Since the beginning of its run, SUPERSTORE has been compared to THE OFFICE. In many ways, it makes sense: Both comedies dealt with everyday life at average companies; SUPERSTORE creator Justin Spitzer worked on THE OFFICE for much of its run; both shows are wickedly funny. Now, SUPERSTORE finds itself in the same position as THE OFFICE—losing its lead before the series ends.

America Ferrera steps behind the camera (again) for the first SUPERSTORE episode airing on Thursday, May 16 (at 8/7c; the season 4 finale airs at 8:30/7:30), and it is a little extra special for the actress-director: her former on-screen sisters guest star.
Ana Ortiz, who co-starred with Ferrera on UGLY BETTY, plays Claudia in “Sandra’s Fight,” a Cloud 9 higher up who has a big role in Store #1217’s future. MADTV’s Anjelah Johnson, who co-starred in the 2010 film OUR FAMILY WEDDING with Ferrera, guest stars as Robin, a labor organizer who talks with the employees about potentially unionizing.
“It was just so much fun to invite my sisters to come and play,” Ferrera shared, in the video below, before SUPERSTORE’s recent Paley Center panel. “They were brilliant and easy…we laughed and had so much fun.”

SUPERSTORE ends its fourth season on Thursday, May 16 with a powerful two-episode block.
In the first episode, “Sandra’s Fight,” the employees debate unionizing. In the second, the comedy delivers another huge season closer.
“I had pretty much decided at the beginning of the season that we had done big, crazy climactic finales every year now, and why do we do that?” executive producer Justin Spitzer previously teased. “We write ourselves into a corner, [so I thought] we’re not going to do that this year. And then we got to there and we decided to do it again. [There is] some crazy stuff happening that will shock a lot of people.”
So what the heck is happening? Before the show’s recent Paley Center panel, series stars America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, and Mark McKinney give their best teases… Read more

As SUPERSTORE’s fourth season winds down, new Cloud 9 manager Amy (America Ferrera) finds herself backed into a corner when she’s forced to cut her employees’ hours.
“She’s in a very different position now,” Ferrera shared (in the video below) prior to the show’s Paley Center panel. “She’s expected to play on corporate’s team a little bit. But also, she has more to lose. She’s now a manager with a great salary. She’s coming up in her life and her career and it feels good. All of a sudden, the stakes are higher for her. And also the responsibility to keep things afloat for everybody…a big gist of the last couple of episodes will be her navigating those sort of split loyalties.”

SUPERSTORE: Justin Spitzer on the Amy-Jonah Kiss Fallout, Mateo’s Revealed Secret, and More

Comments Off on SUPERSTORE: Justin Spitzer on the Amy-Jonah Kiss Fallout, Mateo’s Revealed Secret, and More
SUPERSTORE, one of the best comedies currently on television, threw grenades into multiple relationships in last week’s episode.
In “Safety Training,” Amy’s (America Ferrera) attempt to befriend Kelly (Kelly Stables)—AKA Jonah’s (Ben Feldman) new girlfriend—backfired when she took credit for Kelly improperly hanging signs and was forced into safety training. To get Amy out of it, Dina (Lauren Ash) planned on playing footage of Kelly’s work mistake…and instead played a mishmash of footage which included Amy and Jonah’s kiss during last season’s tornado.
Meanwhile, Mateo (Nico Santos) was injured by a falling sign, which helped out. After he kept turning down corporate’s offer for injury compensation, finally Jeff (Michael Bunin), his ex/the store’s distract manager, insisted on giving him money. But Mateo finally admitted he was undocumented and his inability to share that with Jeff was the real reason they broke up.
So where does the show go next? SUPERSTORE creator Justin Spitzer shared a few teases about what’s in store. Read more
