Last Friday, the VERONICA MARS movie was released and fans finally had the chance to see what their waiting — and Kickstarting the project — had led to.
Before last week’s PaleyFest panel, I talked with VERONICA MARS stars Enrico Colantoni (Keith), Jason Dohring (Logan), Francis Capra (Weevil), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), Chris Lowell (Piz), Tina Majorino (Mac), and Ryan Hansen (Dick) about what they wanted to say to fans — who made the film possible — after they saw it…

VERONICA MARS has been off television screens for nearly seven years, but starting today, the Kickstarter-funded movie is available for fans to download and stream online, or see in select theaters. (Or if you contributed to the Kickstarter campaign, many of the reward tiers included a free online download of the film.)
To celebrate the occasion, the series/franchise was honored on Thursday night in Hollywood by the Paley Center as it kicked off the 2014 PaleyFest. Before the panel, I talked with VERONICA MARS stars Enrico Colantoni (Keith), Jason Dohring (Logan), Francis Capra (Weevil), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), Chris Lowell (Piz), Tina Majorino (Mac), and Ryan Hansen (Dick) about where there characters are in the movie, playing the characters again after so many years, the experience of making a fan-funded film, and more…

From Oscar and Emmy winner Brian Grazer (“A Beautiful Mind,” “Arrested Development”), “Friends With Benefits” is a half-hour comedy revolving around a group of twenty-something singles as they navigate the difficult, and often confusing, world of dating. Ben Weymouth (Ryan Hansen, “Party Down”) is on the hunt for the perfect woman who meets his unique set of standards, while his best friend, Sara Maxwell (Danneel Harris, “One Tree Hill”), is just looking for a man to settle down with and raise a family. Ben and Sara have fallen into the habit of turning to each other for moral and physical support as they wait for Mr. and Ms. Right to arrive. Their friend Aaron, a romantic at heart, doesn’t approve of Ben and Sara’s complicated friendship, but he, along with womanizer Hoon (Ian Reed Kesler) and straight shooter Riley (Jessica Lucas, “Cloverfield”), are all distracted with their own dating trials and tribulations.
Jason Dohring on PARTY DOWN – Watch!

Crazy love going to WWK for sharing these clips of Jason Dohring’s upcoming guest appearance on PARTY DOWN (Fridays @ 10:30pm on Starz). In case anyone’s asking, I’m all for having Jason Dohring on my TV every week. Soon enough…soon enough.
As we’ve talked about, PARTY DOWN is the playground for ex-VERONICA MARSers, and it nice to see at least three VM alums in the following clips. Did you spy all three Neptunites? There was Adam Scott, Jason Dohring and….Alona Tal. Here’s to hoping Jason and Alona shares a scene with Ryan Hansen. I’d love to see Logan, Meg and Dick reunited once more.
Hey Starz people…please please please keep sending press screeners. I don’t have Starz and my cable bill is already astronomically high. Can’t afford another station. Yes, this is me begging.
P.S. Is it me or does Jason look a lot like UGLY BETTY’s Daniel Meade?
Get Ready to Party Down with PARTY DOWN

Oh no…..
This day got completely away from me. Here it is quitting time and I totes forgot to remind you to check out PARTY DOWN tonight on Starz. Don’t have Starz? Well it’s a free weekend so most likely you do.
I’m a big fan of this show and not only because it was created by VERONICA MARS creator Rob Thomas or because it has so many Veronica Mars cameos that you’ll think you’ve been sent back to Neptune. Or because it’s co-written by the utterly fabulous Paul Rudd. Nope, it’s just a damn funny show.
PARTY DOWN is a one camera comedy centered around wannabe actors who are working for a catering company as they await their big break. Ken Marino plays the head honcho in charge whose life seems to revolved around catering the perfect party. His minions just care about getting paid.
I’ve seen the first few episodes, and while I wasn’t hit over the head with the funny at first, by the end of third episode I was madly in love. And believe me it had nothing to do with the full frontal of Enrico Colantoni. Oh yes, Papa Mars in all his glory. I’m telling you know because I wish someone had prepared me.
Look for more MARS friends to be partying down throughout the season include Ms. Mars herself, Kristen Bell and her one true love – Logan Echolls…um, I mean Jason Dohring. Sadly I don’t think we’ll see the two of them in the same episode, but with Ryan Hansen (who played Dick Casablancas) as a permanent cast member, I’m sure will be thinking fondly back on yesteryear.
And I suppose it’s worth saying that you can completely enjoy the show even if you’ve never seen Veronica Mars. I promise. I’m just getting caught up in nostalgia.
Check out a few clips. Come back tomorrow and tell me what you thought.
Kyle discusses the perks of the job with Henry. Find out what these are when Party Down premieres on Starz, Friday March 20th at 10:30p (E/P).
Josh Schwartz’s ROCKVILLE, CA Premieres Today on TheWB.com
March 17, 2009 by Kath Skerry

ROCKVILLE, CA premieres today at 9am est on www.TheWB.com. The new web series, from creator Josh Schwartz, centers around the music club, Rockville – think The O.C.’s Baitshop without the hot lesbian bartender – and those who frequent the hipster joint.
Each self-contained episode features a new band on the verge, hand picked by executive producer Alexandrea Patsavas. Whether you know it or not, Patsavas has been influencing our ears for quite some time now as music supervisor on shows such as THE OC, GREY’S ANATOMY, PRIVATE PRACTICE, GOSSIP GIRL, CHUCK, MAD MEN and more. Her influence, which has always been in the background of a scene, is at the forefront of this series. If anything, I’d say it’s the characters that play second to the music, at least in the first six episodes.
ROCKVILLE, CA is offered in digestible four to six minute mini-bites. Perfect for our Twitter obsessed minds. Given the length of the installments there isn’t a lot of room for deep character development which is good because I’m not sure all of the actors are up for more than they’ve been given. Some of the actors seem to be trying just a bit too hard and there’s a certain lack of subtly to their performances. Ryan Hansen, who plays Chambers, is the biggest offender. It was borderline painful to see his overly broad portrayal of The Douche. It was especially tough as Hansen was one of the reasons I was most excited about this project when I first heard about it. But maybe I’m juding too harshly. The webisodic nature doesn’t really allow these actors to live with the characters for too long so maybe they just hadn’t found their groove yet. They have 20 episodes to work it out, so I guess we’ll see soon enough.
So who just are these cool cats who hang out at a club in the middle of the day? In the first six episodes we meet…
Kristen Bell: From PI to Hero

The following contains spoilers pertaining to Kristen Bell’s new character on HEROES (but no other plot spoilers). Read at your own risk.
I don’t know about you, but I am more than a little excited about Kristen Bell’s HEROES debut next Monday. If you aren’t familiar with Bell from her days as the title character on VERONICA MARS then you are in for quite a treat. Kristen Bell is a special actress that has so much charisma and natural talent that she’s going to have you wrapped around her little finger in no time.
Yesterday I had the distinct pleasure to join reporters from all over the globe in a call with Kristen, and HEROES creator Tim Kring during which we discussed Kristen’s role on the hit NBC show – how she came to join the cast, a little more about her character, and just how being a hero is different than a PI. Continue on to see a sneak peek of Kristen’s HEROES debut!!
Just Another Hero…
For Kristen Bell, joining the cast of HEROES was a no brainer since she’s been a fan of the show since the premiere. It seems that Heroes was quite the watercooler conversation during her days on Veronica Mars, and our favorite heroes were also fans of the pesky PI from Neptune, CA. Having heard what a great show Heroes was to work on from long time friends Zachary Quinto (Sylar) and Hayden Pannetierre (Clarie), Bell put out feelers during last year’s Comic Con – just letting the powers that be know that she was interested…you know, in case they were wondering.
Creator Tim Kring, who was already a fan of Kristen’s work thought she would be a great fit for a character they created named Elle. But according to Kring the character has evolved from what was initially on paper, “When you cast an actor as talented as Kristen Bell then there’s a lot more that the actor can bring to the character.” But enough of the mutual admiration society over there, let’s talk about Elle. What do we know about this mystery woman? Very little. To date, most of the details have been kept under wraps, but here’s what we do know.
Just Who is Elle?
We’re going to have to wait until next week (and probably longer than that) to get the goods on Elle, but Bell and Kring let us in a little on her character saying that she’s unlike most of the heroes we’ve seen to date as she really loves and has embraced her power. Elle was raised by The Company and serves as a cautionary tale of what can happen when someone is fully aware of all her power her whole life and doesn’t just discover it on her own. As for what her power is, Bell and Kring wouldn’t confirm (although there’s been rampant speculation that Elle’s power is somehow related to electricity), but they did say that Elle is “a little messed up in the head” and has “very few boundaries”. Added Bell, [Elle] “doesn’t have the ability to decipher right from wrong” and her intense personality lends itself to Elle’s moral ambiguity. Elle is strong in her convictions and her actions and whatever she is doing she wholeheartedly thinks she’s doing the right thing. Whether she’s a hero or a villain might not be obvious at first…but is it ever?
