to the pairing of Beaver & Mac.
After a few minutes with The Beav, Miss Veronica Mars herself, Kristen Bell, came over to spend some time with us. She sat right down and welcomed us to the set. I think we were all a little giddy, but she made us feel right at home.
Kristen is gorgeous. Just as beautiful, if not more so than she is on TV. The skin, the hair, just stunning. She talked about her experience in theater during college (she was in Hair), and how although she left early to do a play on Broadway, she really hopes to get her degree someday.
Kristen was also very candid about her recent cover of Maxim saying that “it was definitely a business decision”. She had a good chuckle at Maxim’s choice of quotes that they decided to pull out into the headlines, and how absurd they sounded out of context of the accompanying story. You got the sense the sexy magazine shoot wasn’t Kristen’s proudest moment but with the upcoming release of her movie Pulse, sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.
Before I knew it (and before we got to take any pics with her), Kristen was whisked away for another take. Although we saw her intermittently throughout the day, that was the only time we got to spend with Veronica Mars. The girl is the title character of the show, and is in basically every scene, the fact that we got any time to spend with her was a thrill. It’s always cool when you realize the people you see on TV are just as nice as you hoped they would be. (Thanks to The Vast Wasteland for snapping this shot of KB)
The Beav was done filming for the day which meant play time with big brother, Dick. Ryan and Kyle were having some fun on the set. As you can see from the pics, the Casablancas brothers get along like peas and carrots in real life. The boys posed for a few more pics before they bid us adieu for the day.
Holly from WB led us inside Neptune High and let us roam for a bit to really get a sense of the set. It took a minute to adjust to my surroundings. I was in a place I had never been before, yet I knew so well. The infamous bathroom (aka Veronica’s office), those bright yellow lockers that were always getting someone in trouble, the trophy case outside of Van Clemmons’ office…I was surrounded by it all. We all got pretty geeked out and started snapping up pics.
Before we knew it, we all were roaming freely in Veronica’s world. We threw our bags down over at Java the Hut and headed over to Mars Investigations. After solving a few investigations we sauntered over to Veronica & Keith’s place. Veronica’s tiny bedroom was adorned with pics of Lilly Kane, her Mom, and her photography artwork. Keith’s bedroom was decked out with an old school typewriter and the cutest pic of little baby Kristen Bell.
Daddy and little girl Mars have quite the kitchen, complete with a stocked fridge and dirty dishes that DuckyxDale was all to eager to clean. And of course in the kitchen is the door. The infamous season 1 cliffhanger door. The time when it opened, it wasn’t Logan, but Rob Thomas.
Now about that cliffhanger. I asked Rob if he knew who was going to be behind the door while first writing the scene. He said he didn’t, and since Teddy & Jason were about the same height, he just asked Kristen Bell to fake it. I also asked him about the radio alarm clock behind Veronica in that scene. Many had speculated that the 3:07 was a big clue that it was Logan at the door (3:07 upside down looks like “LOE”…LOgan Echolls). Rob said that in fact it was not a clue, and he was surprised by how quickly that theory took hold. He later commented that he is often surprised at some of the theories that Veronica Mars fans come up with during the season. Yeah, we sometimes like to overanalyze the show just a teensy bit.
With Rob in tow, we headed over to the Sheriff’s office, which sometimes seems like home away from home for our little Roni. Sadly Sheriff Lamb wasn’t there, but we did get to peruse some of the top secret police files. Did you know that with all the crime in Neptune, Lamb still has time to hunt for Osama? He is talented that guy.
After spending a bit more time over at Java the Hut, with Rob leading the way, we headed over to the Neptune Grand to visit Duncan…now Logan’s, apartment. I half expected Kendall Casablancas (Charisma Carpenter) to come sauntering out of the shower, but much to the dismay of most of my male readers, she didn’t. However, the shower will play an important role in an upcoming episode, although Rob did say it wasnt’t really about who was in the shower(which I took to mean that Logan & Veronica aren’t getting it on in the shower anytime soon so don’t get your hopes up). We spent a good amount of time here, and Rob let us in on a few tidbits about this season and next. Be patient…you’ll hear about it…soon enough.
It was time to see the daylight again. Rob led us on a walking tour of some of the outside sets, which included a pass by the oh-so-important Bus of Doom (moment of silence, please), Veronica’s car, & a few PCHers bikes. We also got to see the new hangout for the PCHers. Remember that old lot with the big crane…you know, where Thumper thumped Weevil. Well that’s the PCHer “spot”. It’s actually huge and right on the lot. Seems that Stu Segall of Stu Segall Productions, had his hands in many a project over the years. He accumulated all kinds of interesting sets and props, including this little big ‘ol abandoned lot complete with chemical drums and a crane – oh how the rich spend their money.
Next it was lunch time. It was my very crafts services experience and I have to say it was delish. I was lucky enough to sit right across form Rob during lunch. He continued to answer our questions and share stories through the meal. It was during this time we got a visit from Percy Daggs III (Wallace). I love Wallace and I was so happy we got a short time to meet him. He was with him mom (who was a riot) and his sister who was simply gorgeous. Rob whisked him away at one point to have a “secret meeting”. My lip reading skills aren’t what they used to be. I couldn’t figure out if he was spilling the beans on the bus crash or not. Guess we’ll never know.
We hit a spot of rain at the tail end of our meal, so we headed under the tent for a little while. Rob gave us the background on “the shocker” (which I will spill at a later time), as well as a little hint about some sensor-testing scenes that will be coming up in future episodes. Speaking of future eps, Rob said that episodes 16-18 are especially good, and he seemed really excited about them. I can’t wait!!!
After the rain subsided we were off to the wardrobe trailer. Inside this trailer were all the clothes for all the characters, recurring and otherwise. Veronica Mars gets a lot of her clothes at the Gap. She’s so one of us. Sal, the wardrobe guy was very cool. He showed us a shirt that for some reason or another kept coming up in conversation throughout the day. The shirt said “I Love Dick”. A little background here. In a future ep, a girl was slated to where this shirt…you know, to show her admiration for Dick Casablancas. But the network censors weren’t having it. As Rob explained, the girl could say “I love Dick”, but she couldn’t wear a shirt that said that. So they had to alter the shirt a bit to say “I love Dick Casablancas”. Oh those crazy censor people!! (Thanks to DuckyxDale for the shot of the shirt).
It was about this time that we had to say goodbye to Rob. I’m not sure any you of will understand how unbelievably cool it was to have a personal tour of the set with the creator of the show. Rob spent over two hours with us during the afternoon, showing us the sets, giving us little inside stories and spilling some secrets. He seemed truly excited to have us there, which made us all feel very welcome. Our time with Rob was amazing, and I can’t thank him enough for his time.
Ok, so I will say that with Rob’s departure, I knew we were closing in on the end of our day. I was a little flustered that we had yet to see Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls). One of the first things I noticed when we arrived on set was that Jason’s call time was 3pm. We were scheduled to leave the set at 2:30, so I had been hoping against hopes that we would have the chance to run into him before our day ended. Actually during lunch I nearly broke my neck from turning around so much to see if he was on the lot. But as our time was coming to a close it just didn’t seem to be in the cards to meet Logan Echolls.
One of our last stops of the day was to the makeup trailer. It was one of the coolest places as it was completely decorated with candid shots of the cast fooling around and laughing. It was really fun to see everyone so out of character. With nine of us, plus two makeup artists and a hairdresser, it was getting a little hot inside that trailer. Little did I know how hot it was going to be outside of the trailer.
As it happened, I was the first one to exit, and as I reached the door my eyes saw such a pretty sight. Jason Dohring was standing there smiling and looking all kinds of adorable. I was a little taken a back as he extended his hand, and took mine to escort me down the trailer steps. What a gentleman. Since we had learned our lesson with Kristen Bell, we immediately jumped at the chance to take pics with him. Jason is very different from Logan. Much more reserved and a little more humble than the brash Mr. Echolls. He was sweet enough to answer a bunch of our questions, although I am sure he had other places he needed to be. He talked about what a great thrill it was to work opposite an actress like Kristen Bell, and how he’s that much better an actor when he’s in a scene with her. He answered a few more questions, some of which happen to overlap with the interview questions Give Me My Remote sent him, so I’m going to hold off on spilling too much here.
Oh about the interview, as we were all walking back to the cars, I held back and thanked Jason for taking the time to answer the questions from the GMMR readers. He said he was excited about it, and thanked you all for supporting the show. What a sweetheart!!!
So after this long and unforgettable day, we piled back into the cars and headed back to the hotel before leaving for our looooooong journey home.
It was really a wonderful experience, and I’m so thankful to those who made it possible – UPN, Warner Bros, mPRm, and again thanks to Sienna, Chelsea and Holly for making this happen. Thank you all so much. And another special thanks goes out to all those at Veronica Mars who made us feel so at home in Neptune, CA, including Rob Thomas, Kristen Bell, Ryan Hansen, Kyle Gallner, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Dan Etheridge, and everyone else we met that day.
And to my new blogger friends…I’ll see you back in Neptune next year!!! Reunited and it feels so good!!!!
Ok one last goody. Rob Thomas shared many anecdotes about past and future episodes throughout the day. Really great stuff for any Veronica Mars lover. Rather than spill it all to you right now, I’m going to be posting a new Rob Thomas treat every Wednesday. Hopefully it will be something you can look forward to before Veronica Mars airs later that night. It’ll be fun for me too – I can relive my awesome day on the set of Veronica Mars over and over again every week. Oh yeah, and I have a TON more pics that I’ll be sharing with you all over the next few weeks.

Veronica Mars Recap & Spoilers: Look Who’s Stalking
April 25, 2006 by Kath Skerry

The Veronica Mars writers really know how to turn it up near the end. We’ve got only a few episodes left, and I’m more hooked than ever. Tonight’s “Look Who’s Stalking” is right up there with the “Plan B” episode from a few weeks back, as one the best shows of the season, nay, the series.
We open on our heorine to find her, of all places, in a Dr’s office. Looks like Veronica has been hanging out with George O’Malley and the staff of Seattle Grace Hospital these days, because she seems to have contracted chlamydia. Veornica you dirrty girl. She is perplexed by this news. Who did Duncan get chlamydia from? Looks like Meg Manning was a teenager mother and kind of loose. Unless of course, Duncan had been with someone else besides Meg and Veronica? I’d suggest calling him, but he’s on the run from federal kidnapping charges, so you might not want to bother him. Take a few penicillin and you’ll be fine.
As the kinds wander through the halls of Neptune High, we come across one of those really dumb Veronica Mars moments, where a plot point is so obvioulsy forced, it hurts. This time we have Van Clemmons canceling the prom due to alcohol violations.
Woody has been working out, and seems to be strong enough to have killed some chick who is now lying in his bed at the Camelot. Ok, she’s not dead, but she’s passed out. Woody calls Keith to assist, and Keith agrees to take the chic to the hospital. Uh, dumb move Mr. Mars.
Looks like Woody’s daughter is having issues too. She is being stalked, and like her dad, she also goes to a Mars for help. But Gia goes to the cute little blond one.
Back at Mars Investigations, Kendall Casablancas is asking for her stolen hardrive. This leads to the funniest exchange of the night.
Kendall: Your dad and I were just dealing with a little trouble
Veronica: Like trouble, with a capital “T” that rhymes with “C” that stands for…
Keith: Veronica!
Veronica: I was going to say cute
A bit later, Keith has asked Veronica to help circulate a sketch of the dude that hired the escort who stole Cliff’s briefcase a few weeks back. His sweet and sassy daughter obliges.
Back in Veornica’s room, Gia is awed by Roni’s PI talents and her gadgets. Can we just take a minute to imagine an Alias/Veronica Mars crossover? The fun that Veronica would have with Marshall’s gadget. That sounded dirtier than ti should have. Sorry. Veronica Mars is on her game tonight with her witty repartee.
Gia: How mission impossible. I feel like any moment Tom Cruise is going to dangle from the ceiling on cables
Veronica: Great. Now I won’t be able to sleep. I hope he doesn’t truy to marry me.
