OPRAH’S LIFECLASS Season Premiere with Iyanla Vanzant – LIVE Blog, LIVE Show on OWN
March 26, 2012 by Kath Skerry
It’s been quite the day for us here at GIVE ME MY REMOTE as we continue our day as part of Oprah’s Blogger team for her new show, OPRAH’S LIFECLASS: THE TOUR. I just got settled in the audience for the LIVE season premiere of OPRAH’S LIFECLASS and in just under a half hour Oprah will be taking the stage with tonight’s lifeclass teacher, Iyanla Vanzant. Together the two women, along with participation from the audience here in St. Louis and those watching around the world will inspire viewers to stop the pain in their lives and create the loving relationships they deserve.
I’ll be live blogging highlights of the show (and what it’s like to be here in the audience) on GIVE ME MY REMOTE and posting pics and updates over at @GMMRtv. But the show is airing LIVE tonight at 8/7c on OWN and on Facebook.com/Oprah so you can watch the show along with me.
I hope you’ll tune in to OWN and join me in the conversation about tonight’s show in the broadcast.
8:05pm: Oprah just took to the stage, beautiful in yellow. She’s talking to the audience about the inspiration and vision for the OWN Network. This audience is pumped!
8:10pm: It’s the first commercial break. If you are watching online then you can hang out with all of us during the commercial break. Right now Oprah’s team is changing her shoes…they are just for show. We are getting ready to go back LIVE on OWN, so Oprah just warned the audience to not say “Shit” or any other curse words..even though the show is on cable.
8:15pm: The family behind OWN’s new show, ‘Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s’ is in the audience. Oprah did a surprise visit to their restaurant yesterday. No one knew she was coming and there was still a two hour waiting line when she got there. Wish I was sticking around St. Louis long enough to give that comfort food a try.
8:25pm: Iyanla has joined Oprah. Our first lesson of tonight…”horniness is pain”. This is what I might choose to take away from tonight.
8:27pm: I’m sitting here hoping my battery lasts in order to continue live blogging. It’s not looking good my friends. I think a new MacBook Pro is going on my Vision Board (things I’ve learned from Oprah)
8:45pm: Well there goes the battery. Updating from my iPhone. Painful.
8:50pm: “When you sacrifice yourself from other people you are making them a thief. They are take from you what you need and they don’t even know it.” Iyanla, love this thought!
8:50pm. Steve, a recovering addict talks about his pain now that he’s sober. Iyanla just asked everyone in the audience touched by addiction to stand in support. Powerful moment that hopefully made Steve feel less alone. During this commercial break the audience is chanting his name.
9:00pm: ‘Standing with Steve’ is trending on Twitter. That’s awesome. [Update: Later that night, back in the hotel lobby, Steve was greeted by applause and words of encouragement from almost everyone that walked by him.]
9:05pm: Iyanla tells Steve that he is addicted to his story. Who would he be without his story. Powerful ‘a ha’ moment.
9:10pm: If you are watching at home, I hope that what Iyanla is doing with Steve is resonating. Powerful moment. Well, Kath is crying watching an Oprah show…somethings never change. When they cut to commercial break it continued on. Lots of affirmations and tears from even the most cynical of us in the room.
9:20pm: Skype users join in on the discussion. Great moment when an enthusiastic Skype user doesn’t realize that the audio is out. After Steve…we here in the room needed to laugh.
Well, my apologies for the very abrupt ending, but it seems my MacBook Pro battery decided it had enough. But the rest of the show was amazing as those of you watching at home on OWN or online witnessed.
Next Monday’s Lifeclass (8/7c on OWN and on Facebook) features speaker Tony Robbins. I’ll be tuning in…for sure. I hope you will.
Check back soon to GMMR for more on my experience including a ton of pics and what it was like to sit down and talk with Oprah herself!

Nice recap! Thanks for sharing your first hand perspective. I was watching & found you via Sheri Salata’s twitter stream. I love how they both got real raw but yet they kept it real. (Horniness is SO pain). I, too was a mess when Steve was up there feeling all those feelings. Loved when Oprah belted out a “Halleluyerrr.” Excited for more learnin’.
